Tex
Released in VHS Tape by Anchor Bay Entertainment (02 November, 1999)
MPAA Rating: PG (Parental Guidance Suggested)
Director: Tim Hunter
This unassuming little coming-of-age drama features Matt Dillon in the title role as a sweet, slightly dim teenager living with his older brother Mason (Jim Metzler) in a rural Oklahoma town. With an absentee father and a deceased mom, the two eke out a marginal existence; things get desperate enough for Mason to sell his and Tex's horses to have enough money for groceries. Mason is ready to graduate high school and has his sights set on Indiana University and a basketball scholarship; he has little patience for his younger brother and his antics, feeling like he has to babysit him to keep him out of trouble. Tex's partner-in-mischief is Johnny (Emilio Estevez), while Johnny's sister Jamie (Meg Tilly) is the object of Tex's crush. The two live under the stern eye of their authoritarian dad (Ben Johnson), foiling any ideas Tex may have about Jamie. If this film seems reminiscent of The Outsiders, it's because it's similarly based on an S.E. Hinton novel; its tone and mood also calls to mind early-'80s kid dramas such as Breaking Away and My Bodyguard. It's a quiet little movie, capturing the boredom and tedium of small-town life nicely, with good characterizations and early roles by the Brat Pack. Dillon helped define himself early on with troubled-teen roles, and this is a fine example. Tex is also notable because it was one of the first adult dramas to come from Disney Studios. --Jerry Renshaw

Blast From the Past
I recently purchased this movie after rereading my copy of TEX for probably the millionth time or so. The movie is an excellent version of the story...great for children for the most part. I recommend highly.

An excellent adaptation of S.E. Hinton¿s novel
What a great film this was- there was good acting, a good script, unexpected moments of hilarity- and best of all this film stayed close to the book. Many of the characters' lines in the movie are directly from the book. If you are fan of S.E. Hinton and her writings, you won't be disappointed by it. In my mind, "Tex" was even better than "The Outsiders," at least in terms of the movies.
Matt Dillon is superb as Texas McCormick, a quiet, somewhat immature teenager living in Oklahoma, the usual setting for Hinton's books. There are few moments in the film (don't worry, I won't give them away) that were extremely funny. However, not only is the humor entertaining in the movie, but the drama is well done too. Tex faces changes at home, with his friends Johnny and Jamie, and at school, and the result makes for a captivating story line.
The selection for the supporting cast is right on in almost every case- Jim Metzler plays Tex's brother Mason, who has to tend for his younger brother while also looking ahead to college and his own future. Emilio Estevez is Tex's spunky friend Johnny and Meg Tilly is Johnny's independent-minded sister Jamie, the object of Tex's affections.
Even the filming and quality of the movie is not bad, considering that it was made two decades ago. The music is usually fitting in each scene, and the script came off sounding realistic and genuine. All in all, this is a movie well worth checking out. I think the only thing wrong with this movie is the rating it received; there's probably enough swearing in this movie to have earned it a PG-13 rating. Highly recommended.

The Breakfast Club/16 Candles
Released in VHS Tape by Universal Studios (14 October, 1997)
MPAA Rating: R (Restricted)
Director: John Hughes
Starring: John Hughes, Emilio Estevez, Judd Nelson, Molly Ringwald, and Ally Sheedy
Average review score:

Wow - what a jump.
Okay, the Breakfast Club is by no means a great movie - as I said in another review of it, its the cinematic equivalent of cotton candy - but whatever, you need that from time to time. Just the same though, its atleast passable as a solid cinematic achievement. 16 Candles is not. It's obvious in 16 Candles that director John Hughes was new to the whole writing/directing thing for the movie is filled with holes, the most prominent one, his obvious desire to fill them all. Let me explain - some characters can just be secondary characters - you dont need to see the depth in a beauty queen at the tail end of the movie when you've spent the entire first 80 minutes of the film portraying her as superficial. Don't get me wrong, its not bad to give a beauty queen depth, but the chances of her suddenly falling in love with a geek 4 years younger than her is not only unlikely, its borderline impossible - Hughes is living in a fools paradise (and continues to do so in The Breakfast Club).

That said, the Breakfast Club is a much better movie, but again borderlines on impossible. This may have been applicable back in the 80's (I dont know, I didn't live in it) but its deffinately not now. I dont think teens have ever been so easily led, openly influenced, and free to give out there hearts as they are in this. Furthermore, some kids just aren't deep - thats reality - this is a movie, and it doesn't reflect that.

