The Powerpuff Girls - Monkey See, Doggie Do
Released in VHS Tape by Hanna-Barbera (23 October, 2001)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Directors: Craig McCracken, Robert Renzetti, John McIntyre, Genndy Tartakovsky, Robert Alvarez (II), Lauren Faust, and Randy Myers
Starring: Cathy Cavadini, Elizabeth Daily, and Tara Strong
The Powerpuff Girls blends strong female figures with striking graphic design to create an action-packed cartoon for 5- to 9-year-olds (although parents should monitor the violent content here). Bubbles, Blossom, and Buttercup are three kindergartners with superhero powers that help the mayor keep Townsville safe. There are five separate episodes in this hour-long tape. In "Monkey See, Doggie Do," the villainous Mr. Mojo Jojo is systematically turning townspeople into dogs. It's up to the Powerpuff Girls to break the spell--but can they succeed even after Mojo turns them into Powerpups? "Mommy Fearest" paints a frightening picture of Professor Utonium's new date--good thing the Powerpuffs see through her facade! In "Telephonies," crank calls from the Gangrene Gang have the Powerpuff Girls roughing up Mojo, Fuzzy, and Dim when they haven't done anything wrong. You'll never guess who saves the day! If you've ever wondered what the colorful Townsville would be like in black and white, check out "Mime for a Change." When Rainbow the clown gets bleached and becomes the evil Mr. Mime, it's up to the Powerpuff Girls to put the color and sound back into Townsville. The Emmy-nominated "Bare Facts" details the Powerpuff Girls' rescue of the kidnapped mayor. The use of a blank screen with audio to represent the blindfolded mayor's experience and three distinct animation styles to underscore each Powerpuff's version of the rescue is wonderfully effective and shows viewers just how differently Bubbles, Buttercup, and Blossom think. --Tami Horiuchi

Monkey See, Doggie Do
The Powerpuff Girls' VHS "Monkey See, Doggie Do" is spectacular!! This video contains some of the classsic Powerpuff episodes.

Monkey See, Doggie Do
This is my personal favorite! Mojo steals the head of Anubis (the Egyptian god that has a dog's head) and the Anubial jewels. When he puts them together he can change humans into dogs and control them to fulfill his evil plans! The Girls have to save the day again!

Mommie Fearest
In this episode Professor Utonium falls for a beautiful woman he meets in the supermarket. She is nice and perfect to the girls as well until the Professor leaves and she becomes a horror! The girls discover what is really going on and have to deal with the maddness!

Telephonies
This episode has the Gangreen Gang playing pranks on townsville. Can the Powerpuff Girls stop the Gang before they go too far and drive everyone crazy?!?

Rainbow The Clown
Rainbow the colorful clown turns bad and is transforned into Mister Mime. Now he is going around Townsville changing everything into black and white and silent, including Blossom and Buttercup! Can Bubbles change this new dark world into a bringt colorful and happy place again?

The Bare Facts
Most of the action takes place in the dark while the Mayor is blindfolded and the Girls try to explain to him that he was kidnapped and they saved him. The mayor can't figure out what's so funny! This is a funny and surprising episode!

This is, in my opinio, the best of the Powerpuff Girls' Collection of videos! It is really great and hilarious!!!
A must have for any Powerpuff fan and anyone wanting to see the Girls at their best!
You won't regret it!

Another smashing good Powerpuff collection
This Powerpuff-packed collection contains five stories: Monkey See Doggy Doo, Mommie Fearest, Telephonies, Mime For A Change, and The Bare Facts.

