SpongeBob SquarePants - Nautical Nonsense
Released in VHS Tape by Paramount Home Video (12 March, 2002)
MPAA Rating: G (General Audience)
Directors: Walt Dohrn, Sherm Cohen, Jay Lender, Dan Povenmire, Aaron Springer, C.H. Greenblatt, Paul Tibbett, and Sam Henderson
Split pants, bad breath, and time travel are just part of the nonsense the animated sponge and his undersea buddies are up to in this installment of the popular Nickelodeon series. The cheerfully inept SpongeBob splits his pants while hoisting marshmallows in a weightlifting competition, to the amusement of the crowd. So if it's funny once, it must be funny five times, right? Next, Squidward gets trapped in the Krusty Krab freezer and time travels to a future of Spongetrons and back to prehistoric SpongeBob and Patrick--not a pretty sight. There's also a cure for Sandy the squirrel's homesickness for Texas, underwater ghost stories when SpongeBob and Squidward work the night shift, and the sponge's aforementioned sea onion breath in this five-episode compilation. Don't look for any double-entendres to amuse the parents here; this 57 minutes of goofing is strictly for kids, ages 4 to 10. --Kimberly Heinrichs

Grandkids love it
My granddaughters think Sponge Bob is the best. This video has a few different cartoons on it. They watch it every day.

The Best of Spongebob
I LOVE this video. It's as if Nickelodeon tapped into my thoughts and put all my favorite episodes, and one of my new favorites, on video...wait, they did! (Except for that whole mind-tapping thing...)
RIPPED PANTS- Another trademark Spongebob episode, with another catchy, wonderful song in it...
SB-129- An enjoyable, hilarious episode that shows the imagination of the writers.
TEXAS- Another episode with a tune, this one's for the Texans! Be sure to listen to Spongebob and Patrick's impressions of the great state, it's hilarious.
THE GRAVEYARD SHIFT- This episode, never-before-seen till the video, is by far the funniest episode of Spongebob I've ever seen...or one of the most. The ending of this "creepy" episode is hysterical...for those young at heart, at least.
SOMETHING SMELLS- For those who ever forgot a Tic-Tac.
Though it looks juvinille, this video is more than just the potty humor of Saturday Morning...it's hilarious.

CUTE AND FUNNY
MYY KIDS ARE BIG FANS OF SPONGEBOB. HE IS SO CUTE AND FUNNY. I PURCHASED THIS ONE, THEY LOVE IT.

SpongeBob SquarePants - Sea Stories
Released in VHS Tape by Paramount Home Video (05 November, 2002)
MPAA Rating: G (General Audience)
Directors: Walt Dohrn, Sherm Cohen, Jay Lender, Dan Povenmire, Aaron Springer, C.H. Greenblatt, Paul Tibbett, and Sam Henderson
Nickelodeon's SpongeBob SquarePants has become so popular, it must be considered a phenomenon. The series has a pleasant, predictable, and slightly offbeat humor, and these mini-adventures give viewers what they expect. SpongeBob has to deal with a ghostly pirate, his own insecurities when his skill as a preparer of krabby patties is challenged, and the dangerous pleasures of fisherman's hooks. The voice acting is often amateurish and imitative. Patrick suggests a Homer Simpson-wannabe, while Bubble Bass sounds like the Comic Book Guy. The humor can become gross. In episode No. 2, SpongeBob absorbs a bathtub full of water, then vomits it at Gary, the snail who acts as his dog. But it seems pointless to grumble about these weaknesses. SpongeBob SquarePants has clearly won a place in the hearts of American viewers. (Suitable for ages 8 and older: cartoon violence, minor gross-out humor) --Charles Solomon

The "Hooky" episode which is in this DVD could be edited
Well, I noticed that after SpongeBob and Patrick jump off the hook, there is a clip of two fishermen at the surface-have you noticed that one fisherman had a cigarette in his hand? Could this be edited so that the fisherman has a bubble pipe instead? Not only is a bubble pipe more politically correct, but it would certainly have more connection to a fisherman than cigarettes(many other pictures of fishermen show them with pipes as opposed to cigarettes).