Bottomline, Breakfast Club is worth seeing and even buying, 16 Candles is worth seeing if you're a fan of the actors or director. I give 16 Candles a C- and Breakfast Club an A-

A naughty romatic high school comedy with great acting
Let's face it. We all went to high school where the socialites and the jocks ran the school while the rest of us were considered low class. We couldn't get respect at school or at home. The co-central character Samatha played brilliantly by Mollie Ringwald, wants to be sought after by the best looking boy in school and honored at home on the most important day of her life, her sixteenth birthday. The other co-central character Farmer Ted aka The Geek played by Anthony Michael Hall wants to be the high school stud but is hopelessly pure geek. Samatha and The Geek both end up obtaining all they ever dreamed of and more within 24 hours time. Heck of a deal. The movie is really enhanced with the continuous smart ... remarks of Samatha's little brother and the wild and sex crazy Long Duk Dong played by Gedde Watanable. Property and Casualty Insurance claims adjusters best avoid this movie but hey, the kids were only having fun.

I don't think the VHS movie tract is the original film score but I can't that say for sure. I watched the movie the second time with closed captions to catch even more of the jokes. There are plenty of visual jokes as well throughout the movie, too many to list.

An excellent movie that captures the spirit of the 80's!
The Breakfast Club and 16 Candles are both great movies that captures the feeling of the decade. I have watched both of these movies many times and they still continue to provide laughter and entertainment for my friends and I. So if your looking for a great movie to sit down and watch, then I recommend both of these movies!

Another Stakeout
Released in VHS Tape by Touchstone Video (13 August, 2002)
MPAA Rating: PG-13 (Parental Guidance Suggested)
Director: John Badham
Starring: Richard Dreyfuss, Emilio Estevez, and Rosie O'Donnell
Average review score:

An entertaing action/comedy Sequel.
When a Dangerous Hitman (Miguel Ferrer) has been sign to kill a Woman (Cathy Moriarty) is a murder witness to the mob. Then she escapes from the Hitman. Two inept Seattle Cops (Oscar-Winner:Richard Dreyfuss & Emilio Estevez) has been sign to look for the woman from her best friends (Dennis Farina & Marcia Strassman) at outside thier place but they are not alone, when they are teamed with assistant district attorney (Played with Penache by Rosie O` Donnell).

Directed by John Badham (Stakeout, Saturday Night Live, Short Circuit) made This film. Which is a fine Sequel, it wasn`t a hit like the first film. Still, Dreyfuss and Estevez are in this one, like the Original. This Sequel has funnier situation than the Original. Great fun. Panavision. Grade:A-.

Not as original, but just as good as Stakeout
This film is almost a carbon copy of the first Stakeout, with Dreyfus and Estevez excelling both in their comedy and dramatic playing. Madelaine Stowe (Dreyfus's eventual girlfriend from Stakeout)is missing here except for a small cameo, but Rosie O'Donnell more than makes up for it as District Attorney Gina who is thrown in at the deep end with these two crazy guys. Initially this disrupts the smooth working of their partnership, but eventually she is accepted and becomes one of the team.

The quality control is high as director John Badham and writer Jim Kouf from the original movie return to the fray with their original stars.

This movie has a simple plot, but the charming characters, witty script, and well-directed action sequences make it an enjoyable way to spend one and three-quarter hours.

one of my favorite movies...
O'Donnell, Dreyfuss and Estevez make a great team in this movie. It is an all around humorous flick. I think everyone will get a kick out of it.

Dreyfuss and Estevez's characters team up with O'Donnell to stakeout a place in Washington State, after a witness for a murder came out of an explosion alive (while she was under protection with the police to testify in that trial for the murder). Now that she's missing and presumed alive, they've narrowed down to stakeout this couple in Washington-whom they think would be a place that the witness would run to hide from the murderer and/or police.

