Yes indeed, a thinking person's movie
It is hard to see past the frequent bouts of lovemaking that the two main characters engage in. And that may be why some viewers have a hard time with this film. Though the (...) scenes are central to the plot, that's not all this film is about. And I have to say, as far as (...) scenes go, these are well-filmed. They are realistic without being (....) Joe and Sissel are teenagers growing into adults. Their passion, through fits and starts, grows into love. Slowly, each learns about responsibility and failure. Some viewers may wonder about Sissel's strange behavior, just as Joe does. But I think she's bearing the brunt of her parents' recent break-up and her little brother's trouble with the broken family. All the while, Sissel's parents act frequently like children. I couldn't figure out why Joe, the boy from Brooklyn, was in Louisiana at all except that he was on "vacation." But who cares? I liked being able to think up my own various scenarios for his departure from New York to the South. The soundtrack was the best I've heard in a long time. I, like another reviewer, had some trouble with the dream sequences. But, they also gave me additional food for thought. I see very little meaningful symbolism used in films; this one's chock full of it. Enjoy.

unfairly criticized but not for everyone
although some find the langorous pace unbearable and the characters flaky this movie reminded me of a lazy teenage summer with an ex-girlfriend and i was just completely captivated by the mood and atmosphere of the film... this movie is just about teenage love and the wonderful laziness and freedom of summer... the dream sequences are a little much though... anyways i think this film is underrated...

An amazing movie, for intelligent people only
This movie was based on a short story by Ian McEwan. I suggest reading the story then seeing the movie, or vice versa. Either way you will understand the movie a bit better. But, this is an intelligent person's movie. The average person does not think deep enough while watching movies to ever, ever understand this one. Most people go to the movies to be entertained, not to think. Which is a fine thing to do but to be entertained while watching this movie you HAVE to think. This movie is filled with so much wonderful symbolism if you don't find the symbols and think about what they might mean you will hate this movie. Which is why most of the reviews here are from people who hate the movie because they didn't/couldn't understand it. Giovanni Ribisi is endearing as always here and Natasha Wagner plays the role of the beautiful bitch with flair. Look for the symbolism of the rat in the wall, the boiling records, the pink jacket, the red dress, the messy room, and see what you can intrepret from them. Basically it is a story of how love starts out with beautiful passion and red hot flames, then cools down to a loving friendship. It shows how these 2 teenagers deal with the changing of their relationship. What do you do when you realize there is more to having a relationship than just sex? It is a bittersweet story about something that happens to all of us who have ever been in love. The soundtrack is out of this world also, brilliant music. Movie=must see, music=must have (but only if you are willing to THINK)

Mind Ripper
Released in VHS Tape by Warner Home Video (30 January, 1996)
MPAA Rating: R (Restricted)
Director: Joe Gayton

Hmmmmm?
I found this film a bit boring to be honest and although Wes Craven had a little involvement, it was his son who produced this film. The whole thing was like ALIEN because of the environment and the acting was not all that good except for Lance Henriksen who has starred in so many top movies. MIND RIPPER is a film that I could'nt watch more than twice and a lot of people may find it a complete bore, but still, the F/X/ are not too bad.

Very surprising DTV horror flick , a lot of praise
I was extremely surprised at the high quality of this DTV (direct to video)horror flick. At first glance,I could almost guarantee myself I was not going to like it,especially having seen another similar awful film called The Fear recently. But then again, with a title that stupid,of course I was going to feel inclined to turn away.I mean it,what a stupid title,The Mind Ripper!Anyone who saw it with a title like that would instantly dismiss it as cheap pap.If they had given it the title The Outpost like over in America,I think a lot more people would have given this extremely pleasantly surprising little flick a chance. The story is original, well thought out, with characters you can really care about. It's amazing how much you end up feeling for the brother character, especially towards the end where he breaks down in tears while admitting his feelings to his sister. The monster is very impressive for the no doubt small budget the film had,and the running time is well adjusted at just over an hour and a half.If you come across this, please don't be put off by that stupid title, give it a chance,it's really worth seeing.

Mindripper- A very good movie with a very good actor
As I saw the movie "Mindripper", I was very surprised, that an actor can so good act the role of Thor. I think, Dan Blom was the very exact actor, who could acted the Thor. And I'm the opinion, it was not easy to act such a role. In my opinion, it was the best movie I saw.

The Mod Squad
Released in VHS Tape by Mgm/Ua Studios (04 April, 2000)
MPAA Rating: R (Restricted)
Director: Scott Silver
Starring: Claire Danes, Giovanni Ribisi, and Omar Epps
Julie Barnes (Claire Danes), Pete Cochrane (Giovanni Ribisi), and Lincoln Hayes (Omar Epps) have one thing in common: They're young adults on the wrong side of the law, arrested for crimes of robbery, grievous bodily harm, and arson. Taken in by mentor and father figure Captain Adam Greer (Dennis Farina), they are assigned to a special task force working undercover for the police--the logic being that these kids can get into the hip young establishments that the older, more cynical officers can no longer infiltrate. Ill-suited to each other and chastised by their peers, this rogue squad is forced to come together when they uncover a seedy world of police corruption. Not knowing who to turn to, the kids are left with their wits and street cunning (they're not allowed to carry guns) to overcome mounting odds against their survival.

With Hollywood facing increased pressure in 1999 to curb its screen violence, this film arrived with perfect timing. The only problem is the film was aimed at an audience that never saw the early-1970s TV series that inspired it, and this dubious recycling resulted in paltry returns at the box office. Nevertheless, this is an enjoyable action movie with some noteworthy performances--especially from Omar Epps, who shines with strength and vulnerability, like a young Laurence Fishburne. The energetic camera work and throbbing soundtrack also stand out, along with some retro styling and a plot that's refreshingly free of excessive violence or gratuitous special effects. --Jeremy Storey

Negative Stars Apply
First of all, Peggy Lipton's Julie would have whipped Claire Danes' Julie two times over and thrice on Sunday. How such a cool TV show could go bad as a movie boggles the mind. Ribisi's a great actor, but he's totally miscast at Pete. Same goes for Omar - not the Linc I had in mind AT ALL!!

Seriously, those of us who actually paid money to see this dribble weren't going in for Masterpiece Theatre. What we got was the thrill of telling everyone we know that we paid to see one of the worst films of all time. Yippee.

more like 2 in a half
this movie has 3 good leads in the roles of Julie, Pete and Linc. but theres some funkyness and stupidity in some of this one, especially in Michael Lerner's Howard character, the man who dances with Omar Epps. Giovanni Ribisi is the stand out here as Pete, hes crazy and likable. my favorite scenes with him are teh scene with the carwash and the ones where he has the gun, hes so great with the gun, Claire Danes looks delicious in her black undies and Epps is buffer then ever. a good view and I having seen the tv show its based on though I hear its kinda good and corny.

Giovanni Ribisi is my God
Frankly, as a fifteen year old girl, I am going to write this review from my perspective. I do not care about Claire Danes' underwear or about that one other guy in the group - all I have to say is that, since Giovanni Ribisi is my God, I love this movie. He is not only attractive, but talented as well, and makes this movie hilarious and at the same time meaningful. I don't know how he does it - maybe it's the naive facade all his characters have - but in this movie, he rocks, so therefore, IT rocks.
