Love Is a Gun
Released in VHS Tape by Lions Gate Home Ente (30 November, 1994)
MPAA Rating: R (Restricted)
Director: David Hartwell
Average review score:

love is a gun
new guy on the job; forensic photographer, dabbling in model photo's after hours.

His current girl friend is "getting old"; thus, enters a new "love interest" (equally manipulative/controlling). Now, add in his implication into the murder of his "new love interest";. . . a stressful ride over the edge !

This seamless, stress-filled descent into insanity may be "live, or Memorex ?"

Not Hitchcock...Hartwell
Ignore the cheesy title - David Hartwell has delivered a powerhouse of a suspense. Granted, the performances are dated, (Eric Roberts and Kelly Preston have definitely honed their skills more since this film was made.) However, watch the movie through to the end at least once...have a little faith. With its refreshingly twisted plot, "Love Is A Gun" restores my faith in the modern suspense.

The best film I've ever seen!!!
This movie is, quite possibly, the best movie ever made...I mean, there is a lot to say for some of the classics, but I have never sat on the edge of my seat for so long. After watching this movie half a dozen times, I still can not get enough!

Stepmom/My Best Friend's Wedding

Double The Jules, Double The Fun
Julie Roberts does and excellent job acting for simply two great movies. If you want to laugh our loud with a smart and funny romance story you want to watch My Best Friends Wedding. Basically its about Julianne (Julie Roberts) trying ever dirty trick in and out of the book to stop her best friend of 9 years from marrying his newly met fiancial Kimmi (Camoran Diaz) because she suddenly realizes that she truely loves her best friend. Its loaded with a bunch of hilarious scenes that actually looks really natural and its enticing to find out what really happens because things always change to Julianne's plot working and failing and ending with a surprise twist end. Stepmom is a lot more serious since its drama and sadder but still a great movie with funny scenes and it deserved that oscar. Its about this stepmom (Julie) who as a younger person is more n'sync with the culture of the two stepkids she now has and is competing with their more naturally likeble real mom (Susan). Beyond fighting over kids the story gets more interesting with the stepmom having conflicts with taking care of her stepkids and her high-paying job while the real mom has cancer. And it all ends with sad yet heart-felt end. All and all both are great movies with great acting and smart plot that will make you want to watch it more than once and continously enjoying it when you do.

ONE OF THE BEST!
This movie rocks! It's kinda sad, but in my opinion, it's one of the best out there. Julia Roberts as Isabel, the new stepmother of 2 kids who obviously don't like her. She tries to get them to like her. Does it happen? Watch the movie!

Very true to the book...
A big Catherine Cookson fan, I was able to borrow this
video from my library. An excellent portrayal of the
lovely Tilly's life of hardship and love. I too would
like to see videorecordings made of the 2 sequels, Tilly
Trotter Wed and Tilly Trotter Widowed.

Please do a follow up
I enjoyed Tilly Trotter so much - I have been an avid reader of Catherine Cooksons works since I was a child living in England. I have lived in the U.S. for ten years and have just now found this site which enables me to buy the videos. I have read all of the Tilly Trotter Trilogy and would love to know if the BBC plan to make a follow up video i.e. Tilly Trotter Weds and then the final book of the Trilogy (cannot remember the title but I think it is where she moves to America). It would be fantastic if these books were to be made into film. Thankyou.

Two of Julia's Best Movies!
"Stepmom" and "My Best Friend's Wedding" are two of my favorite Julia Robert's videos. They are also my two personal favorites when it comes to chick flicks!

In "Stepmom", Julia Roberts battles to become liked by Susan Sarandon's children. Roberts is in love with Sarandon's ex-husband and eventually becomes engaged to him. Sarandon's two children, do not like Roberts even though she tries hard to be friendly. Will she befriend the children? Will Sarandon and Roberts ever understand each other? Get this movie and find out!