The War at Home
Released in VHS Tape by Touchstone Video (01 June, 1999)
MPAA Rating: R (Restricted)
Director: Emilio Estevez
Starring: Emilio Estevez, Kathy Bates, and Martin Sheen
Average review score:

Emilio Does His Vietnam Movie
Emilio Estevez does a fine job as both star and director of this overlooked film. His real father Martin Sheen plays his father, and watching the two together is remarkable. This movie really makes you think about what it must have been like for Vietnam vets coming home profoundly changed, to a world that didn't change along with them, and no one really understood post-traumatic stress syndrome at that time in history. And that is the legacy of Vietnam - making it home alive was not the end of the war for those who fought. If you're a vet, you'll want to see this, and you'll want your kids and parents to see it too.

The War At Home 1996 w/Martin Sheen & Emelio Esteves
I just watched The War At Home. This story is very well written, acted & directed. It makes you care for all the characters, and understand what each one is feeling and going through. Not just with what is said, but more importantly, what is not said. The movie gives us a small glimpse of what the Heroic and Brave men went through after returning from the Vietnam War. I myself do not care for war movies, but I could not stop watching. I gave this review five stars because it truly deserves it! I also love that the story is character driven, and does not for one minute rely on special effects. There are a few scenes that were VERY tastefully done, and I did not need to look away once. I highly recommend it. Rarely do I cry during movies, but this really touched my heart, as it will yours. Martin Sheen, Emilio Estevez, Kathy Bates & Kimberly Williams really give great performances. Directed by Emilio Estevez.

This is awesome!
This movie blows me away! Martin Sheen and Kathy Bates, (my favorite actress,) both play roles totally unexpected and suprising as husband and wife.

The acting was believable of all characters, and it really makes you stop and think about the horrors that our soldiers had to endure in Vietnam, God bless them! This is a wake up call addressing our need to honor our vetrans and their families.

I highly reccommend this flick!!!

D3 - The Mighty Ducks
Released in VHS Tape by Disney Studios (17 March, 1998)
MPAA Rating: PG (Parental Guidance Suggested)
Director: Robert Lieberman
Starring: Emilio Estevez and Jeffrey Nordling
Average review score:

The Ducks Are At It Again......
The Mighty Ducks. Perhaps the best live-action series that has been put out by Disney to date. In this, the third movie in the series we see the Ducks receive scholarships to the prestigious Eden Hall Academy. At the same time, Coach Bombay has decided to move on and will be partaking in the Goodwill Games. In going to Eden Hall, the team acquires a new coach who is not as pleasant as Coach Bombay was. In fact, he could be best described as a nightmare. At the same time the Ducks bump heads with the championship varsity team. In the end the two square off in an excellent game of hockey. Leading up to the game, many of the typical hyjinks take place. Aside from the Ducks having their scholarhips on the line and other set-backs, the exchange of pranks between the two teams is simply classic. In the climatic third-period of the game the Ducks will have to prove why they are that quack-tastic. Will they do it?? I can't say, but D3 is a movie you don't want to miss. Disney has done it again with another great movie that anyone in the family can enjoy, so pick up today as you won't be disappointed.

Even none-hockey lovers will love "D3: The Mighty Ducks"!
First off, I must say this, I've never seen the first two Mighty Ducks movies and I'm not especially a hockey lover. But I must confess I thought this movie was terrific and fun! Mostly aimed for teenagers, this is a great movie to watch!

The whole team "Mighty Ducks" have won scholarships to prestigious Eden Hall: Charlie (Joshua Jackson), Goldberg (Shaun Weiss), Fulton (Elden Henson), Averman (Matt Doherty), Julie 'the Cat' (Colombe Jacobsen-Derstine), Russ (Kenan Thompson), Dwayne (Ty O'Neal), Luis (Mike Vitar), Ken (Justin Wong), Guy Germaine (Garette Ratliff Henson), Connie (Marguerite Moreau), and Adam (Vincent Larusso). But there are some changes for the team. First of all, one of the 'Basher Brothers' Dean Portman (Aaron Lohr) is not going to join them. But most important, their coach Gordon Bombay (Emilio Estevez) won't be coaching them anymore. Charlie can't accept that and even more can't accept their seemingly harsh new coach, Ted Orion (Jeffrey Nordling). The 'Mighty Ducks' have a big game ahead of them against the Varsity team 'Warriors' who are going to be hard to beat. Will they be able to beat them and show them who's the best?

With plenty of suspense and humor, "D3: The Mighty Ducks" is certainly worth the watch. Terrific acting done by the whole cast, including the notable actor Joss Ackland who plays Hans, the good friend and mentor to the 'Ducks'. The suspense during the hockey games were sometimes pretty intense, especially the last game between the 'Ducks' and the 'Warriors'. As for the humor, the movie was hilarious, I was laughing most of the time!

