Corridor of Mirrors

Haunting
The plot itself is somewhat flimsy, but is made up for by Eric Portman's unique and haunting style. The set is incredible. There is only one flaw: Edana Romney couldn't act if her life depended on it. Don't watch her and it's a terrific film.

haunting, unforgettable
When television first came to my tiny town in north carolina in l950, this was the movie that they played repeatedly. It was shown at least once a day, usually at night for nearly two years. Why, I don't know, but it certainly branded itself into my mind. Well, I saw it again last night for the first time in 50 years. The result: still as haunting as ever with magnificent lighting, camerawork and an unforgettable performance by the gorgeous Edna Romney, the strange heroine who becomes involved with a mysterious and sinister London gentleman. She visits his eerie mansion where he has recreated a vanished era, filled with a corridor filled with mirrors and bizarre secrets. Edana is a unique beauty who had only made two movies before this: "The Strangler" in l940 and "Alibi" in l942. She also co-wrote the screenplay. Although she looks Italian, the striking brunette came from South Africa. We can only wonder what happened to her since there is no mention anywhere of her doing anything else after "Corridor." You may want to "lighten" up your screen since my video was often so dark I could barely see who doing what to whom. This may remind you of "Last Year at Marienbad" and "Hiroshima, Mon Amour" because of its strong arthouse ambiance. A must-see for anyone who wants to see what London was doing in terms of film right after the war.

Haunting Swing From Modern Day To Renaissance Romance
Eric Portman, a man possessed with the past is intrigued by a bruentte of classical beauty who fits the part perfectly in his "Corridor of Mirrors". It is a corridor any drag queen would die for. This beautiful black and white film has suspense, romance and an exceptional movie score to complement. Wait until you hear that glorious voice of Eric Portman who should have been as popular to the American public as James Mason. Should you agree with my review seek out other films by this excellent British actor.

HAWKEYE: WITH LYNDA CARTER
I enjoyed Hawkeye especially because of the beautiful Lynda Carter. Her acting abilities get better with each film and television show that she makes. This is one of my favourites because it is a real departure and has action, tragedy and drama. There are 2 or 3 videos to this series and I recommend them. I also enjoyed 'Hawkeye:Siege' which is the next installment. I highly recommend it for action fans, for Lynda Carter fans and for fans of period shows like "Dr Quinn". Quite a treat!

Hawkeye (pilot)
This was a wonderful, family oriented series and it is a shame that it was taken off the air . Lee Horsley is a very versitile,
and talented actor and gave the Hawkeye character warmth, moral integrity and strong, manly attributes.I highly recommend
this video.I hope that a syndicated network will bring this series back

HAWKEYE - PILOT
As a big fan of Lynda Carter, Lee Horsley, Rodney Grant, and American History - this was the perfect video for me. It is beautifully acted and scripted with breathtaking scenary and a hauntingly beautiful opening theme. For those who appreciate period pieces, of which there are far too few, I highly recommend this entire series. It's a real shame that this quality show was taken off the air far too prematurely.

Operation Dumbo Drop
Released in VHS Tape by Disney Studios (19 March, 1996)
MPAA Rating: PG (Parental Guidance Suggested)
Director: Simon Wincer
Starring: Danny Glover, Ray Liotta, and Denis Leary
Average review score:

Very Funny and Entertaining!
I thought this movie was a wonderful production, and it is mostly because of the cast. Glover was wonderful as the caring soldier who comes to love the village that he is responsible for. Liotta is also great as the hard-nosed, by-the-book soldier who comes to replace Glover's character in the village. When the town's elephant is killed by the Vietcong, it is up to them to produce another one. With the supporting cast of Doug E. Doug, Dennis Leary, and Corin Nemic, it a fun and entertaining movie. My favorite parts are with the elephant tranquilizer and the whole boat scene. I know anyone who sees this will love it, and I recommend it highly to anyone who wants to see a truly good movie.