In the title cartoon: villainous chimp Mojo Jojo steals the Anubial jewels and a doghead statue which turns into a weapon that transforms people into dogs. Not only does it even works on the Powerpuffs, but we also see Miss Bellham's face for once. There are references, verbal or otherwise, to the movies Dog Day Afternoon and The Doberman Gang. (Rating 5)

The lonely but woman-shy Professor Utonium falls in love with Ima Goodlady in "Mommie Fearest." The narrator describes the Prof as a smooth operator. His first words on meeting Ima? "I... I... I..." Ima, who decides to live with the Professor to help around, seems like a sweet-loving woman to him, but becomes a total ogre to the Powerpuffs, especially concerning their superpowers. This episode features the Powerpuff's trademark line: "We fight crime. That's what we do. Duh!" One sweet scene involves the Professor closing the door to the girls' room. A soft whimper is heard, and then the Professor opens the door, after which a wide-eyed Bubbles sleeps, happily secure. Awww! (Rating 4)

"Telephonies" has the Gangreen Gang making prank calls from the Mayor's office, crying wolf to the Powerpuff Girls. We learn that Grubber has a talent in imitating voices. However, they don't realize the folly of setting up key villains, and this proves to be their undoing. We also learn here that Mojo Jojo, although the most popular and reoccurring villain, is deferential to Him. (Rating 5)

Rainbow the Clown turns into an evil mime bent on transforming Townsville to black-and-white in "Mime For A Change." There are allusions to silent movies and Yellow Submarine. Bubbles' love of drawing pictures is emphasized here to the point that Buttercup thinks she's lost it. Well, not only does Bubbles save the day, but she's tops in sheer lovability. This features her line: "Don't just stand there! Start colouring!" (Rating 5)

The best and most imaginative cartoon is "The Bare Facts," where after being rescued from Mojo Jojo by the cute trio, the mayor wants to know why the girls giggle at him. The classic Rashomon method of different people telling their version of the story, in this case the mayor's rescue, is used, with different animation styles for each of the girls, based on their personality. Bubbles' style and narration is the funniest. She says that she tells stories "the bestest," and that "I remember everything like it happened yesterday." Blossom: "It happened today!" (Rating 5)

So once again, this collection of cartoons is saved by the Powerpuff Girls, especially Bubbles, who may be the baby of the bunch and the most adorable, but also the most appealing. Overall rating--average of (5+4+5+5+5) = 4.8, rounded to 5.

the cutest fighters that ever wore a dress..
my God !they are so so adorable, cute and funny.. i loved their series very much after i watched it.. 'cuz at first i thought it was for kids when i saw Bubbles and her baby acts, Blossom and her bossy personality.. but Buttercup.. wow she was some thin'.. any way the film was fantastic.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Turtles' Awesome Easter
Released in VHS Tape by Family Home Entertainment (03 March, 1993)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Average review score:

A great easter special.
For the Easter season, Krang has a new device invented, this one will turn however is hit by it into a timid coward. Bebop and Rocksteady begin blasting everyone in Channel 6 with it, and when the TMNT try to stop them, they get blasted too! Luckily, mutants aren't effected by the ray, so it's up to Leonardo and Raphael to try to find a cure, as they enter the world of fairy tales, and meet a new ally in Hokum Hare. Meanwhile, Shredder is planning to have the ray transmited via satellite to blast everyone in the city! That's bad! Another great Turtles tape. It also includes a second episode in which the Turtles meet their future selves. It also wraps up the Hokum Hare storyline from the first episode. Another great TMNT video! I hope this series will find its way to DVD one day!

GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!
I do not own many TMNT episodes but of all of the ones I do own this one is the BEST! The only problem was that I do not care for Hokem Hare's voice, I find it irritating. The video has two diffrent episodes: The Turtles And The Hare and Once Upon A Time Machine. Both are WONDERFUL episodes! I would reccomend it to anyone who enjoys the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!

Two Egg-Cellent Adventures!
There are two episodes on this video:

"The Turtles and the Hare"
"Once Upon a Time Machine"

In the first episode, we learn that Shredder and Krang are up to their all too familiar shenanigans - this time, in the spirt of Easter, they dress up Bebop and Rocksteady in bunny suits and send them to earth with a ray to zap everyone into timid little creatures. Just like terrified rabbits!

Meanwhile, Donatello is busy showing the Turtles his latest invention - an automatic Easter egg-making machine. Of course, anyone who has watched the Ninja Turtles for any amount of time knows what eventually happens - Donatello's invention eventually goes haywire, and his latest failure leaves egg on his face. Literally!