A few of my favorites parts are when the 'Ducks' play pranks on the Varsity team and when Bombay gives his little 'speech' to the board members of Eden Hall. And a few of my favorite lines is:

Cheerleader: Cheerleaders only. Are you a cheerleader?
Linda: Do I look like an idiot?

Connie: This ninja stuff makes you look, I don't know, how would you say...
Guy Germaine: Ruggedly handsome?
Connie: Amazingly stupid.

Dwayne (while swinging a lariat at one of the Varsity members): It would be more fun for me if you ran.

For parents, the movie is rated PG for the reason that there are some bad words sprinkled here and there. Other than that and the game of hockey being pretty rough, it's pretty good! I can't wait to watch the first two movies! I hope they're as good as the third one! If you haven't seen this movie, I highly recommend it!

EXCELLENT!
I love this movie! It is very funny. For all of us girls there are hot guys in it. Well anyway, this is an awesome movie! Buy it today and you won't be dissapointed!

The Mighty Ducks
Released in VHS Tape by Disney Studios (16 June, 1998)
MPAA Rating: PG (Parental Guidance Suggested)
Director: Stephen Herek
Starring: Emilio Estevez and Joss Ackland
Disney had an unexpected hit with this predictable comedy about a smug lawyer (Emilio Estevez) busted for drunk driving and ordered to coach a sad-sack team of hockey-playing kids as community service. The kids triumph over their sundry problems, and Estevez's character grows up a little. End of story. A perfectly harmless movie for kids and adults who are giving their brains a night off. --Tom Keogh

The first movie of the "Mighty Ducks" trilogy! 5 STARS!
When he was young, Gordon Bombay (Emilio Estevez) used to play hockey but when he blows a really big game, he quits. Now thirty, he's a lawyer who doesn't know anything about fair play or teamwork. When he gets arrested for drunken driving, he has to perform community service. And not just any community service, he has to coach hockey to kids! His team consists of Charlie Conway (Joshua Jackson), Greg Goldberg (Shaun Weiss), Dave Averman (Matt Doherty), Peter (J.D. Daniels), Gee Germaine (Garette Ratliff Henson), Jesse Hall (Brandon Quintin Adams), Connie Moreau (Marguerite Moreau), Dave Karp (Aaron Schwartz), and Terry Hall (Jussie Smollett). And they are an AWFUL team! Bombay hates the kids and doesn't try hard to coach them, and so of course the kids don't respect or like him at all. Will they ever be able to work as a team with Coach Bombay acting like the good coach he should be? And will they have enough time to make it to the finals against unbeatable team, Hawks? Also starring is Hans (Joss Ackland), Mr. Ducksworth (Josef Sommer), Fulton Reed (Elden Henson), Tammy (Jane Plank), and Tommy (Danny Tamberelli), Coach Reilly (Lane Smith), and Adam Banks (Vincent Larusso).

Great movie entertainment! I just love the whole Mighty Ducks trilogy! They teach great values about trust, teamwork, fair play, and as Coach Bombay used to say, 'all that other junk'. It's also very, VERY hilarious! Some parts you can just die laughing, for example when the kids get in trouble from the principal and are put under detention. The hockey games are pretty suspenseful and fun, too!

But there is a reason for the PG rating for this movie. Mostly it's because of language which at times is pretty bad. Also the kids in the movie are pretty naughty at times. I think the movie is best aimed for kids maybe 10 and up, great for adults, too.

Then of course there are the other two "Mighty Ducks" films. "D2: The Mighty Ducks" have Bombay again coaching the Ducks, this time there are going up against the world as Team USA! Some of the hockey players aren't in this movie, but they get some new teammates. In my opinion (though it's a very hard choice), this movie is the best of all three. "D3: The Mighty Ducks" has the Ducks getting a scholarship for Eden Hall academy. Their main adversary are the Warriors, the varsity team of Eden Hall. If you liked the first "Mighty Ducks", I highly recommend the next two sequels! I sincerely hope that Disney will have the whole trilogy on DVD soon!