SpongeBob DVD @ it's best!
This outstanding DVD has the best episodes ever! SpongeBob is one of the most popular cartoons ever! This DVD episodes are:

Spongebob Squarepants at his best!
This is the best one out of the 3 Spongebob DVD's. Here are the episodes on this DVD:

-Hooky: When fishing hooks are found in Bikini Bottom, Spongebob and Patrick like to ride them, but Mr. Krabs warns Spongebob and Patrick that they are dangerous, and can bring them to the land above!

-No Free Rides: When Spongebob yet again fails his boating test, Mrs. Puff gives Spongebob extra credit to get his license, so he can get out of her boating school.

-Sailor Mouth: When Spongebob finds a "bad word" on a dumpster, Patrick says it is a sentence enhancer. They use it often, shocking Squidward, Mr. Krabs, and Krusty Krab customers!

-Life of Crime: Mr. Krabs is found stealing many items from his friends, and Spongebob and Patrick learn that "borrowing" an item is okay as long as it is given back before it's missed. Patrick wants to buy a balloon, but he can't afford it. They decide to borrow the balloon, and they pop it. They can't return it now, so they run away from Bikini Bottom thinking they're criminals.

No Weenies Allowed: When Spongebob tries to get into the Salty Spitoon, the toughest club in Bikini Bottom, he is denied access because he is considered a weenie. Spongebob will do anything to get in this club, even beat up Patrick!

-Pickles: When Bubble Bass comes to the Krusty Krab, he claims that Spongebob forgot to put in pickles in his Krabby Patty. That makes him forget how to make Krabby Patties, and how to just about anything. Mr. Krabs will go to lengths to get his money maker back to the grill!

-Jellyfish Jam: When Spongebob befriends a rare jellyfish, Spongebob brings it home. The jellyfish becomes addicted to loud, rave music, and calls his jelly friends to take over Spongebob's house to party.

-The Algae's Always Greener: When Plankton is fed up with his failed attempts to take[] a Krabby Patty, he builds a machine to switch lives with people. He switches lives with Mr. Krabs to see what is like to be him.

-Gary Takes a Bath: Spongebob has to do whatever possible to get Gary to take a bath. (Unseen episode, but was aired with Shanghaied on Nicktoons TV!)

-Shanghaied: The ultra-rare, only seen on TV twice! Squidward, Patrick and Spongebob stumble upon the sunken ship of the Flying Dutchman. They are all given 3 wishes when the return an object of his. The DVD will feature all three endings!

More to come on the third Spongebob Squarepants installment.

Calamity Jane
Released in VHS Tape by Warner Studios (01 January, 2000)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Director: David Butler
Starring: Doris Day and Howard Keel
This 1953 musical is very much a vehicle for Doris Day, in the title role, as a wild cowgal who can outshoot and outsing any boy on the range. When an actress arrives in Deadwood and uses her feminine charms on Jane's secret love, Wild Bill Hickock (Howard Keel), Jane tries to mend her tomboy ways. Not exactly up to the feminist code of honor, this is still energetic and Day is very perky. Of course, one could almost detect a homosexual undercurrent with the cross-dressing Jane, but this was Hollywood in the 1950s, so we best not. This won an Oscar for Best Song--"Secret Love," by Sammy Fain and Paul Francis Webster. --Rochelle O'Gorman

Doris Day is Calamity Jane! Now on DVD in TECHNICOLOR!!!!
Doris Day one of Hollywoods greatest talents now comes to the DVD TECHNICOLOR screen as Martha Jane Canary, better known as "Calamity Jane". Loosely based on the western heroine's life. Calamity served as an Indian Scout, mail carrier and later as a performer in a Wild West Show demonstrating her fancy shooting. This action packed, toe tapping, knee slapping musical launched Doris Day as a Hollywood Star!!! She is outstanding as this wild tomboyish gun toting character.

Summary: Calamity Jane (Day) & best friend Wild Bill Hickock (Howard Keel) are always competing against each other for the towns best shot and biggest story teller. Both are in love with other interests who are in love. Nothing can change this and Jane's "Secret Love" (Oscar winning song - Day's biggest single hit selling over 1 million copies) is soon realized. The movie is filled with great music and a very predictable happy ending. A 1950's Hollywood stantard.

