In a Child's Name

Torture
Based on a true story, this sad film is about a lumpy, psychotic dentist who does drugs and beats women. The plot centers around the dentist's third marriage, which begins with a cozy honeymoon that ends with a crazy fit of spousel abuse. The whole film makes you want to hit someone. An added treat are the dentist's braindead, zombie-like parents, who are so mild mannered they are almost invisable. The fact that someone actually decided to make a film about these people and events makes me think some director should have taken up basket weaving as a career instead of movies. A perfect flick for getting depressed.

A sad, gripping tale of violence and a sister's love.
In a Child's Name is a disturbing story of violence and a sister's love. I recommend this movie as a learning tool for families of domestic violence to learn what not to do. It is hard to watch this story without asking yourself do you know somebody who is being misused. Michael Ontkean is very convincing as a coked up dentist who has lost control. And Valerie Bertinelli's portrayal a of greiving sister and aunt will move you to tears.

Gripping Movie
This is the movie based on Peter Maas' book - In a Child's Name. I viewed the movie after reading the book and what makes this movie exceptional is that it is one of the few movies which depicted an accurate version of the book. A few names were changed and the focus of the movie was on the victim's sister portrayed fabulously by Valerie Bertinelli. The movie is very effective in producing a lot of emotions in the viewer just as the book was. There is a lot to be learned from the movie - family love and support, the tragedy of domestic violence, communities pulling together for a good cause, the power of journalism in influencing court decisions, the judicial system ignoring what is in the best interests of a child, doing a thorough investigation of a person before jumping into marriage and finding out that they are a monster and finally - good does triumph over evil.

Stepford Husbands

Loved It!
There are a lot of cheesy TV movies out there, so I don't know why this one was poorly reviewed. I had even talked to someone at Donna Mills' production company who said that she was very unhappy with this movie. Donna Mills was NOT, however, involved as a producer of this production. While some projects have come through her own production company, she was hired soley as an actress for this one.

I thought that it was very well done. Donna Mills has her usual glamour, and Michael Ontkean is very good in this role. It is suspensful and creepy, and at the risk of sounding pretentious, it is very well edited. I also liked the music. Sure, the conclusion is a little cheesy, but hey, it's a TV movie! Louise Fletcher is also in this, who is always wonderful. I enjoyed the "look" of this movie, it's worth the price, and some very good acting. Donna's not a great actress, but she's just great at playing Donna Mills!

Middle-Class Thriller
This thriller is unfortunately nothing more than middle-class. The story is very good and the viewers surely expect more than they can see then ! Some scenes turn out to be very exicting but this doesn't save this movie to become a little disappointing at all. Donna Mills fans (like me) will enjoy it, but she deserves better !

Beyond the Stepford Wives, you find the Stepford Husbands!
As a fan of the Stepford Wives, I looked forward to watching this movie. I was disappointed only because it would have been so much better had the men been replaced by robots, like the original movie and novel, rather than being "conditioned" in a clinic. The fact that someone could make a robot exactly like a real human and replace them, is far scarier but anyway..........

The Stepford Husbands, is a very good movie. It could have been a whole lot better, for example casting someone other than Donna Mills as the heroine. But it does still insight the original disturbing thought, of a society that creates partners to perfection. I always said they should do one for the husbands! I'm sure my mum would send my dad to that clinic!

Like the Stepford Children starring Barbara Eden, this movie uses sterotypical marital problems to justify why the men should be changed. It works in some places and not in others, as the story is being rushed along for the discovery of what happens to the men.

The poor blokes get tubes stuck down their throats and tubes put into their navel, painful!:) and worst of all, they have to do yoga! Basically the movie works very well, capturing some of the paranoia from Ira Levin's novel The Stepford Wives, while still adding new enjoyment into a new story. Worthwhile buying, especially if you are a stepford fan!

Into the Blue
Released in VHS Tape by Anchor Bay Entertainment (09 December, 1997)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Director: Jack Gold
Average review score:

If you read "Into the Blue "don't buy this tape!
Robert Goddard wrote an outstanding book in "Into the Blue". The screenwriter totally twisted the story and plot into an unrecognizable mess! I watched part of this program when it was broadcast by PBS, I was sick. The ending is totally changed! YUK!! END

OUT ON A LIMB
All the elements of an intriguing mystery are cast before your very eyes. A one night stand, an abundance of murders over a thirty year period and unquestioned loyalties grab your attention. Unfortunately you are left hanging out on a limb because too many of these elements are bombarding you and you find yourself confused as to what is going on in the movie.

Harry, the main character (and caretaker)finds himself in as the main suspect in a murder. He knows that he is innocent and goes about trying to prove it. Come with him as he stumbles over bodies, is tailed, and is almost killed. These bizarre experiences leave him even more determined to unlock the mystery of a woman's death. I felt the movie was patched together with different elements which made it hard to follow. As murder mysteries would go I would rate this as average.

Still A Fan
For those who know John Thaw as the prickly Inspector Morse, you will enjoy this mystery almost as much as an episode of Morse. British mysteries do tend to be more involved than others and it is probably not a good idea to try and watch this one while you are catching up on your Spanish homework. All in all a enjoyable viewing. I only wish it was available on DVD.