In "My Best Friend's Wedding", Juila Roberts is best friends with Dermot Mulroney. When Mulroney tells Roberts he is engaged with Cameron Diaz and is getting married in 4 days, Roberts makes a plan to get her newly found love back! Will Roberts succed in her develish plan to steal Mulroney back? You will have to watch the video for yourself!

Superb Movie on Amish Lifestyle
I've studied about the Amish for years and was very impresed with this film. All thoug I knew most of the information that was givin about them.I thought that the aded protrayl of the "Outsiders"(what the Amish call us Englisheres) was very good.Thoguh it might not have the same pep as Wittness did with Harrison Ford.
It has more information on what the Amish go through when personal tragedy striks.
The movie is like able and the protryal that Sally-Sal( Lolita Davidoich) is excelent.
The Amish are strict when it comes to gender positions. As this was shown in the movie.Where the sherrif asks Sally to dress more plain and not in such a low cut beautifel two piece out fit she was wearing earlier when the first met.
In fact the sheriff was suprised that Sally was sent over to Lancasater becaouse she was a women.Again another sign that the Amish still are not quite as comfterbul with wemon having more postion.
Even so this is an excallent movie. It shows how Sally's almost none exsints information about the Amish grows through the film. And how she becomes friends with Patty Duke's character Annie.

Good look at Amish People
This is a good look at Amish people. I have visited the Lancaster, PA area. If one is interested in the Amish this tape portrays some of what happens, for instance there is one scene where the "English" (tourist) is trying to take pictures of the Amish. Picture taking is frowned upon based on the scripture in

Exodus 20:4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth etc

Harvest of Fire
Since I grew up in an area heavily influenced by the Amish way of life, I have first hand knowledge of the authenticity of this movie. However, authentic as it may be, it is also very entertaining as some real truths of life are revealed from both sides of the cultural differences. I think it was a movie with no agenda other than truth.

It is a must see for anyone serious about finding peace in this troubled world. I have seen it 4 times now and am purchasing it because it has helped me re-order my own priorities in life.

Space Camp
Released in VHS Tape by Anchor Bay Entertainment (04 August, 1998)
MPAA Rating: PG (Parental Guidance Suggested)
Director: Harry Winer
Starring: Kate Capshaw and Lea Thompson
SpaceCamp shares a striking similarity to Ron Howard's Apollo 13--it's about NASA trying to bring some people down from outer space, except in this case 13 represents the median age of those in danger. Kate Capshaw plays Andie, who throws off the curve by being on the high end of that age scale. She's always a bridesmaid, but never a bride in the shuttle program, an astronaut doomed to play wet nurse to a gaggle of kids enrolled in NASA's summer program. Of course, out of all these teeming hordes of children (there don't appear to be any particular qualifying standards to attend the camp), the film focuses on five. Kathryn (Lea Thompson) is a hopeful pilot who wants to be at the controls of the shuttle one day. Tate Donovan plays Kevin, a daft young carouser who is supposed to be so incorrigible he's winning (he's not). Kelly Preston is Tish, a valley girl with a photographic memory, and Larry B. Scott is Rudy. Rudy's there to meet the Hollywood quota for capsule diversification, but neither he nor Trish does much. Most oddly, Joaquin Phoenix is Max, the young Star Wars nut whose brain and fast friendship with a NASA robot get them all sent into orbit. It's unfortunate that a lot of topical swear words are peppered throughout SpaceCamp, as it could operate as a diverting night's watch for the young astro-nut in your house. Director Harry Winer, who rose from television and sank back to television after this film stiffed over the summer of 1986, directs in 20-minute blocks like he's pacing himself for a commercial break. Once the embarrassing, extremely '80s, opening 40 minutes are dispensed with, however, and the crew accidentally gets blasted into space, the effort to return home is involving, even if it is pretty silly. SpaceCamp won't win any merit badges for script writing, acting, or direction but it's got the right li'l Camp NASA spirit. --Keith Simanton

why is space camp $39
Ok, So it was a good movie in the 80's....You can get other classics like Stripes, Caddyshack and Ghostbusters for under $20....why can't they release Space Camp at the same price???
Just a note for the movie industry to review....

