Starring: Barnard Hughes and Martin Sheen
Average review score:

Hauntingly Heartwarming!A charming, enchanted tale of deeply-bonded love between father and son, a relationship that is sometimes salty, sometimes sweet, but nonetheless unconditional. Believably presented on film by actors Sheen, Hughes, et al. Uniquely directed with a cozy stage-like quality, it is a magnetic piece that has the ability to draw the viewer into every scene. Beautifully well-done and highly recommended!
I realised HOW & THAT I loved my father after seeing DAThe strong silent stoic type was Da and the adopted son could never 'get into' his father's head, understand his motivations, fathom his thinking, powerful scenes, including when the son tries to make it with a local 'easy' girl, Da passes-by introduces himself to the girl and suddenly this girl is a person and how could the son think of doing the 'manly thing', ! Saw the play also, though a long time ago and felt the film surpassed it.

Acting At It's FinestMartin Sheen and Blythe Danner give stellar performances in this gripping story of a family torn apart by infidelity. A MUST-SEE for those who appreciate drama and fine acting.
Heart wrenching, but spirit liftingI saw this movie when I was little, loved it then, but have come to appreciate it more with age. It is a must see for men and women, especially for men with children from another relationship. It holds a special place in my heart and I believe that everyone must see this movie.

Great eary Martin Sheen movieThis is a moving film starring a very young Martin Sheen. Set at the end of WW2 Sheen comes home an older and wiser man. How he and his mom and dad adjust to his return is very well told. Some excellent soundtrack music is more than matched by excellent dialogue and some wonderful photography.
Fantastic movie! This movie features Jack Albertson and Patricia Neal in brilliant portrayals of middle aged parents trying to cope with the realities of their own dysfunctional family. Sheen is also superb as an unwilling part of this messed up family. This is a must see for adults who like thoughtful, memorable plays!!!

A Journey For Anyone Who Dares To DreamEveryone who has walked the face of this earth has at one time in his or her life, dreamed of becoming an extraordinary person. It is in our nature to dream of growing into something unique and beautiful. The journey of life is and will never be an easy voyage. Some will fall...and some will succeed; It's up to the individual to turn that dream into a reality. In this movie BEYOND THE STARS, Eric (Christian Slater) has his dream in sight and is willing to do anything to one day accomplish it. Eric wants to walk among the stars and touch the face of the moon. When he is sent to his father's house in Ceder Bay Oregon for shooting a model rocket through a school window; He realizes that an ex-astronaut (Martin Sheen) is living in the same town as his father. To Eric this man is a legend, someone who has been where he one day wants to go. Eric meets a beautiful girl who just so happens to know this living hero. But Paul Andrews (The Astronaut), is nothing but; He is now a drunk, who wants to be left alone and never wants to talk about his time away from our home. Eric is severly hurt but eventually decides to do what ever it takes to be Paul's friend. Eric gets his break when Mr. Andrews offers him to help in constructing a grand greenhouse. Knowing that he won't get any money, Eric still agrees to help him. And through this decision they grow as true friends and there friendship eventually brings Eric and his father closer than they've ever been before. What Eric doesn't know is that some years earlier on Paul's last mission to the moon; He stumbled upon something magical buried within a crater. And as he was attempting to uncover the ancient relic a heavy cloud of radiation caught up with him, taking a piece of his life as it passed by. Paul knew that he was poisoned and that it was too late to escape the wrath of the deadly cloud; So he ordered his men to safely lock the hatch to the pod. They had to set helplessly, knowing that through the passage of many years the radiation would eventually take the rest of him. Paul decided in the dark of the lunar surface that the relic would be his and that no one would ever find out - that is, until Eric comes along. This story is so inspiring. It asks so many important questions and shows us that friendship is an important part of life; Without it this world would be an empty place. This movie in a way models our own life - We all dream - We all want our privacy - And we all question our own existence. BEYOND THE STARS is a film that will forever live within the hearts of every dreamer. It has shown me to never let go of a dream - And to never deny friendship - Both are extremely powerful and vital to every human being. So friend, if you are down and need to be lifted up beyond the stars - Find this movie, or buy it whenever it is re-released.

Sleeper hit that took on Thatcher's BritainLezli-An Barrett's fantastic debut film attacks the culture of Conservative concealment that was rife in Eighties Britain. Furthermore it intelligently counter-balances the argument by highlighting the faults in union practices and attitudes.

Message To Daughter/Catholics
Released in VHS Tape by Brentwood Home Video (25 August, 1998)
Starring: Martin Sheen
Average review score:

Thought provoking film of Traditional Catholicism. For anyone interested in Catholicism and Traditional Catholicism in particular this film will provide an insight into the motivations of those pushing for change within the Church and of those holding fast to traditional beliefs. Sheen plays the part of an emissary from the mother house of an order of monks that has a monastery off the coast of Ireland. His mission is to coax or coerce the Abbot into departing from the true faith in an effort to be more in line with modern ecumenism. To the chagrin of the mother house and to the Church in general, the monks at this island monastery have held fast to Traditionalism and to the Latin Mass and are the last source of this Mass being held in public. The characters are substantive and the acting is excellent. Sheen's character is played almost matter of factly - giving the movie an unsettling feeling that might not have been achieved had the part been overplayed. Catholics is a film that depicts the recent history of the Church circa 1973, when the film was produced, and also turns out to have been somewhat prophetic in depicting events taking place within the Church in 1999.