When the Turtles learn of the nefarious scheme that Shredder and Krang have orchestrated, they quickly discover that the only way to reverse the effects of the ray is to travel to the Fairy Tale Dimension and nab some shiny red stone. Along the way, they meet the Three Little Pigs, the Big Bad Wolf, the characters from Jack and the Beanstalk . . . and also one other character named Hokum Hare.

Together, Hokum and the Turtles set out to reverse what has happened on Earth. Do they succeed? Um, I can't remember - my memory seems to have eluded me. Guess you'll just have to buy the video to find out!

The second episode is definitely one of the more funny episodes in the history of the series. This time Shredder and Krang have hatched a plot to rule the future! Hokum Hare returns in this episode, and eventually all characters (Shredder and his cronies; the Turtles and Hokum) end up in the future.

What makes the episode a treat is watching the old Ninja Turtles. Michaelangelo and is fat and out of shape; Donatello is blind as a bat; Raphael's legs are shot; and Leonardo has memory problems. This makes for some hilarious scenes in the episode that have made this reviewer crack up every time.

Can the old Turtles save the future? Can the young Turtles save the future? Once again, my memory escapes me - in other words, buy the video! You won't regret it!!

Catsanova & Hawaii-Eek 5-0

Love Eek! the Cat
It was great to see Eek! and Sharky and Annabelle again -- I only wish more of the episodes had been released on video. My son (18) and I laughed until we had tears! Let's all hope more Eek! is put on video - or better yet, back on TV?

Great video!
Although not the best episodes of this great show, it is still good to see Eek on video. Filled with sight gags and references to pop culture and other movies and shows, you have to watch it two or three times to get them all. Great entertainment for kids and adults alike. Really funnny stuff here. Savage Steve Holland (Better Off Dead), Bill Kopp (Mad Jack the Pirate and others) and crew really did this one up right. I wish they had released more episodes, but the goons at Fox didn't know a true hit when they had one. These two episodes are from the first season and pretty much show all the major characters. Don't get me wrong, this video is definitely worth the money! If you are a long time fan of Eek! or someone who wants to know what its all about this is the video, the only video currently for you! ...

Fandango
Released in VHS Tape by Warner Studios (23 May, 1995)
MPAA Rating: PG (Parental Guidance Suggested)
Director: Kevin Reynolds
Starring: Kevin Costner and Judd Nelson
An unknown Kevin Costner is magnetic in this entertaining road picture that bypassed most theaters when it was released 1985. On the eve of their college graduation in 1972, five students go off for one last road trip together to righteously celebrate the privilege of youth. Kevin Reynolds expanded his grad-school film to make this one, which he also directed, and it caught the eye of Steven Spielberg, who made Fandango one of his first projects at the newly formed Amblin. Costner's charisma is undeniable in his first lead performance as Gardner Barnes, the free bird of the group. Barnes applauds buddy Kenneth's (Sam Robards) decision to cancel his wedding and now is talking him into dodging the draft. But lost love drives Gardner, too, and we see dreams of an abandoned beauty (Suzy Amis). Others in the car include stick-in-the-mud Judd Nelson (in his best performance), who is gung ho for fulfilling his duty in Vietnam, and the soft giant Dorman (Chuck Bush). Reynolds's aggressive camera style and great use of music (Elton John's "Saturday Night's Alright (for Fighting)" and Blind Faith's "Can't Find My Way Home" bookend the picture) make this film zing along. Reynolds and Costner went on to film (and fight off-screen) two more pictures, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves and Waterworld, but they were never better together than in this first film. Being hungry Hollywood unknowns does have certain advantages. --Doug Thomas

Hey, WB; do us a favor here...
This little coming-of-age flick is a real gem. All of the comments of hungry actors, hungry directors, etc., etc., etc., are correct. And, perhaps, the wonderful script, the genuine enthusiastic acting, the flying stunts (by the great Bob Hoover), the hundreds of moments we can all identify with (You've got to love the bottle rocket battle, and the broken down car scene), the soundtrack which is arguably one of the best uses of classic cuts by Blind Faith, Elton John, and the wonderful Pat Metheny ballad at the wedding, all pull this little cinematic adventure together.

