Judge Dredd
Released in VHS Tape by Buena Vista Home Vid (05 June, 1996)
MPAA Rating: R (Restricted)
Director: Danny Cannon
Starring: Sylvester Stallone, Armand Assante, Rob Schneider, Max von Sydow, and Jürgen Prochnow
Average review score:

A farcical adaptation of a great character
Judge Dredd is one of the all time classic comic-strips from 2000AD. The strip has moral ambiguity and a brutal view of the future, where the Law has to be instant and vicious. The Judges ARE the Law, there is no appeal or higher authority. Instead of pursuing this, the film ignores the whole point of bothering with the adaptation and turns it into a generic cop flick. Stallone removes his helmet, giving Dredd a character and personality(just), where Dredd should be faceless and emotionless. He has a 'romance', strictly forbidden for judges. Worst of all he shows mercy and compassion for those who break the law. The idea of Dredd disabling someone who shoots at him is absurd, or as Dredd would say,"The sentence is death." There would be no question of Dredd's integrity because there would be no evidence of him DOING anything else except Judging. What could have been a bleak, shocking, morally interesting action film has been turned into a vehicle for Stallone's posturing and 'Star Power'.

Good...until the plot kicks in.
The first part (a.k.a. the first 15 minutes) are pretty cool, with Sly as some sort of human version of Robocop. But then the plot kicks in and he loses the flashy armor and weapons and such and it turns quickly into a Total Recall rip-off...except he's got a dopey side-kick. Art direction is nice, but they could do better than the bargain-basement CGI they popped for. Sly and Judge Dredd deserve better than this.

Good ole Fun Action Film
Woah! A good STALLONE FILM! I HAVEN'T SEEN ONE SINCE ANTS! This film is a true classic! Sure you see his face, but doesn't that make him more human. The film doesn't need a good story, cause the action is all fun. I wish more films could be like this, great action, and a story to match.

I want the two hours I wasted on this back
My first impression of Habitat was that this was gonna be a really underrated and overlooked sci-fi gem, but the end results are one of the worst movies I have ever seen. The storyline is intriguing and interesting, but the screenplay and direction are overly sloppy, not to mention that Balthazar Getty and Tcheky Karyo are wasted in their roles, if they're acting talents were better used, this movie might have been not so bad. One good quality though, there is some nice T&A, and I never realized how hot Alice Krige was until I saw this, but other than that this movie is a waste.

Redeemed only by the nudity
Yup, Alice Krige and Laura Harris showing their gorgeous bods is the "best" thing about this film.
There's really not a whole lot to say about a film that seems like it was probably originally an exciting-sounding concept to its creators, but ended up being somewhat....blah. I'm not sure how they could have pulled off a film in which a family's house turns into a living jungle, and the Dad turns into some sort of weird creature which can break down into little green molecules and fly around because of his science experiments. The neighbors who dislike them get killed trying to put a stop to the house's growth. Okay. BUT...
Laura goes for a nice skinny-dip, which makes this essential viewing for any Celeb skin collector.

For Sci Fi Lovers Only
Yep! It's me again. You must think all I do is sit around and watch movies. You're right. In a stressful job this is the best therapy. At work I earn every penny of my salary. At play (home) I indulge in my love for film.

So what did I think of the Science Fiction thriller "Habitat"? It's definitely for Sci Fi folks...only. It is a bizzarre tale of what happens when the ozone layer is destroyed and mankind must shield itself from the microwave effect of sunlight.

So why is it called "Habitat"? An obsessed scientist and his beautiful and sexy wife, create their own environment inside the confines of their home...a vegetation filled fantasyland of plants and flowers that literally ooze with life.

This one plays out like an expanded episode of "The Outer Limits"...but it is definitely "R" rated for the seductive passions of mom and girlfriend. Quite bizzarre. A definite 8 on my 10-scale for Sci Fi. Many people did not like this flick. I was intrigued and thoroughly entertained. A great Friday Night flick...in early November...alone in my own HABITAT. Paul

Not very intriguing
I like the way it gives you a twist when you actually think that there is someone real that is stalking her but a lot of scenes were cut out and that is what makes the movie a burial into the moritorium of movies. Other than that if I could just get my hands on an original uncut version that woud be fine too.Thank's..

Not Uncut
I bought this movie because of a still of the movie that I downloaded recently of Heather Graham sitting on the face of some guy. But when I watched this dvd I noticed to my horror that this particular scene had been edited out. I find this strange as the dvd is R rated.
A complete waste of my money and there's nothing I can do about it.

Random but cool
The movie was at the same time extremely scary but hysterically funny. The neurotic sensibility in Graham's performance is similar to Mia farrow in Rosemary's baby. It left a really deep impression on me since the whole film was so roughly presented and sharply scary. The film is so sharp and rough it even transcends into something really justifiable. Looking back on it I really loved it and how it could scare me like no other film (not anne rice, not from dusk till dawn, not even the baby of Rosemary.)

Hard Cash
Released in VHS Tape by Artisan (Fox Video) (22 October, 2002)
MPAA Rating: R (Restricted)
Director: Predrag Antonijevic
Average review score:

Slater and Kilmer keep this puppy alive
starts off good with Slater, Troyer, and two others including his girlfriend try to rob William Forsythes place but it ends up with Slater going into the slammer but then he comes back some months or years later and pulls off a heist that involves Bookem Woodbine, Balthazat Getty, Matthew Schulze and Daryl Hannah, but the problem is that Val Kilmer, a corrupt cop was going to do the heist. all im saying is that Slater and Kilmer do a great cat and mouse game but they should'nt of been in this mess. with wooden characters, but sometimes good action, specifically when the team turns on one another and kills each other over the money. could've been better with different leads

Half-Baked
Christian Slater reunited with Val Kilmer reminds us of the high tension action flick "True Romance." But no more is seen the burning power generated by the Tarantino-scripted film; instead, in "Hard Cash" you only see a banal B-action flick with wasted opportunities for any of those involved.

The story is rather simple: master thief Slater and his cohorts attempt to do their final job as Kubrick's "The Killing," but realize that the money they get are all marked by FBI. They have to wait another day for money laundering, but while waiting, crooked agent Val Kilmer steps in, to extort money from them.

As the mildly interesting opening of the film shows, "Hard Cash" has slightly comical flavor, not taking itself so seriously. OK, but with what little humor in there soon gone away, the film goes on and on without much to boast of. Though the heist scenes are shot competently, the suspense comes very few between the acts, so even its 90 minutes running time looks very tedious. And obligatory explosions and car chase are, to be honest, very cheap.

The leading players, including Slater, Kilmer, and Daryl Hannah might not impress you, but the supporting cast are interesting -- see, for example, Balthazar Getty ("Lost Highway"), Bokeem Woodbine ("3000 Miles to Graceland"), Sara Downing (TV's "Roswell"), William Forsythe ("The Rock"), and Verne Troyer (Mini-Me of "Austin Powers" sequels). But they have no moment to really show something they can, possibly except for Troyer's "contigency plan" and even he, or always reliable Getty or Forsythe cannot save the show. So, what can you expect from the leads, who plays the characters we don't care much?

Even Kilmer's and Slater's fans would be dismayed with their "acting," because they don't show any. Those who like them should wait for a Lenny Harlin film "Mindhunters" where they are sure to live up with our expectations.

crazy fun
call me crazy. go ahead but i liked it. i thought it was fun action.