Best jump scene ever!
What do you get when you combine:
- a near-retirement, throw-away-the-book officer that has been stationed in the middle of nowhere with no supervision and only Vietnamese for friends for years
- a hardcore airborne officer that goes strictly by the book
- a nearing ETS soldier who's scared out of his shoes that he will be killed just before he catches the freedom bird
- an Iowa farm boy that left the farm to get away from those doggone animals ... animals that never did like him
- a fast-talking romeo-type acquisitions officer
- a cantankerous female elephant
- a Vietnamese boy whose only remaining friend is a cantankerous female elephant

and send the group on a cross country journey through enemy territory?

You get a Walt Disney classic that will have you feeling every possible emotion. I have seen this movie hundreds of times and still end up in tears when I watch it. It is hilarious. Oddly enough, it is based on an actual true event. Only the 101st Airborne would do something like this.

This has my favorite parachuting scene. When they drop Botat out of the plane, her static line has been severed by a bullet and does not pull her chute. Geez, the next couple of minutes will stick with you for the rest of your life!

The casting was absolutely perfect. Each person played his role to the max! This is the movie that really brought Ray Liotta to our attention. Playing opposite Danny Glover was the ideal combination. They really rock in this movie.

Get this one for the entire family to enjoy! Also order the soundtrack. Once you see the movcie, you will picture Botat in the back of that old truck every time you hear "Hang On Sloopy" and you will see the flying adventure when you hear "Your Love Keeps Lifting Me Higher." Order both today.

A Masterpiece for the Whole Family
This movie provides an excellent example of how military occupation can not only democratize, but also civilize primitive societies. Even those satan - worshipping, slanty eyed cretans, and their treasured pachyderm. Our president should watch this movie every time he makes foreign policy decisions.

Safari 3000 (Amazon.com Exclusive)
Released in VHS Tape by MGM/UA Video (20 February, 2001)
MPAA Rating: PG (Parental Guidance Suggested)
Director: Harry Hurwitz
Average review score:

one of my favorites
this one of those movies that never won an academy award,
probably got mediocre reviews, and has been largely forgotten
by the movie-going public. for me, however, it is one of those movies that i never tire of seeing over and over. christopher lee gets to
do deadpan comedy and rest of the cast do a terrific job of
dealing with the african desert. stockard channing has to cope
with a baby baboon climbing over her for most of the movie and it is interesting to see her professionalism in handling it.

Journey To The Center of my Soul
Cunning. Ingenious. Skillful.

There are words that accuratly describe the Harry Hurwitz masterpiece know as Safari 3000. Hurwitz, who had directed such cinematic gems as 1994's Fleshtone and 1984's No Tell Hotel, hones in on greatness in his Junior effort. Set in the large and wild country of Africa, David Carradine and Stockard Channing team up as stunt-man and writer, competing to win an international road-race. There are many elements of this movie that are extremely rewarding, expecailly how Hurwitz decided to set the movie in Africa. What a joy! Now Africa has the distinction of gaining notiriety from not just Safari 3000, but Ace Ventura Two When Nature Calls, Ernest Goes to Africa, and Shaft in Africa. When did this country get so popular? If you havent seen this cult classic, by all means go to your local Blockbuster and demand that the inept teenage chashier orders five, if not ten copies. We all have a chance of dying as each day passes. Not seeing this film would be a sin, unless your "special" like Timothy Rice.

Safari 3 thoustastic
If I were only allowed to use one word to summarize this movie, I would choose, marvelous. This movie is pure cinematic genius, its clever plot interwines three main conflicts. One being the classic love/hate relationship between the guy from Kung Fu and the woman from West Wing. The other spicy conflict involves a couple of british men who dress up like aliens, these men seemingly have some sort of gruge against the Kung Fu guy. It could be because he's Asian, although they don't dwell much on the ethnic perspective of this movie. These british aliens are bent on destroying the chances of the Kung Fu guy and the West Wing girl winning the coveted Safari Cup. However, the man from Kung Fu is strong of mind and body, and he easily overcomes the paltry attempts of the british aliens. In a wonderfully cinematogored scene the two lovers romp in a large mud puddle created by a sceneic rainstorm. It brought a tear to my eye. As you can see this movie has a very realistic good vs. evil elemnt to it. I fully recomend this movie to all.
Timothey Rice is stupid.