This OUTSTANDING DVD is presented in Full Standard Screen Format (before WideScreen) in beautiful Digitalized TECHNICOLOR & mono sound track. The Extra features include: Premiere & Awards Newsreels, Producion Notes & Theatrical Trailer.

Doris Day is delightful & very believable as Calamity Jane. This Warner Brothers Musical is a classic & a great family edition to the DVD library. You'll love the music too!! Enjoy.

Calamity Jane
I've always loved Calamity Jane from the age of four! I remember dancing to the brill songs like 'I can do without you,' and 'the black hills' and 'a womans touch' and 'the windy city'. I think Doris Day is a superb actress and she can sing and act beautifullt to portray a very tomboyish Calamity Jane. She is in love with the lieutenant, but he has fallen in love with a woman called Katy who Calamity herself brought to dead wood and shared home with. After an embarrassing confrontation with Katy in the golden garter, Calamity falls for a life long friend - her secret love Bill hickock - who himself fancied Katy. It all ends happily with Katy marrying the lieutenent (I despise him!!!) and Bill marrying calamity. It's a wicked film and the songs are great! I love it and if you ever have a chance to watch it please do because it gets me hooked everytime even though I have probably watched it about 1000 times!

i always love this film!! its a musical; need i say more? =)
Calamity Jane is one of my all-time favorite musicals. It's starring Doris Day who plays a tomboy with a crush on a civil war general...she is transformed into a bell by a starry-eyed maid from "Chicagey". i really dont feel like getting into the plot, but its a really great film, if u love musicals...and if u love old classics...hmm...even if u didnt, ud probably like this one...

Ed Wood
Released in VHS Tape by Disney Studios (13 August, 2002)
MPAA Rating: R (Restricted)
Director: Tim Burton
Starring: Johnny Depp and Martin Landau
Edward D. Wood Jr. was an actor writer-director-producer, occasionally in drag, who combined meager bursts of talent with an undying optimism to create some of the most bizarrely memorable "B" movies to ever come out of Tinseltown. Though Wood died in obscurity as an alcoholic in 1978, his films have been considered cult classics for years. He is consistently voted the worst director who ever lived. You would think this an odd subject, but director Tim Burton harnesses the undying hopefulness that made Wood such a character. Shot in black and white, just like Wood's creations, this stylized, witty production captures the poetic absurdity of Wood's films and his unconventional life. Burton's recreation of Wood's wonderfully awful Plan 9 from Outer Space looks much better than the original low-budget quickie. Burton tackled an extremely strange subject matter for a biopic, but Wood is presented as naive almost to the point of delusion, so the story works. The pace sags in the middle, as the weirdness starts to wear thin, but Depp proves himself an adroit actor, even while wearing angora and a blonde wig. Wood's unconventional repertoire company is faithfully reproduced, including an Academy Award-winning Martin Landau as Bela Lugosi. Landau is pathetic, droll, and charismatic as the elderly junkie who made his last screen appearances in Wood's films. --Rochelle O'Gorman
Average review score:

Burton excels again
What better man to tackle a biopic of the legendary worst director of all time Ed Wood than Tim Burton? Master of the weird and wonderful (see Edward Scissorhands and Beetlejuice) Burton shows a remarkable amount of compassion, relating Burton's career up to the premiere of his fabled worst movie, Plan 9 From Outer Space. Tracking through his relationships with his girlfriends and aging actor Bela Lugosi, there are equal parts sympathy and wonder at Wood's bizarre life, films and the band of misfits that surround him.

Johnny Depp is obviously at ease with director Burton, even to the extent of playing off Wood's penchant for wearing angora blouses and skirts with panache. His earnestness lifts the movie from what could easily have been made something far more depressing given Ed Wood's spectacular failure with regards to his career. Martin Landau, in an Oscar-winning performance, is very impressive indeed as Bela Lugosi, playing his extreme patheticism and drug addiction in a brave and unflattering light. The rest of the cast are good also, including the novelty of seeing Sarah Jessica Parker as Wood's girlfriend. Clearly a versatile actress she should find no problem finding work once TV's Sex And The City has finished. Juliet Landau (Buffy The Vampire Slayer's Drusilla) puts in a good turn as one of Wood's leading actresses.