Caravan To Vaccares

Tautly directed thriller
Alistair MacLean's thriller that falters only in the end, is nevertheless a good nostalgic trip for those faithful MacLean's fans. Viewers will sit up and recognize Charlotte Rampling (also in Angelheart), Michel Lonsdale (in Ronin who fixes DeNiro). Good thing about the movie: locational photography (shot in Arles, France among other places). Worth a glance!

Fine paced thriller
Cast of this movie: Charlotte Rampling (from Angelheart), David Birney, and Michel Lonsdale (Ronin, The Day of the Jackal, Moonraker). This thriller has few advantages over other movies which base themselves on international intrigue: good locational photography. Faithfully follows the book but stumbles only when Bowman is forced into the ring with the Bull and loses its pace thereafter. Actually, the book had more suspense and thrills (who can ever doubt Alistair MacLean?).

For Us, the Living: The Story of Medgar Evers

For Us, The Living-Dead
First of all, I would have appreciated being warned that this movie was in Extended Play Mode. CD Universe was kind enough to note that the copy it had for sale was in the EP mode and thus I did not buy it from them. I was optimistic that Amazon's copy might be in Standard Play mode because nothing was listed in the "technical details section." I had already opened the package before I noticed that it was in EP Mode. This copy of the movie had artifacts throughout the entire film. I tried it on two seperate VCRs. To to that off, the acting was uniformly horrible and the movie didn't even address the identity/landmark trial of assassin Byron De La Beckwith who was played superbly played by James Woods in "Ghosts of Mississippi" That is the movie you should see if you want to know about Medgar Evers and see outstanding performances at the same time including an uncharacteristically good one from Whoopi Goldberg. She was also great in "A Long Walk Home" which deals with some of the same themes. Lastly, I would have like to have seen someone like Denzel Washington in the title role.

Underrated, Overlooked and So Damn Good
For Us the Living, a movie that recently sneaked onto video after airing on national T.V. The story of Medgar Evers, a civil rights leader from the early to mid sixties who was murdered by the Klu Klux Klan. This movie tells us first hand how Medgar, took on racist politicians and came home to be a loving husband. Played beautifully by Holling Rollins, and the gifted Irene Cara. It is on my shelf right there by Malcolm X.

Seven Hours to Judgment
Released in VHS Tape by Anchor Bay Entertain (10 January, 1990)
MPAA Rating: R (Restricted)
Director: Beau Bridges
Starring: Beau Bridges and Ron Leibman
Average review score:

Revenge Unfilling
What is supposed to be a comment on how the justice system favors criminals while victims suffer doesn't shed a new perspective on the idea. Bridges and Moore don't have much chemistry as the married couple terrorized by Leibman, who's anguished character fails the produce the sympathy that he should have. The way the revenge is played out against Bridges' character is pretty far-fetched, too. Bridges is a good actor, but this is not a good vehicle for him.

Seven Hours to Judgement
A must see for anyone who lives in Seattle. This film takes you on a thrill packed romp from the concrete jungles of Pioneer Square, to the sub-terrainian horrors of underground Seattle. Filled with action, action and more action, this movie contains one of the most thrilling chase sequences ever filmed in Seattle's little known subway system (I won't tell if you don't)!

Buy it NOW!

Dangerously Close
Released in VHS Tape by Anchor Bay Entertain (06 June, 1990)

Director: Albert Pyun
Starring: John Stockwell and J. Eddie Peck

What happened to this movie?
So what if the plot is paper thin? There were still some imaginative moments in the first half of the film. However at precisely half way through the entire thing falls apart.
A student body security outfit called the Sentinels decides to put a stop to all crime at their high school. Every thing goes fine until they start letting their power run to their heads.
I liked the characters and the fast pace set at the start but then it took a nose dive. Cannon made good films. This one could have been great.

Julian close ups
Wow, this is a good one. Not so much for plot, but because I'm more of an "actor person". There are some fantastic close ups of Julian's face and hands in this. Brigitte Nielson is quite a beautiful tall woman too (even if her acting leaves something to be desired). Nice people to look at. Nice film work.

100% cheese!!!You`ll love it!!!
This film is about a yoghurt which comes to life and kills people!! You get the picture of what type of film this is?
Anyway, a white substance is found in the snow which seems to be coming out of the ground so one policeman decides to taste it, as you do, and the next thing you know it`s being sold in supermarkets all over the country. `Can`t get enough of the stuff` and such tunes repeatedly play on tv ads for the product and the whole country can`t get enough of it. Except one boy who notices it moving in the refrigerator and realises the dangers and how it`s transforming his family`s personalities who are trying to force him to eat it. Anyway, he escapes and along with `Mo`(Moriarty), another pretty woman and `chocolate-chip Charlie` (What kind of name is that!), try to fight the stuff and stop it from destroying their country.

The acting isn`t bad, the ad-campaigns are a laugh and this one is definetely one to watch for lovers of this type of unrealistic movie.