Beat Girl
Released in VHS Tape by Kino Video (06 November, 2001)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Director: Edmond T. Gréville
Before swinging London and the rock & roll explosion took over English youths, Britain's first teen rebel didn't have much of a cause but plenty of attitude. Pouty art-school student Jennifer (teen sex kitten Gillian Hills, looking very much a British Bardot) is the Beat Girl of the title, an alienated teenager who hangs out in coffee shops and underground clubs with beatniks and teddy boys. When her self-absorbed father returns home with a sexy French bride, the picture warps into lurid melodrama as Jennifer tracks a suspicion about her stepmom to a sleazy strip club managed by an even sleazier Christopher Lee, whose salacious desires she realizes too late. Director Edmond T. Greville, a craftsman of the old school, brings an unexpected, edgy grit to the low-budget picture, injecting the callow clichés of lost youth with a nervous energy and a genuine sense of desperation. John Barry's growling score gives the film a rumbling undercurrent, and the cheap, claustrophobic sets (often hiding in darkness) only enhance the sleazy atmosphere. The mix of teenage desperation, rock & roll music, and lurid sensationalism (complete with teasing nudity in the strip club) creates a strange hybrid: a teen exploitation film with a film noir soul. Costar Adam Faith sings a couple of songs and Oliver Reed appears in a few scenes as a drugged-up, funked-out teddy boy. --Sean Axmaker

CLASSIC PULP!!!
Strippers, delinquints, and beatniks,(kind of). This movie really delivers.Gillian Hills is a frustrated teen-ager,who happens to look a lot like a young Bardot. Angry that the woman her father has married is an ex-stripper (and barely older than she is!).Gillian decides to try her hand at the age-old trade. But not before hanging out in a cave with her delinquent friends, incuding her rockabilly boyfriend(who happens to have a song for every occasion),playing chicken on some railroad tracks and dance repeatedly to John Berry's theme. Also look for Christopher Lee as an evil strip club owner. This British look at the beat generation may not be accurate, but it sure doesn't dissapoint! BEAT GIRL (a.k.a. Wild For Kicks) is a real treat for anyone who enjoys classic teen exploitation movies from the fifties and sixties.

Hillarious!
Superb camp value! My favorite scene: A 30-ish actress playing an 18 year old girl singing a song called "It's Legal." A must-have for any cheesy movie lover's collection!

The Best Movie ever made in Britain!
Superb low-budget masterpiece combines John (James Bond Theme) Barry's classic soundtrack with an all-pervading atmosphere of sleaze. Christopher Lee is excellent as a corrupt strip-club manager with a taste for young flesh; Gillian Hills does a very respectable British Bardot and Adam Faith struggles manfully with a role a Jazz fan (but who sings rockabilly). Plus some great strippers! Forget Gandhi, this is the best film Britain exer made.

Beyond Justice

Decent B Movie with Omar Sharif
This is a non-stop action adventure in which Carol Alt seeks out mercenary Rutger Hauer to retrive her kidnapped son from his arab grandfather (Omar Shariff). Explosive gunfire is everywher in this fast=paced feature combing spectacular action, superb acting, an intriguing plot, and breathtaking scenes shot in the Sahra desert.

An underrated action movie.
This movie has been largely ignored by the general public. I suppose this may be partly due to the confusion about the title (it has been released as 'Desert Law', 'Law of the Desert' and 'Beyond Justice'). Nevertheless Beyond Justice is a fast-paced movie combining spectacular action, good acting and a plot, that is at least two steps above average for movies in this genre. The Maltin summary does not do this movie justice. The plot may have some twists in it, but it avoids the usual loose ends and I see no reason, why an action movie should have a completely predictable plot. The actors do a good job (Omar Sharif obviously enjoying himself as a conservative Arab Sheik and Rutger Hauer quite believable as a matter-of-fact mercenary) The camera work is downright spectacular, using the impressive landscape of the Sahara to great effect and the score is one of the best ever to be heard in action movies. On the whole this is a forgotten movie, that deserved a far better fate.

Great Entertainment
Loved the movie and have been trying to purchase it for some years. It has been brought out under quite a few names i.e. Maktub. Law of the Desert and Beyond Justice to name just two. Its great acting and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