Whilst there are parts that drag, Burton's minute attention to detail (which never takes your attention away from the movie itself) makes it seem like you're watching a real 50's movie, especially given the mannered yet somehow realistic performances. It might not be Burton's most accessible or even most enjoyable picture, but it stands as something of a standout in the genre of the biopic. It's strange, magnificent, on a grand-scale, in short exactly what how you can imagine Wood wanting his life to be committed to film.

Offbeat film of an offbeat man
This is one of the best biopics I've seen. The true story of Ed Wood, Hollywood's worst director. Tim Burton captures the look and feel of the 1950's perfectly. Johnny Depp is excellent in his role as Wood. His optimism and chirpy good nature reminded me of Ned Flanders, another man who has total faith in the future. Martin Landau is superb as the once-great horror star Bela Lugosi.

Ed Wood always knew he would be remembered, but probably not in the way he expected. In this film we see his misfortunes, trials and disappointments, and can't help laughing. Ed Wood tried to overcome adversity, and mostly failed. Some of the problems were not of his making, he needed money to finance his movies and was open to exploitation by those with their own vision. Or the people around him were clownish amateurs, not quite understanding what Wood wanted.

All in all, this is a great movie about the making of three very terrible movies.

Future events such as these will affect YOU in the future.
This is my favorite movie for so many reasons, that I don't have the coherence of thought to express them all. So, here are my top ten reasons why you should buy Ed Wood (right now!):

10. Filmed in gorgeous Black and White
9. An Oscar-winning performance by Martin Landau
8. A "should have won an Oscar" performance by Johnny Depp
7. A gigantic fake rubber octopus
6. Mariachis
5. Johnny Depp wearing multiple dresses.
4. Black booties
3. Angora sweaters
2. It's the best film ever made about what movies can mean to us
1. There's not one bad line, or false note, or miscast performance. It's perfect!

Hecrules and the Amazons
This is such a great movie. Thr first time I saw it I was on the edge of my seat. It's wonderful how you can see it over and over and notice things that you didn't notice before. And after Xena Warrior Princess became such a hit anyone can pick her out of the Amazons. She does an extraordinary job of portraying her character. Roma Downy does an exceptional job of playing Hippolyta. And Kevin Sorbo, what can I say, he always does a great job of playing Hercules. I love this movie!

Lucy (pre Xena Lucy) Lawless is in this!!
Hercules and Ioleus visit a village that is frequently under attack by a local Amazon tribe. To prove himself to the Amazon Queen, Hippolyta, Hercules must endure the worst of Hera's torments. All in a day's Hercs. Great fun, touch of romance, tweak of corny humor. Enjoy.

Top Notch Fantasy
Hercules and the Amazon Women can be said to have everything, action, humor, romance, and a great cast ranging from Kevin Sorbo and Anthony Quinn to Roma Dowmey. If you love the Hercules T.V. show, check this one out! also keep a look out for Lucy Lawless in a role before Xena.

Ice Station Zebra
Released in VHS Tape by M G M, Inc (17 January, 1989)
MPAA Rating: G (General Audience)
Director: John Sturges
Starring: Rock Hudson, Ernest Borgnine, and Patrick McGoohan
Average review score:

Solid Acting and Effective Production
At times a taut and effective thriller that seems the pattern for much of Tom Clancy's books, "Ice Station Zebra" has a fairly simple plot: a space capsule with top secret photographs crashes, prompting a race between the Soviets and Americans to recover it from the polar icecap. Yet, the tension is kept reasonably high, even as much of the movie is spent aboard the U.S. submarine carrying the recovery team. Rock Hudson is, well, rock solid as the submarine captain--cool, thoughtful, and easy-going, he plays well against the skulking but ironic British spy (a teriffic Patrick MacGoohan, essentially playing the same part he always does in the way only he seems able to) that may or may not be a saboteur. Viewers will recognize other familiar faces--Jim Brown and Ernest Borgnine among them--that root the film in the 60s, and the whole production--including the cinematography, special effects, and score by Maurice Jarre--are topnotch. The only real weaknesses to the film are the mystery of who is the double agent and an action ending that seems almost anticlimactic when compared to the genuine tension in the rest of the story. Still, it's a better espionage thriller than most of those found in theaters today.

