A Mother From NJ
This movie had everything in it. Cheryl Ladd made me laugh and cry as a mother of 2 twin girls who meet and falls in love with gorgeous Michael Nouri who is a widower with 3 children. The doctor played by Nouri and the newscaster played by Ladd were the typical couple in the end who had a hard time bringing to families together and then adding in two more.(They had twins in the end)

Awesome book, awesome movie!!!
Very heartwarming movie, just like the book, no disappointments what so ever!!! Although the descriptions of the characters differ somewhat in the movie, the movie does not miss a beat and does not take away from the original story. A good movie to curl up on the couch to.

The Thin Blue Line
Released in VHS Tape by Anchor Bay Entertainment (26 September, 2000)
MPAA Rating: R (Restricted)
Director: Errol Morris
Starring: Randall Adams and David Harris (III)
This landmark award-winning documentary, which revolutionized the form and helped acquit an innocent man of murder, came about almost by accident. Errol Morris had already directed such offbeat documentaries as Gates of Heaven (concerning pet cemeteries; a favorite of Roger Ebert's) and Vernon, Florida, which touchingly portrays the small town's eccentric inhabitants. He'd intended to travel to Texas to make a film about the criminal-psychiatry expert James Grigson, or "Dr. Death" as he came to be known for his frequent testimony against defendants, who were often then sent to death row. When Morris discovered that the doctor was involved in the trial of Randall Dale Adams, a man who, it seemed, had been falsely accused of the highway murder of a police officer, he decided that Adams's story was the real one to tell. Morris's innovative use of repeated dramatization, multiple points of view, talking-head and phone interviews, and symbolism--in concert with Philip Glass's haunting music--establishes that a combination of communitarian zeal and overly eager testimony persuaded the jury to find Adams, a "drifter" from the Midwest, guilty of the crime, instead of his underage (and, for the death penalty, ineligible) acquaintance, David Harris, who had a criminal record. The "thin blue line" of police officers separating the public from chaos--as the judge, quoting the D.A. in the case, has it--destabilizes in Morris's world and puts people at risk of injustice as often as it protects them. After serving time for a sentence commuted to life imprisonment, Adams was freed, making Errol Morris his most talented advocate. --Robert Burns Neveldine

REQUIRED VIEWING
Over the years I have always made this required viewing in my Introduction to Criminal Justice courses; it helps to open some eyes. Despite the inherent human fallibility of our criminal justice system, somehow we manage to maintain the preconceived notion that it could never convict an innocent person--at least not of murder. The Adams case ranks very high on the list of miscarriages of American "justice," and this documentary does an exceptional job of showing (1) that Adams was indeed innocent and yet convicted of murder and sentenced to death and (2) that this sort of case can easily happen in a system operated by inept, corrupt, or simply mistaken human beings. Adams very easily might have been executed (as was Roger Keith Coleman, another innocent man), and his case should be studied--and this film viewed--by anyone who supports the death penalty in a system run by people.

Startling
Going into this film, I had no prior knowledge as to the most recent developments. I went into it expecting a manipulative, anti-cop documentary utilizing fancy storytelling and cinematography. The first half seemed to prove me right. Then we got to the three supposed witnesses. The bleached-blonde woman had mannerisms and expressions to the face that were undoubtedly that of a psychologically abnormal person. I've dealt with several individuals exactly like her and immediately knew she could not be trusted. Then we find out the circumstances surrounding her "testimony", which totally verified this. The African American man, who was in the other car, kept covering his face, while his eyes watered and he looked frightened. Any polygraph expert on the planet would have seen through this behavior even without his equipment. These two also had the telling habit of saying "I like helping the police; I have extra-ordinary memory." If this wasn't enough already, "Doctor Death" gives the accused an under 20 minute pseudoscientific personality evaluation, which is used to conclude he'd kill again. At the same time that was occurring, the very person who originally pointed the finger at him is out conducting armed robbery, attempted rape, and finally homicide, which hilariously he blames on the dead man for defending himself -- a common response from apathetic criminal minds. Morris caps all this off with the perfect ending: ... The fact that this director could so easily fool me early on, then gently change my mind shows just how talented he is. The film stands as damning evidence against Texas and southern "justice".