Read all the reviews, see the movie, and then do us all a favor. With the myriad tons of junk released on DVD these days (and re- and re-released, with more "features", second disks of the director's brothers commentary, and on and on, ad nauseum), write a note to Warner, and maybe WB could do us consumers a small favor and release this on DVD. Hey, I'll buy the first. Maybe the second and third, too, as gifts.

This movie is one of those wonderful reasons to have a home theater, and share moments with family and friends, and maybe just sit around and have an evening to yourself, and cherish what the big screen can do. How about a little help, eh WB?

First time movie for some of today's biggest stars
A "coming of age" film that was the first or second film for director Kevin Reynolds and stars Kevin Costner, Judd Nelson, Sam Robards, and Suzi Amis. Other lessor-known actors are equally memerable. The best part is that some of the music is by Pat Metheny. The rest is all late 60's/early 70's rock. The story is about a last fling of youth as a group of friends goes on a road trip before the the military draft, a wedding, and even worse, a career in accountancy seperates the group after college graduation. The films heavy symbolism helps to highlight the decisions that the guys must make. Very thought provoking, funny, and featuring the best wedding sequence you will ever see. I loved the movie so much that I named my sailboat "Fandango." Now if only someone would publish a soundtrack....

A True Gem:
Any guy who has been on a road trip with his buddies - only to have things go other than planned - will thoroughly love this movie. The characters portrayed in this movie will certainly touch some personal heart string; and I think the actors do some of their best work ever in this picture.

The acting, the directing, the lighting & camera angles, the sound track, and the writing mix wonderfully to make you laugh, remember, reflect, and it gave me a desire to live life to its fullest. During this movie I thought about life & death, love & solitude... and I laughed many, many times.

For a deatail of the plot read the other great reviews of this classic. But I think it's best enjoyed watching with a friend. Guys: watch this movie with a friend and you'll howl at the humor and remember what true friendship is about. Girls: watch this movie with a guy and you'll see what makes us do some of the hair-brained things we do.

There are too many one-of-a-kind scenes to talk about here: sky diving, hitching a ride with a train, planning a wedding, and getting the bride there on time.

This is one of my favorite movies of all time!

Roughnecks - The Starship Troopers Chronicles - The Klendathu Campaign
Released in VHS Tape by Columbia Tristar Hom (28 May, 2002)

Directors: Sean Song, Alan Caldwell, Audu Paden, Chris Berkeley, Sam Liu, David Hartman (III), and Jay Oliva

Human arrogance takes center stage
Thanks to BKN, I've been privy to see these episodes beforehand and I have to commend their creators. Without trying to be vague and still ease people's apprehension (I was allowed to see the episodes in order and hate spoilers, so forgive my vagueness), this series, while showing us the flaws in the bipedal killing machine, works on a few levels. It doesn't simply give the viewer an army of bugs as they are overrun, but instead continues with the progression of the characters and their unfortunate plight. Thusfar, we, the viewers, have watched our beloved Roughnecks turn from rookies into hardened veterans as they've faced down adversity and droves of bugs. Still, the series outdoes itself in this set of episodes, leading us even further down paths that weren't so easily predicted. They manage, in the battle for the bugs home planet, to pull out all the stops and show us a battle worthy of our attention. Certainly, we all knew that this was coming, but what we didn't know was the wonderful surprise that leads our Roughnecks, like cattle, into the next, and final, installation of the series. Personally, I think this was the second best piece of the Starship Troopers Campaign, and was the best to come along thusfar. Still, what else would you expect from bugs defending their homes?
I highly recommend the whole series, but I recommend this DVD and the next as two that are definitely worth purchasing. (Thank you, BKN!!!)

Klendathu's Forecast: Expect high temperatures...and Bugs!!!
This disc contains episodes 26 thru 30 of Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles (40 episodes altogether). This campaign has it all - a full scale D-Day invasion of the Bug's homeworld (Klendathu), a very changed Zander Barcalow trying to create a very crude Human-Arachnid hybrid, troopers sending video-taped "letters home" to loved ones during the lulls of trench warfare, tactical nuclear strikes, acid spitting Bugs, and the return of an old friend to help hunt down a new foe. This is Roughnecks near its peak performance, some of the best episodes of the whole series!