solid action flick..........but where's the DVD?
Ice Station Zebra is one of my favorite flims next Where Eagles Dare, The Green Berets, and The Great Escape. I.S.Z. begins when Navy submarine commander James Farraday (Rock Hudson) is asked to take a British agent (Patrick McGoohan) to a remote outpost known as Ice Station Zebra to find a downed Russian satilite that contain top secret photos of Western missile installations. Tagging along with Farraday is a tough no-nonsense Marine captain, brilliantly acted by Jim Brown, fresh from his role as a prisoner turned soldier in Dirty Dozen. Also tagging along is a defecting Russian played by Oscar-winner Ernest Borgnine. And starring in a cameo in this picture is war movie veteran Lloyd Nolan who plays a U.S. admiral. This movie should have been nominated for Best Special Effects, Best Picture, Best Cinematgraphy, and for Best Sound Effects. I hope that this "lost" gem of a movie is released on DVD format. I wish they would release it in DVD. If you love action movies about the cold war, give this movie a try, I recemend it.

The best cold war film ever made
1968 was indeed a very busy year in terms of classic films. Films such as 2001:A Space Odyssey, Planet Of The Apes, Thunderbird 6, Romeo and Juliet, The Lost Continent, among the many. However, they were not as powerful as this Cinerama release. One that made reclusive billionaire Howard Hughes watch this movie over and over, without ever becoming bored. It is easy to understand why. Ice Station Zebra is also a favorite movie of mine, too.

Based on British novelist Alistar MacLean's classic Cold War action adventure/political thriller, the box office smash hit MGM film focuses on a downed Russian satellite in the Artic Circle region. A satellite that crashes near a British civilian weather research station known as Ice Station Zebra. The English scientists discover that the satellite contains film of Western power missile sites and other defense instillations. At the same time of the discovery, disaster hits the station in the form of explosive sabotage. Enter into the picture Captain James Ferraday and the crew of the United States Naval Submarine U.S.S. Tigerfish. Ferraday is given orders to bring British intelligence agent David Jones, former Russian agent turned defector Boris Vaslov, U.S. Marine Captain Leslie Anders and a platoon squad of Marine sharpshooters. While officially their mission is to rescue the scientists in the North Pole, unofficially, they are ordered to recover the satellite, obtain the film, and prevent it from falling into the hands of the Union Of The Soviet Socialistic Republic.

Not everything is all that it seems to be on the "rescue mission." The submarine is nearly destroyed by sabotage. When the Tigerfish arrives at Ice Station Zebra, it is soon discovered that there is a double agent among the crew and scientists. And this double agent is a madman who will stop at nothing to obtain the film and kill those who get in the way.

When both Anders and Vaslov are accidentally killed and a squad of Russian paratroopers arrive on the scene, it soon becomes a struggle to maintain the balance of world power, and prevent the Cold War from becoming a thermonuclear war between the United States of America and Soviet Russia.

Like The Guns Of Navarone, Force 10 From Navarone, and Bear Island, Ice Station Zebra is shockingly timely as tomorrow's headlines. The movie truly reflects the Cold War period of the late Sixties with powerful results. From the cold, deadly beauty of the world under the ice to the howling fury of an artic blizzard, the 1968 MGM film painstakingly records every twist and turn with upmost realism. It perfectly demonstrates how complex world politics and the balance of power can be, but most of all, it can demonstrate how something mass produced by either side can literally change the structure of our world.

If you enjoy action and adventure, as well technothrillers, cold war classics, science fiction, or just war movies in general, then you will not be disappointed by this classic form of entertainment. The race is on, so join the fun at Ice Station Zebra.

The film stars the late Rock Hudson, Ernest Borgnine, British actor Patrick McGoohan, Jim Brown, Tony Bill, Michael Rougas, Alf Kjellin, Ron Masak, William O'Connell, Jim Goodwin, Michael Mikler, Gerald S. O'Laughlin, Ted Hartley, Lloyd Haynes, and the late Lloyd Nolan.