One of the damnedest documentaries I have ever seen.
I am a movie buff from Widener University, who bought this documentary on VHS as an afterthought while buying two other critically acclaimed docs, Streetwise and Gates of Heaven (both given 4 stars by Roger Ebert, who's like a second father to me). Although some people might not like the fact that this VHS version was pan-and-scan, the visual impact of the filmed interviews as well as the soundtrack still shines through. Anyone who wonders why so many people oppose the death penalty should see this film. People who have served jury duty (or are considering it) will also benefit. The Thin Blue Line not only shows how justice can miscarry all too easily, it makes its viewers get to know the interviewees all too well. Errol Morris's reconstructions of the different versions of Officer Wood's murder show up the inconsistencies of the witnesses' testimony so strongly that the real murderer, David Harris (who was only sixteen when he shot Wood)confessed to the crime. Of course by then Harris had nothing further to lose; he was already on Death Row for a subsequent murder. I would be surprised if Roger Ebert didn't raise his rating for this doc from 3 1/2 stars to four and include it in his list of "The Great Movies."

Bernie and Liz unfortunely fall in love and get married (much to the liking of Jane) everything goes well cause shortly after their marriage Liz gives birth to a son but it seem's the doctor's decide that Liz has to stay in the hospital for a while and when Bernie asks why they said that she must be tested for something but they never do mention to the overly concered husband. Well Bernie's mother said since he is mostly catholic (Due to his father's raising skills) and part time Jewish that she is glad that he married such a beautiful woman with a great daughter. Bernie has no trouble at all raising Alexender and Jane all by himself then one day Bernie is told to come down to the office and when he arrives right in front of him stands Jane's biological father and Bernie believes that custody should be his because he abanded his wife and daughter the man explains that it was a mistake and it will never happen again. Bernie drives down to the motel and is told to hide in the truck the police wait for a good 20 minutes the agent finally has Jane out of the motel and back in her father's arms. The rest of the story is simple and all ends well so don't worry!

Why isn't this available on video?!
I absolutely LOVED this movie. Such a pity that I cannot find it for purchase on VHS anywhere. It's an all-time great in terms of a love story mixed in with real life obstacles and teeth clenching suspense. Tracy Pollan is spectacular and made a fan of me in this film. Please tell me it will soon be available for purchase. I saw it on TV and want to see it again!

Nightwatch
Released in VHS Tape by Anchor Bay Entertainment (29 May, 2001)
MPAA Rating: R (Restricted)
Director: Ole Bornedal
Average review score:

Far superior to the American remake
Ole Bornedal's original 1994 Nightwatch has his 1998 American remake beat, hands down. The original is so much more restrained and controlled, the tautness of it practically hits you in the face. Unlike Nick Nolte's unabashedly hammy performance, the actor who plays the investigating cop here keeps a lid on his emotions and so his character is infinitely more credible. The pacing is tighter, the acting is just sparse enough--and therefore supremely effective--and the suspense, based on this minimalistic perspective, is that much more palpable.

The story of a young law student taking a job as a hospital morgue attendant, and subsequently encountering strange goings-on, including the appearance of the bodies of some suddenly dead girls--this film is justifiably counted as a top European thriller. Martin, the law student, is taunted by his buddy to engage in some pretty unconventional stunts; the convergence of Martin's experiences in the morgue with his ever-increasing out-of-control actions leads ultimately to a horrific confrontation.

It was interesting to see that Ewan McGregor, who played Martin in the remake, is amazingly close in appearance to the Danish actor playing the same role. McGregor was OK, but there again, he tended on occasion--no doubt pandering to American audiences--to emote just a bit too much. And rather than suffer through another of Josh Brolin's performances, catch Kim Bodnia as Martin's buddy. He shines.