Be sure to check out the Filmmakers' and Technical commentaries, they definitely make the disk worthy of repeat viewing. There is no picture gallery on this DVD, but the galleries on the Hydora and Tophet DVDs are so extensive that additional galleries at this point would probably be redundant. Oh yeah, and there is FINALLY a decent trailer for the rest of the Roughnecks series included on this disc. If you're a die-hard Roughnecks fan (like myself), this is a great disc to show your friends and family in order to hook them on the series!

TAKING THE WAR TO THE BUGS
The Roughnecks bring the war to the bugs in "The Klendathu Campaign", the latest DVD release from the Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles series. The story opens with the Valley Forge being hijacked by an intruder with intimate knowlege of the ship. (Unfortunately the identity and origin of this intruder is explained in the previous 'Ice Asteroid Campaign' which is not yet released)The Roughnecks pursue the intruder forcing him to escape in a rescue pod, but not before he pilots the ship to Klendathu, the bug's home world. This marks the beginning of SICON's massive attack on the bug home. The Roughnecks participate in a massive 'D-Day' style invasion of Klendathu, confront an old friend now turned enemy and face a last stand against bug hoards in an abandoned trench. In the dramatic conclusion to the campaign Razak's squad is reunited with a long lost comrade to participate in a commando raid to destroy the arachnid queen and bring the war to a swift end.
The Klendathu Campaign is a thrilling continuation of the Roughnecks saga. The CGI by Foundation Imaging just continues to grow more subtle and sophisticated. The staging area, Klendathu is a fetid fog covered world swarming with seas of bugs. Battles range from massive invasions to search and destroy missions and even commando raids deep within enemy territory. The stories remain remarkably subtle and complex for American animation. The characters continue to grow and change; another Roughneck is lost to a crippling injury, an old squadmate returns but has changed in frightening ways, gung-ho Dizzy experiences self-doubt, while Rico begins to show leadership mettle. The series even pauses from endless battles to let the Roughnecks compose heartfelt messages home from battle (in 'Letters Home') This DVD is a must for any serious fan of animation and first rate story-telling.

Dogfight
Released in VHS Tape by Warner Studios (28 October, 1992)
MPAA Rating: R (Restricted)
Director: Nancy Savoca
Starring: River Phoenix and Lili Taylor
Director Nancy Savoca tackles tough material in the battle of the sexes, late-teen division, and makes it bitterly moving. River Phoenix plays one of a group of youngish marines on the verge of shipping out to Southeast Asia in 1963 San Francisco. On their last night in port, they decide to hold a "dogfight": a contest to see who can get the ugliest girl to go out with him. Phoenix winds up with a pudgy waitress (Lili Taylor), who has dreams of being like her hero, Joan Baez. As he draws her out, he finds himself intrigued by the self-contained world she has created for herself and by the time he gets her to the dance he is regretting his decision--but is too macho to pull out. Barely released, the film features touching performances by both the late Phoenix and the always fascinating Taylor, who gives this character great dignity. --Marshall Fine

A Beautiful, True to life story
This movie was directed by Nancy Savoca, a woman who did much with low budgets. Here she gets her first fairly large budget (but still not much by Hollywood Standards) and she gives us a wonderful story. Set on the Eve of the Kennedy Assasination, when most people thought Vietnam was a minor annoyance that would be quickly solved, Sgt. Eddie Birdlace(River Phoenix) and his pals have landed in San Francisco. Birdlace has to find the ugliest date he can to Bring to the "Dogfight". The Dogfight is a party where Marines bring their "dates", and the one with the ugliest date wins. This seemed believeable to me because of the time the movie was set in (1963). Birdlace settles on Rose Fenney, played to perfection by Lily Taylor. I wont delve too much more into the story, but the love that devlops between Fenney and Birdlace is something to behold. Birdlace ships out and returns to a very different San Francisco in 1967. This movie was barely released, and I cant understand why. It was an excellent one. The soundtrack was superb, but I cant seem to find it anywhere.