An Absolute Childhood Classic!
I remember watching this video every day, when I was very young, until my siblings were blue in the face with annoyance! :) I am 17 now and this movie is still a favorite with me. I would really like to have it in my collection but I am having trouble finding it! It is a must have!

how can you get funnier than this
the very first time i saw this movie i was laughing so much that tears were rolling down my face.the best part was when they were in church and bobo was howling to the song.there were parts in this movie that would make anybody laugh.this is one that should be on dvd i would be one of the first ones to buy it.

Laugh out loud funny
This has to be just about the funniest movie I ever saw. Howie Mandel is excellent as Bobo a man lost in the woods for 28 years raised by wolves. This movie is very kid friendly and good family entertainment. There is no sex or violence in the movie. I very highly recommend Walk Like A Man to anyone who enjoys laughing a lot.

The Best of Cartoons
Spongebob Squarepants is BY FAR one of the best, if not the best, cartoon(s) on television at this time. Being 13, you wouldn't expect someone like me enjoying cartoons, but Spongebob is funny for everyone.
"JELLYFISHING" This episode, a good starter to the video, shows how Spongebob longs to be Squidward's friend...and Squidward can't stand it.
"DYING FOR PIE" One of those left-turn-in-the-last-minute sort of caroons.
"WORMY" This episode displays how blissfully ignorant Patrick and Spongebob are...and how much we enjoy that fact.
"F.U.N." One of the trademark Spongebob episodes, you will not be able to get the FUN song out of your head!
"CLUB SPONGEBOB" This episode is a little long-winded, but enjoyable figuring it's never been on TV before.
If you're looking for something different, or to just keep the kids quite for an hour, this video is the right thing for you!

Fun for everyone!!
Spongebob is one of the best cartoons ever. It's funny and suitable for all ages. Here a low down on the episodes on this VHS:
Jellyfishing-After Squidward recovers from a bicycle accident,Spongebob&Patrick decide to give him "the best day ever'by taking him(you guessed it)jellyfishing.
Dying for Pie-For Employee Appreciation Day,Squidward gets Spongebob an exploding pie. Before he can take it away(after finding how destructive it is) Spongebob eats it...
Wormy-Spongebob&Patrick take care of Sandy's pet worm. The next day, they found out a "monster" ate him!!
F.U.N-Sensing Plankton's loneliness,Spongebob decides to treat him to a day a fun,much to Mr.Krab's dismay.
Club Spongebob-Squidward,Spongebob&Patrick accidently get launched into the middle of nowhere.Their only hope is the Magic Conch shell.

If you love Spongebob, you love this VHS!!

You Don't Have To Be A Kid...
So in all honesty I ain't a little kid. I'm 19 years old...but nobody ever said that you have to be a little kid to enjoy cartoons.

While I don't have this movie I have seen these episodes and Spongebob has got to be the cutest little "sea critter" (as Sandy calls them) I've ever seen. It's got a great sense of humor that I think both adults and kids will enjoy whether it be these episodes or the ones you watch on TV. It's just funny...in fact EXTREMELY FUNNY. I once heard someone say "it may seem a little silly at the beginning but trust me, just keep watching". That's what I have to say to you...

Whether you watch these episodes on VHS or catch Spongebob on Nickelodeon it may seem silly at first, but trust me, just KEEP WATCHING!

Caddyshack
Released in VHS Tape by Warner Studios (03 June, 2003)
MPAA Rating: R (Restricted)
Director: Harold Ramis
Starring: Chevy Chase, Rodney Dangerfield, and Bill Murray
Average review score:

Welcome to Bushwood Country Club
When I first saw the previews on HBO, it was to see Mr. Gopher, that wascally wodent, and yes, I'm ashamed to admit it, but to see Lacey Underall in action. Hey, gimme a break! I was thirteen, okay? I'm not attracted by that type anymore.

As for Mr. Gopher, he becomes the target of Carl (Bill Murray), the assistant groundskeeper, who is something of a basket case. He has funny monologues with himself, watches the elderly woman golfers and mutters things with ... undertones, and seems to be living in his own little world.