There is really no comparison. This is the movie to watch, not the '98 remake.

Do not see the American Version....
if you have and thought it was only OK but could have been better than see this...the better version. This movie out shines the remake big time. The Acting here is so much more convinceing (at least I think so...they talk Dutch) and I felt scared when the nightwatchman was scared...he's kinda buff, so I felt like he could whoop butt unlike the sissy american actor so when was scared I was.

The direction in this version was better because it gives you the feeling someone is alway watching you and a more clastrphobic feel to this version that the american one lacks.

See this if you want a good mystery/suspence/thriller for a movie going experiance.

WARINING:
If you hate subtitles then stay clear.

A superior thriller
I did not see the American remake of this superior Danish thriller. Director Ole Bornedall knows how to created nerve wracking suspense and real shocking horror. The film starts slowly and carefully creates an atmosphere of dread. The clever screenplay has several interesting twist. A must see for any fan of intelligent thrillers- and for once a film truly worthy of comparison to the master- Hitchcock.

for anyone who likes this movie, you'll buy it regardless. however. it is in 16x9 format(standard), it is not the widescreen version. as far as special features go, it has an option for 5:1 digital audio. this feature is not accessable thru the "audio set-up" option, you have to go into "special features" befor you start the movie if you prefer to listen to it this way. other features include the theatrical trailer and about a 1/2 dozen different tv commercials promoting this movie. enjoy a very funny cheech as a "leading man"?

One of Cheech's Better Movies
I LIKE this one. Cheech plays, of course, a Mexican who ends up in Australia of all places, working in a Mexican Restaurant. He disappears on his partner, who throughout the movie pleads for him to return. Turns out he has been hired by an Australian lady whose father owns everything and who she wants to put down. She already has a boy friend who she plans to marry, but hires Cheech to impersonate her boy friend to her father, telling Cheech to be as obnoxious and crude as possible. Cheech does his best, but Dad overhears the deal and now knows what is going on. So he tells her he approves of her choice and asks, "when's the wedding?" Well this puts her in a strange position, and, as the story unfolds, she becomes more and more attracted to Cheech and less attracted to the man she was going to marry. He punches Cheech in the eye and she finds out some dirt on him and, well, I won't spoil the ending, but things workout and all ends well. Not a moving production, no earth shattering revelations, no profound statements, just a cute little movie that for awhile anyway, makes you laugh and for a little while helps you forget all your other troubles. Well worth a look.

you'll laugh your "culo" off
I hope I spelled that right...
I ordered the film from Amazon and am about half way thru watching it. I had to post this message now because I haven't laughed so hard in years as Cheech gives a Mexican wedgy to a bunch of upper crust Aussie stuffed shirts.
The rebellious daddy's girl (who is really as headstrong as her business tycoon father) is very well played by Emma Sams. As is the nerdy horse-loving cousin.
Although this movie isn't Citizen Kaine, you can still see some pretty good writing and insight into the main characters portrayed.
I'd recommend it to anyone with a sense of humor.

Mona Lisa
Released in VHS Tape by Anchor Bay Entertainment (08 May, 1996)
MPAA Rating: R (Restricted)
Director: Neil Jordan
Starring: Bob Hoskins, Cathy Tyson, and Michael Caine
You'll have to listen hard to catch all the dialogue in this dark, romantic film by director Neil Jordan. The Cockney accents are thick enough to spread on a crumpet. But it's worth the effort to plunge into the London underworld with tough but lovable thug Bob Hoskins. Just out of prison, he's given a job by his old boss (Michael Caine) as chauffeur to a gorgeous but chilly call girl (Cathy Tyson). For all his criminal experience, this guy is surprisingly innocent; when he develops a crush on the woman he's driving, it leads inevitably to tragedy. Hoskins is heartbreakingly good as this poor, thick sod, while Caine projects an oily malevolence. Tyson is also fine as a woman who has secrets of her own. --Marshall Fine
Average review score:

I suppose I'm a philistine, but I did not like it
I saw "Mona Lisa" because some critic I read said that it along with "The Long Good Friday" are very fine British crime films.
I saw and loved the "The Long Good Friday." The story was great and so was Bob Hoskins. So I plunked down the cash for "Mona Lisa."