Space Camper
I say this is a must see for soon to be trainees or fromer trainees. Movie is far fecthed but is a good laguh. It tells only a short story of what camp is really like not even close.

Space Camp
I just got off the phone with the vendor VIDAYO in California.
I never dealt with nicer people. I think I will be ok and I will get my moneys worth now. I had sent them an e-mail and they called me within the hour that I sent the e-mail! Hows that for service? And the very knowedgable gentleman helped me by contacting the manuafacturer of the Space Camp title, and procured me a non-defective copy. I should be receiving it within the next couple of weeks!

Yes, Space Camp is one of my all-time favorite movies, which bring me back to the days of my youth. If you love movies about space technology then this is definitely a movie you want in your collection!!! And get it from VIDAYO in California. They are prompt courteous and professional!

What a Girl Wants
Released in VHS Tape by Warner Home Video (05 August, 2003)
MPAA Rating: PG (Parental Guidance Suggested)
Director: Dennie Gordon
Starring: Amanda Bynes, Colin Firth, and Kelly Preston
Fresh-faced Nickelodeon starlet Amanda Bynes stars in What a Girl Wants as Daphne, a 17-year-old girl in New York City who's spent her life pining for her absent father, a British lord named Henry Dashwood (Colin Firth) whom her mother (Kelly Preston) met during wilder days in Morocco. Tired of waiting for him to come to her, she decides to head to London where Dashwood is launching his political career--which could be derailed by her fun-loving, free-spirited attitude. Will her father choose the daughter he's never known or a position in Parliament? The plot of What a Girl Wants is ridiculously contrived, but the movie rides on the chemistry between Bynes and Firth. When, under Daphne's influence, Dashwood tries to break out of his stuffy shell and rediscover his inner rebel, the movie really starts to have fun. --Bret Fetzer

Colin Firth Fans Will Love This Delightful Fairy Tale Film!
"What A Girl Wants" is a delightful, fairy tale romp of a film. If you are a fan of Colin Firth's and don't mind very lite-entertainment, this is a must-see.

Once upon a time in Morocco, circa 1970-something, a young British Lord, Henry Dashwood, (Colin Firth), met American beauty, Libby Reynolds, (Kelly Preston), a young rock singer, and the two fell madly in love. A Bedouin tribal chief married them by the light of an African moon. Blessed with thoughts of 'happily ever after' they returned to London, the noble Dashwood family manse, and the real world of the British upper-classes. Dashwood retainers and advisors encouraged Libby, a commoner, to leave her husband for his own good, his future career, etc. After all, she was terribly unsuitable. And so Libby left England, with no explanation and returned to New York City, a walk-up apartment in Chinatown, and a career as a singer.

Fast-forward 17 years. Apparently Libby left London with more than her luggage. She is the mother of a lovely and spirited teenager, Daphne, (Amanda Byrnes). Daphne Reynolds has almost everthing a girl could want. She's smart, caring, beautiful and possesses great flair. She has completed high school and has college and a lifetime of possibilities ahead of her. Her relationship with her Mom is open and loving, if somewhat unconventional. But she feels incomplete. Daphne knows all about her father, whom she has never met but has always longed for. Dashwood is totally unaware of his offspring's existance. Daphne always believed that someday her father would discover he had a daughter and come for her. After all these years of no-show Dad, she finally decides to take-off for London and make herself known to him. And the fun begins.

Dashwood is engaged to a snobby, aristocratic bore, whose baggage includes a teenage daughter, even more boring than her mother - if that is possible. He has also resigned from the House of Lords and is beginning his political career running for office in the House of Commons. Enter Daphne. Surprise!

