Mikhail Baryshnikov's Stories from My Childhood Vol 7: Ivan and His Magic Pony
Released in VHS Tape by Films By Jove (01 January, 1997)
Average review score:

The memories...oh the wonderful memories!
Great for kidsWow, this brings back memories. This movie is really remarkable, and has the feel of old folklore that Disney has yet to figure out. It is really different, and will thoroughly entertain anyone under the age of seven (maybe older). It's been a while since I've seen it, so I can't remember if the acting and script are cheesy, but I do remember that it was visually beautiful and fun to watch.
I highly recommend the entire seriesI am the mother of a 4yr. old and i am collecting the "Stories from my childhood" series, and each and every one is a work of art with wonderful, meaningful stories. A great option for parents who are tired of the average Disney fare and want truly wonderful classics for their children.

Burden of Proof
Released in VHS Tape by Anchor Bay Entertainment (15 January, 1996)
Average review score:

First-Rate AdaptionThis is a very good interpretation of the Scott Turow book. 'Burden of Proof' has always been my favorite work from this author. This time Turow makes a lead character out of a terrific supporting character from the previous book ('Presumed Innocent'), the elegant and cunning defense lawyer Sandy Stern. It has a fairly complicated plot which must be handled judiciously in a movie to be understandable, and this movie does it well. The casting is top-notch, especially for Stern and his brother-in-law, who is under federal indictment. This is definitely worth your time.
Surprisingly entertainingAt first glance this looks like a vehicle for between work actors. You spend the first few minutes saying where have I seen that person before. Then all of a sudden you are into the story. You say "Oh yeah I have seen that formula." They give you enough overt clues to predict ahead of time what is going to happen. Then somewhere along the line the actors melt out and the characters are real. Every so often they throw in a ringer or a herring. And just as you figure it out "you are wrong!"
The whole experience is over too soon and your are left thinking what could of happened "if only."

Holiday Adventure of a childhoodI remember this anime from my own childhood, its a story about the daughter of a zoo manager/ exobiologist called Alice who travels to the third planet off Aldebaran to find many interesting and novel animals for the zoo. One of the most memorable is the twoheaded "Talkingbird" who says "Talkingbird is clever and wise"(I'm not sure about the exact translation in this version - this is just what I remember) but soon the bird starts to talk about the original three astronauts and an interesting story soon unfolds as they go to find out about it, with shady characters on their tracks they find jewel-covered turtoises and flowers which record and display their surroundings... All great stuff. A memorable story and one of the best soviet animation films, worth a watch to anyone interested in what kind of animation was created behind the Iron Curtain. The story is based on a children's story by Kir Bulytchev and he actually wrote seven or more stories, its just a pity they didn't animate the rest I guess. Hopefully someone will pick up the yarn, RTBS.

Please re-release this movie on DVD!This movie was easily one of the greatest movies of the 80's. The fact that it hasn't been re-released yet when so many other less profitable movies have been, is a shame. If there was anyone involved in the decision making process at the big movie companies that grew up during the 80's, this movie would already be out. PLEASE RELEASE IT!
Johnny Depp and Hector Elizondo are a couple of the main characters, and even Andrew Dice Clay, along with tons of actors before they were huge. Everytime I bring this movie up I wish, I had a copy to show to people that haven't seen it.

This is a DVD MustI loved this movie, and I'm counting the days until it's on DVD. What's the hold up?
The movie itself is just beautiful. The animation has a unique style that is very pleasing and calming. You can call Disney movies "classic" all you want, but these films from Russia truly deserve that title.
Ivan and his Magic Pony is about just that. Ivan and his two older brothers set out to the hay fields to catch whoever has been stealing their hay. The thief turns out to be a magic horse who grants 3 gifts to Ivan since the horse cannot shake him off. Ivan is granted 2 grand horses and 1 pony who can talk. Ivan sells the 2 horses to the Czar and is given the job of heading up the stables. Ivan then goes on a few fantastic adventures appointed by the Czar. I don't want to spoil the rest because you just have to see the film to truly appreciate it.
All the CGI and multi-million dollar animation in the world could never stand up to this movie or some other rare ones that have been lost through the passage of time, i.e. The Mouse and His Child.