What a disappointment it was. The acting is good, but the storyline manages to be simultaneously flimsy and exceedingly unpleasant. I like watching movies that take me away from reality, not ones that rub my nose in sordid things like the Soho vice world. As for being a crime drama, you probably could learn more about the British underworld by surfing the Internet for a few minutes. Other things I would knock it for is not ever explaining why the heavies in the film are trying to kill the hooker and Hoskins. Finally, Michael Caine may play a bad guy, but I think that he appears in all of five scenes, and that is not nearly enough screen time for him to make his presence felt.

If you love downbeat stories, rent this film from Blockbusters. Don't waste your money buying it like me (I'm giving mine away).

An introspection of London's dark side
Mona Lisa is an atmospheric , bitter and at the same time romantic film which grows on you as time goes by . Jordan displays London's underground society in a dark yet strangely tangible way . Hints and secrets are being constantly unfolded here with a sharp sensitivity . Life has let down our heroes . They rarely smile , even less often relax and enjoy themselfs . Their worries don't let them do so . There's a bizzare chemistry between Hoskins and the extremelly underrated Tyson which is undeniably affecting while Caine is also perfect as the pimp whose demands never seem to end .

WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO MAKE A GOOD FILM?
Can you make a good film? Maybe. Can I make a good film? Maybe. Can any of us make a good film? Maybe. What does it take to make a good film? Well, if you have a good screen play, great actors, knowledge of film making, a bit of luck and some talent, you may succeed. This film had it all and that is why it came out just fine. Of cause there were a few shortcommings but they were so little that I did not care about them. I liked the film in general and everything about it so much that I thought that the shortcommings just gave it a little extra flavor. Good show and I reccomend it to everyone.

Thomas the Tank Engine - Thomas' Trackside Tunes
Released in VHS Tape by Anchor Bay Entertainment (13 February, 2001)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Director: David Mitton
Sing along with six fun tunes all about your favorite Thomas & Friends characters. Lyrics and bouncing ball accompany six separate songs, including the rocking "Come for the Ride" and the Broadway-inspired "Accidents Will Happen." Other featured songs are "Donald's Duck," "Sir Topham Hatt," "Harold the Helicopter," and "Percy's Seaside Trip." Each song features a catchy melody with simple, repetitive lyrics that are easy to learn. The children's choir that performs the songs is quite capable, and their melodious sound is pleasing even after multiple screenings. Fast-paced vignettes of a model Thomas railway in action underscore each song's lyrics and captivate audiences three to seven years old. Also included on this 34-minute video are two Thomas stories. "Gordon and the Gremlin," narrated by Alec Baldwin, explores the possible existence of gremlins on one particularly eventful day on the railway. "Trucks," told by George Carlin, finds Sir Handel feigning illness to avoid a full day's work--a fib that carries some very serious consequences. Thomas & Friends fans will love this video and are sure to request repeated screenings. (Ages 4 to 7) --Tami Horiuchi

Thomas' Trackside Tunes
This tape was so-so. After seeing Sing Along Stories this tape was a whole lot more boring. The only two that have a good tune are Come for the Ride, and Accidents Will Happen. The stories aren't that very good either. Gordon and the Gremlin is dumb. Basicly things are happening and the engines says gremlins are about. The other story is from Rusty to the Rescue. The story is the same but with a different name.(They got the name from the Compleate Collection book.) Dispite the songs and stories this still gets a 3 out of 5. Of course your younger kids will love it. So I would bye it when there young or they won't like wathing it.