The interaction and chemistry between Amanda Byrnes and Colin Firth make the film fun. The wicked stepmother and step-sister-to-be are terrific villains. You'll want to hiss and boo everytime they appear on screen. And Eileen Atkins, as Lady Dashwood, Henry's Mum, is wonderful. As her new found granddaughter hugs her, Atkins says, "No hugs, dear. I'm British. We only show affection to dogs and horses." Oliver James, who plays Ian Wallace, Daphne's love interest, is charming and has a great voice. He's in a British rock band...what else?? The sound track is also quite good.

"What A Girl Wants" will never receive an Oscar nomination. If you miss this film it is no big loss, unless you're a Colin Firth fan. This is an unusual role for him and he pulls it off really well. Great eye-candy! I enjoyed it and would recommend it for a few hours of fun entertainment.

Sweet movie!
Amanda Bynes stars as a young American girl named Daphne whose mother fell in love with an artistocratic young Englishman in her youth but who was separated from him by family and social pressures. Daphne has dreamed of being reunited with her father, and finally she takes things into her own hands and decides to run away to England to find him. That's not difficult, as he is running for Parliament and he is campaigning everywhere. Daphne discovers that he is soon to be married to a snobby young woman with an equally snobby daugher, but she doesn't let that deter her as she pursues a relationship with her father. Predictably, this high-spirited young American is not well-suited to life among the aristocracy and lots of mini-disasters occur as her father tries to introduce her to English society. The potential step-sister and step-mother do everything they can to undermine Daphne's efforts, but predictably this movie has a happy end. This is not Academy Award stuff, but it does make for a pleasant evening's viewing.

great movie
I love this movie! Amanda Bynes, Colin Firth, and Kelly Preston, etc., made this movie spectacular! You can't forget the crew who made this movie great! Listening to the commentaries of Amanda Bynes and the directors and writers, it made me think about it even more, and like it even more. Not knowing that some of the scenes were not even buildings but tents that looked so much like an old British building. And not knowing that Amanda was only 16 at the time, they had doubles for her. It's kind of weird that they would make so many rules for young actors and actresses, that it seems to be worthless and odd. The crew was amazing! The sound, camera, actors, and actresses, digital crew, hair and makeup (AMAZING), and the clothes team--were also FANTASTIC! It was so much fun to watch! Also, Kelly Preston did her own singing! She was GREAT!

Great movie-Amanda Bynes & Colin Firth kept me laughing
I'm a fan of Colin Firth but have only seen him in characters that are on a more serious side. Colin & Amanda Bynes had me laughing, they worked so well with each other. I bought the movie before seeing it because of Colin Firth. I really thought it would be some teen movie but was completely surprised how much I loved the movie. I bought the movie 4 days ago & I've watched it everyday, sometimes more. I love it when Colin tries on his leather pants & rocks out in front of a mirror. My son's girlfriend wants to borrow it, I just don't want to let it go. I also bought Bridget Jones Diary the same day, which I had on VHS. Colin Firth needs more comedy roles, he played this one so well. Kelly Preston was so beautiful & I was surprised of what a beautiful singing voice she has, she was excellent as she is in any movie she's in. The entire movie had so many great funny characters. Excellent movie, that's my opinion anyway.

A movie without violence, bad language, or bare everything??
Yes this is a predictable, happily ever after film. It is nothing like the awful Princess Diaries (which this film has been compared). Because of this comnparison I didn't bother seeing "What a girl Wants" in the theater. I am pleased to say that this is one of those films which is just fun to watch. It wasn't meant to change the world but is entertainment that the entire family can see together. Amanda Byrnes and Colin Firth are wonderful together as father and daughter. Kelly Preston is beautiful in the part of Daphne's mother. In my opinion this film is more like a cross between: Cinderella (because of the future evil step-sister), Snow White (because Amanda finds her prince), and Parent Trap (because....can't say because that would be giving the end away).