DOGFIGHT - The ultimate love story!
Dogfight is a simple story set in a complex time(early '60's/ Vietnam War time). River Phoenix and Lili Taylor are both phenomenal in this low budget film directed by Nancy Savoca. It is set in 1963 San Francisco, four Marines are out on the town for thier last night of fun before shipping out to Okinawa. They have arranged a "dogfight", a contest where the Marine with the ugliest "date" wins. Little did Eddie Birdlace(Phoenix) know, he would find true love in Rose Tinney(Taylor), his "date" for the contest. This movie is the most realistic, touching, and darkly humorous love story I've ever seen. I saw it for the first time several years ago and fell in love with it. Phoenix gives his best performance, next to My Own Private Idaho, in this film, and Taylor hers next to I Shot Andy Warhol. This film also has a great soundtrack, lots of folk music not normally used in early '60's period films, though it must be out of print because I can't seem to find it anywhere. This film didn't see a wide release and is fairly hard to find in rental stores, but it is well worth your time and money to get it. If you like the everyday, run-of-the-mill, romance films, you will love this extraordinary one. It's fresh and new, not like the more commercial films of this genera. It is definately a must have for River Phoenix or Lili Taylor fans.

great movie
Lily Taylor is great in this movie. Captures San Francisco of another era.

The Bug War Comes Home
The First Interstellar War comes to a stirring climax in "The Homefront Campaign", the latest DVD release in the Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles series. During the close of the Klendathu campaign, the Arachnid Queen escapes and SICON forces follow her trail. They find her in deep space and after pitched battle destroy the Royal Transport. The world celebrates but Carl Jenkins, the Roughnecks psychic believes the Queen is alive on Earth. At Carl's urging the Roughnecks enter deepest darkest suburbia to prove the bug menace remains. Sadly Jenkins is correct, the Queen is on Earth and our home becomes the last battlefield. The war does not go well, and the Roughnecks are in the thick of it. The squad suffers a terrible loss and must find a way to stay together to continue the fight.
This DVD is a triumph and disappointment. The stories in this chapter are surprisingly adult and poignant, as the squad deals with death, self-doubt, and uncertainty. The CGI work done primarily by Foundation Imaging is some of the best of the series (watch for the fighter plane flyover of Hawaii) The disappointment is that the end of the story is uncertain. Sony originally scripted three final episodes to include the final conflict of the war, and because of budgetary constraints those episodes have not been produced. I hope the success of these DVDs will prompt Sony to give the show's fans the ending they deserve.

At long last, the unaired episodes!
Recently I was pleasantly surprised to see DVDs of the Hydora, Tesca, and Tophet campaigns in a local video retailer. The last DVD that I was aware of being released was Pluto Campaign. I have seen all but the last 3 episodes on tv when they were originally aired, so I'm greatly looking forward to seeing the completion of the series. I am a HUGE fan of the show and have been VERY VERY lucky to have attended 3 conventions that several of the voice actors and production staff attended. Next to Gargoyles, this series was by far one of the best 'cartoon shows' that I have ever seen. Great detail was given to the character development and story line. It had great writers and had some great plot twists. Rico rules, but Gossard is God!

Thoughtful, Chonological Showcasing(thank you, BKN)
I'm eagerly awaiting these episodes on DVD because, in my opinion, they were the best part of an impressive series. I was lucky enough to be motivated when BKN had a Starship Troopers Marathon that showed every episode, day by painstaking day, until, at last, "Homefront" ended up on my platter. In my opinion, the climax to these episodes was worth the wait, too. While following the Troopers through all the other systems was fun (Tophet and Klenda being the other highpoints), the battle for Earth really took the proverbial cake. Bugs and our home sweet globe, two forces that should (and finally did) confront one another, lead to some awesome scenery and, more importantly, a change in the way the cartoon has been going. Until now, we've touched base a bit with tragedy and some emotions along the way, but we've also been submerged in an ocean of gunfights that the Troopers always win. Well, without giving anything away, this series goes above and beyond, letting you know desperation and the cost of war. You get the violence, but you also get so much more.
Its a sure bet!...