Like Sing-Along and Stories
Thomas' Trackside Tunes is one of my favorite Thomas videos. But like the title of my review, this video is "Like Sing-Along and Stories." Come For The Ride is a rock n' roll song. Dad enjoys that a ton! Accidents Will Happen is enjoyable, but in some moments it can be sort of scary. 34 Minutes of Running time is absolutely long to kids aged 6 months-12 months.
Thomas Trackside Tunes has "Gordon and the Gremlin" Story, when Gordon takes the VIP on A Rocky Trip!
The Story Trucks is exactly the same as Rusty Helps Peter Sam, Only a different title. This Is The End Of My Review.

Also okay.
After getting "Thomas the tank engine & friends: Sing-Along and Stories", I needed to find more Thomas songs and purchased this cassette too. Don't know why, but it never caught on as much as the other cassette. It is still very well done, with the accompanying lyrics displayed on the screen and very colorful, but I still have to cast my vote and say that the "Tank Engine and Friends" cassette is better.

THIS IS ACTUALLY EVEN BETTER THAN THE ORIGINAL!
THIS TIME, MICHAEL DUDIKOFF AND STEVE JAMES RETURN TO INVESTIGATE THE DISSAPEARANCE OF SOME MARINE SOLDIERS, WHICH LEADS THEM TO A RUTHLESS GANG OF DRUG PUSHERS. VERY VERY ENTERTAINING AND TO MY SUPRISE, IT IS ACTUALLY BETTER THAN THE FIRST FILM! THE FIGHTS AND THE PLOTS HAVE GOTTEN BETTER. THE FINAL FIGHT IN THIS FILM IS ABSOLUTELY SPECTACUALAR. MICHAEL DUDIKOFF IS DEFINITELY AT HIS BEST HERE. FOR FANS OF THE ORIGINAL, BUY THIS NOW!

The Best of the series
Michael Dudikoff and Steve James return for Action as they must stop a drugdealer from creating super-ninjas.this is the best of the series which contains humor and action to keep you intrested, but it's ok to buy if you love action movie, but if you love Art your better off renting.

GREAT MARTIAL ARTS SEQUEL
I enjoyed the first American Ninja but this is even more fly high kicking than the original. It has more hand to hand combat fights rather than sword fights. Also in this film Michael Dudikoff dus a great flying kick. This is worth more than ($)

Date with an Angel
Released in VHS Tape by Anchor Bay Entertain (21 May, 2002)
MPAA Rating: PG (Parental Guidance Suggested)
Director: Tom McLoughlin
Starring: Michael E. Knight, Phoebe Cates, and Emmanuelle Béart
Average review score:

Cates is the Angel in this movie....IMO.
Frankly the only Angelic creature in this flick that caught my eyes was Phoebe Cates.....who is stunningly beautiful in any role......Phoebe could have easily played the Angel...and she has the perfect acting skills to play any role. I give this movie 3 stars..because no one in their right mind would ever leave a totally fine babe like Cates....from Fast Times no less.
Phoebe Cates....is a Icon of Beauty even today...:D

On a wing and a prayer
No Phoebe Cates is the angle. This time Emmanuelle Beart is the angel.
The story is one of those strait forward situation comedies. As in "Heaven Can Wait" or more like "Meet Joe black", an angle on a mission is detoured when a satellite nicks her wing. She lands in a pool of a soon to be married musician (Jim). You know musicians; he is obligated to help the angle, yet he can not tell his fiancée (Patty), who of course suspects there is another woman. Naturally his friends find out and plan to get rich. And so on and so on.
Eventually the angle that by this time is enamored with Jim and vice versa is well and leaves. Patty who has been insulted and assaulted by Jim and the angle leaves also. To top it off maybe there was no angle. Seems Jim has a brain tumor. So how did everyone get in this situation and what is to become of Jim?

Land In My Pool Emanuelle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love this movie!!! I want an angel too!!! Emanuelle Beart is gorgeous!!! This movie did not get very good reviews when it came out back in 1987, but I believe that it is a great movie! It just makes you feel good. What else is there to say!