The previews described this as the slobs against the snobs. Well, Judge Smales (Ted Knight), Dr. Beeper, and the bishop definitely fit the latter. They try to keep certain people from becoming members, and are clearly the elite class. Result, they turn Bushwood into what Al Czervik calls a "crummy snobatorium." As Smales snidely tells off caddy Danny Noonan, who is unsure what to do with his life, but is aspiring for the caddy scholarship, "Well, the world needs ditchdiggers." His attitude changes when Noonan saves the judge from a golf mishap, but hey, as Czervik tells him, "Who made you pope of this dump?"

The laid back Ty Webb (Chevy Chase) is probably the one who's got the best philosophy to golf, just to play it. There's even a parodic reference to a certain George Lucas movie, when he tells Danny "There's a force in the world that makes things happen, and all you have to do is get in touch with it." Let's see, three years after... that'd be right. And I sincerely doubt that Matsuo Basho said this quote attributed to him by Ty, or if he did, it must have been in some very obscure renga verse of his: "A flute with no hole is not a flute, and a donut with no hole is a Danish."

In contrast, there's Al Czervik, a rich, loudmouthed, snazzily-dressed, life-of-the-party type who is full of jokes, wisecracks, and whether you like him depends on how uptight or laid back you are. At dinner, check out his rapid-fire delivery, "My compliments to the cook, this is low-grade dog food. The steak still has marks where the jockey was hitting it." He then makes a funny face as he passes gas, and asks, "Oh! Someone step on a duck?" His table dissolves with laughter. However, when an uptight man next to him fails to laugh, Czervik says, "The graveyard's two blocks to the left." Judge Smales taken an immediate dislike to Al, especially as the latter constantly needles him until he explodes in a temper.

The swimming pool scene is notable for the Busby Berkeley parody number, the usual party-like hijinks in the pool, and whenever I see Baby Ruths at my local store, I inwardly snicker--no pun intended. Although the next time I'm near a swimming pool...hmm, why not? With a candy bar, not what it was thought... never mind!

Dangerfield gets the best laughs and hands-down steals the movie as Al Czervik. Sure, he's got a big mouth and is an instant insult machine, but it's towards the uptight snobs. He also doesn't care too much for the club rules. Anytime I hear Journey's "Any Way You Want It", I think of this movie. And love his hi-tech gadgets! "Einstein sold me this golf club. Nice man--made a fortune in physics."

As for blonde Cindy Morgan (Lacey), okay, she only has one topless scene, but I've seen better looking models than her. And although the chittering, squeaking Chuck E. Rodent, who apparently loves swaying to Kenny Loggins' theme song "I'm Alright," clearly does not resemble a real gopher for laughs, he is to Bugs Bunny as Carl is to Elmer Fudd.

Much of the movie relies on Rodney Dangerfield's funny lines, Ty's deadpan quips, and some cartoon-style hijinks involving Mr. Gopher. In other words, classic 80's humor. But Danny Noonan's quest to find himself is a major part of this movie. Overall rating, 3.75, rounded to 4.

Winning the Caddy Scholarship, or just puttering around?
..."Caddyshack" might be the funniest film I ever have viewed... Writer/Director Harold Ramis and writer/actor Brian Doyle Murray have woven many strong comedic threads into Caddyshack's fabric.

Danny Noonan must win Bushwood Country Club's Caddy Scholarship to afford college. Danny circulates among Bushwood's members doing everything possible to win that scholarship. Danny panders to Ty Webb (Chevy Chase), an undermotivated overachiever whose father helped found Bushwood. Danny panders to Judge Smales (Ted Knight), the stuffed shirt who currently runs Bushwood. And Danny panders to Lacey Underall, Judge Smale's visiting niece who does not play ... golf. Meanwhile, Rodney Dangerfield plays Al Czervik, a nouveau riche real estate developer who attempts to breathe life into Bushwood's forest of bored stiffs. And Bill Murray plays Carl, the burnt-out assistant groundskeeper whose mission to trap a gopher escalates into World War III -- and the gopher survives.

"Caddyshack" shows Bushwood's members at extravagant play while the staff watches with scorn. *Carl, the burnt-out assistant groundskeeper, might be Bill Murray's greatest role.* Add original songs by Kenny Loggins and the result is an unforgettable masterpiece. "Caddyshack" has something for everybody -- even golfers.

Hillarious!
Loaded with a few of the greats in comedy.