ANOTHER WINNING GOAL CLASSIC FOR DISNEY!
I just love THE MIGHTY DUCKS flicks! I think they are some of the best flicks in the sports genre. This is the first in the saga. Emilio Estevez plays a hotshot, wise-cracking lawyer named Gordon Bombay. Bombay hates hockey and kids, even though he used to play hockey as a kid (that's one of the reasons why he hates both hockey and kids). When Bombay gets busted by the cops for drunk-driving, he has to be suspended from his career and do community service - particularly by coaching the "District 5" PeWee hockey team in Minnisota, where he lives.

Bombay first thinks the job of coaching the kids will be easy...since he thinks he knows all about hockey. But when he first meets the kids, he realizes that it's going to be a lot harder than he thought - the kids are wise-cracking, rough, street kids like him who are absolutely HORRIBLE at hockey! The kids all hate him; he hates them, too. And they can't win any games. But then, he learns how to be a good coach and the kids begin to like him. Of course, you'll probably guess who will win the big play off championships - their rivals happen to be the team that Bombay played on as a kid and their coach was Bombay's old coach.

Even though the plot is pretty predictable, it's still an awesome movie. And the plot is, in some way, different and unique than many others like it. The movie has a lot of hilarious parts in it. This is the kind of flick you can watch over and over again and never get bored of it. It's a great movie and another winner for Disney! Go buy it - the price is great!

GREAT MOVIE!
I love this movie! I would reccomend it to anyone who likes hockey. So buy it if you like hockey and you won't be dissapointed!

Judgment Night
Released in VHS Tape by Universal Studios (15 May, 2001)
MPAA Rating: R (Restricted)
Director: Stephen Hopkins
Starring: Emilio Estevez, Cuba Gooding Jr., and Denis Leary
Average review score:

Did I Miss Something?
This movie was horrible. Enough said. The lines were cheesy. The acting was poor. The story was horrible. The characters were poorly developed and about as deep as a mud puddle. AND, Dennis Leary is no villain. The only redeeming quality about this movie is the soundtrack. Forget the DVD, and buy the soundtrack. Seriously, save your money. This was no doubt a killer role for Emilio Estevez, in that it killed any chance of reviving his failing career. Cuba Gooding Jr. is lucky he was fresh enough a face for it to not stop his career dead in it's tracks. No disrespect to the positive reviews above, but consider yourself warned.

An smart well made action-suspense/thriller.
Four friends (Emilio Estevez, Cuba Gooding Jr., Stephen Dorff and Jeremy Piven) are going to a boxing match in Chicago and once they take the wrong turn at a traffic highway, going unexpectingly going to the ghetto side of Chicago. The four witness a murder from the inside of thier RV, once they seen it. The Leader of the gang (Played by Denis Leary in a strong performance) are running after the witnesses.

Fun, fast, entertaining film-directed by Stephen Hopkins (Predator 2, The Ghost and the Darkness). The script is well written, which is above average but the directing, acting and music from the film is first rate. Goodtimes DVD Quality is well done on the picture quality is well done (But doesn't respect the original aspect ratio of 2.35:1 widescreen aspect ratio) is at 1.78:1 widescreen anamorphic transfer. Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround Sound, which the film did came out on DTS back in 1993, the sound of the DVD is terrific, incredible use of sound all on five speakers plus at the subwoofer is excellent. A miss at the fall of 1993 but deserve a second look today. Originally Filmed in Super 35. Grade: B+.

Exciting Well Made Thriller.
Director Stephen Hopking(Predator 2, The Ghost and the Darkness) shows a lot of style technique in the film. Has a lot of good suspense and some thrilling moments. The film came out in 1993, in the fall, it was a big box office dispointment, at that time. Thanks to Demolition Man. The film has good performances by Emilio Estevez(Young Guns Movies, Repo Man), Cuba Gooding Jr.(Jerry Maguire, Instinct), Stephen Dorff(The Gate, Blade), Jemery Piven(The hit tv's show-Ellen), Peter Greene(The Mask, Pulp Fiction) but the real standout performance is Denis Leary(The Ref, Suicide Kings) is very good as the film tough street villian. Too bad Universal wasn't interested doing this DVD. Goodtimes quality is good, but they don't respect the original widescreen format 2.35:1 but instead in 1.78:1 WS/Format why? and the only good thing is Dolby Surround Soundtrack is Excellent. This film was overlooked, when it came out, it's deserve a second look today.
