writers block review
Writers Block sums up every writer's dream--that their character can come to life. Or could the dream turn into a nightmare? what if the dream lover of a romance writer's fantasies turns out to be the murderer in her recent crime novels? Morgan Fairchild is thwe writer, her character come to life played by the gorgeous Michael Praed, who is the best thing about the movie, tossing his mane of hair and turning from prince charming to a killer in an instant. Some boring bits when he is not on screen, but a fun movie for, maybe. a girly night in...

Don't Raise the Bridge, Lower the River
Released in VHS Tape by Columbia/Tristar Studios (24 March, 1998)
MPAA Rating: G (General Audience)
Director: Jerry Paris
The opening sequence of Don't Raise the Bridge, Lower the River has a bowler-hatted Jerry Lewis mischievously striding (in his oddly graceful, loose-hipped way) along the streets of London. The spontaneous business he creates is, alas, the last bit of freshness in the movie, which quickly reverts to a painfully labored plot. Jerry is in Swinging London (wrap your mind around that), an entrepreneur who spends the entire film trying to make up to his estranged British wife for turning her family estate into a Chinese restaurant-discotheque. The story also involves Arab oil barons, Portuguese automobiles, and a philandering dentist. Lewis didn't direct himself in this one, which accounts for the off pacing and total lack of good visual gags. It was 1968, and his rapid decline from creative excellence (see The Ladies Man and The Nutty Professor) and box-office potency was already into its skid. --Robert Horton

A Low point for Jerry....
Don't Raise the Bridge....is one of the worst Jerry Lewis movies. It's 'plot' is plotless and the situation style comedy doesn't work for Jerry here.

Being released in 1968, this film appears to be Jerrys attempt to be more contemporary and click with theatre goers changing tastes in the late 60s. He was not really involved with the production as he was with the majority of his films. He has stated himself that he did this film for verteran TV director/actor Jerry Paris because it was financially appealing. The results are very uninspired.

This is not to say that Jerry can't be contemporary and he is a joy in a film like Three on a Couch, however this one is as much of a misfire as Way Way Out, Hook Line and Sinker, and Which Way to the Front?.....Hey, they can't ALL be good.

Hopefully Columbia will release the rest of his output and its kind of a shame that they chose this rather weak title as their first DVD release. The Big Mouth is a much funnier and better paced film and is easily the best film he made after 1965. Hopefully they aren't going to gague sales of this title as a determining factor for future releases as this one is IMO strictly for Jerry Lewis completists.

The Lewis Invasion
Four years prior to the release of this film, America had exprienced the "British Invasion" with the Beatles, in "Don't Raise the Bridge", American Icon Jerry Lewis invades England.

After sixteen successful years with Paramount, Jerry Lewis ventured over to Columbia Pictures. "Don't Raise the Bridge..." was one of his first "gun for hire" films and he had nothing creatively to do with it (and it shows, it lacks the warmth and humor of "The Nutty Professor", "The Ladies' Man", and his several other solo classics. Nevertheless, it has some good moments, and the song performed by Danny Street at the opening is full of words to live by.

Jerry Lewis the great in a mature responsible (?) role
Jerry Lewis the great in a mature responsible (?) role or is it? Don't know what it is but this movie pulled it off very charmingly to become a classic hidden gem in comedy movies.
It was a pleasure to watch English actor Terry-Thomas, Patricia Routledge,(Keeping Up Appearances), one actor from Fawlty Towers and mature responsible (?) Jerry Lewis- always cooking up his next gig..
Hilarious comedy recommended for late night viewing so you don't miss out very intricate plot..:)

Power
Released in VHS Tape by Warner Studios (13 October, 1998)
MPAA Rating: R (Restricted)
Director: Sidney Lumet
Starring: Richard Gere and Julie Christie
Average review score:

Perfectly Awful
A justly underrated Lumet vechicle, this by-the-numbers turkey explores the world of media interaction with politics during a political convention. Tries to capture the world of show business by looking at the race from different points of view from various politicians and throwing in some (mild) satirical moments, but it's pretentious, farfetched, and unintentionally funny.

With this star-power, you know it's gotta be good.
Denzel Washington, Gene Hackman, Richard Gere, JT Walsh and a host of other famous faces create an intense political picture. Gere is a political analyst/(person who makes a candidate look good) and he's running several campaigns. Gene Hackman is a nemesis, so-to-speak. Washington seems to meddling around in Gere's work and from there the abuse of power unfolds. This is a good film, I wouldn't say great due to long periods of slowness, but I do heartily reccommend this film.

If you like politics, you'll like this.
This gets real technical when dealing with politics. I loved it! The cast is first rate (Gene Hackman is best), and the direction, deft (by veteran Sidney Lumet). If you want to to pay attention to details (or try to understand) it is rewarding. If you want a paranoia thriller, this ain't for you!

This movie is CRAP!
What a huge disappointment. I have this movie on VHS. WAtched it once. I want to use it for target practice. Then I bought a DVD player and got it for free. Its still in the plastic. I could never watch this movie again. Anybody want it? Its free!
The jokes were almost as bad as the story. Come on?? Crash on a desery island and have to survive? Gee, thats a new concept. Oh and the pirates! Who has pirates nowadays?!
Heres a scary the scary thing. I am a huge fan of Harrison Ford. I'll say it again, what a disappointment. This was his worst movie. This was the worst movie since Babe! I give it negative 1 star.

Easy to watch entertainment
I've seen this movie several times, and still enjoy it. While the dialoge is pretty simple and the plot somewhat predictable, there is enough action to keep the viewer's attention. It also contains some funny lines and situations. Finally, this movie just might make someone ask themself if it really is time to get into a slower-paced lifestyle. Enjoy!

Great Movie
My husband and I liked this movie. We are big Harrison Ford fans.
I would recommend this movie to anyone!

Operation Delta Force 2
Released in VHS Tape by Vidmark/Trimark (27 October, 1998)
MPAA Rating: R (Restricted)
Director: Yossi Wein
Average review score:

B grade plot, No consistent theme, good action though!
If you like to see guns and bullets this movie is fine. Otherwise there is nothing original or interesting.

Promising and O.K. sequel
The movie started off promising, but this sequel to this made-for-video flick needs a little work. No desert storm sequences this time (thank goodness), but this time they may have copied some submarine scenes from "Hunt for Red October". Originally shown on HBO as "Operation Delta Force II: Mayday."

King Richard and the Crusaders
Released in VHS Tape by Warner Home Video (13 April, 1994)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Director: David Butler
Starring: Rex Harrison, Virginia Mayo, and George Sanders
Average review score:

The Talisman - 50's Hollywood style
Well, the film didn't follow the book but that's not surprising. This was an obvious B- movie for the masses. I did enjoy watching Rex Harrison ham it up as Saladin, he obbviously had a good time with the part. Virginia Mayo was gorgeous, Laurence Harvey was stiff/predictable, and George Sanders was a disappointing King Richard. Although acting like the real King Richard would be tough for most hollywood actors in the 50's. The close-up horse-riding scenes were silly (moving background - static horse) and the battle scenes were lame. The jousts were OK and the desert dune scene was fun. All-in-all it was what I expected from a low budget 50's flick.

Dumb, Dumb, DUMB
They couldn't have miscast this film even worse if they'd tried.
I nearly collapsed from laughter. Don't watch it for history,
great acting, costumes, or sets. And lose the popcorn. You
don't want to choke between giggles!

High-priced junk
Big budget doesn't always mean quality. The producers of this movie had plenty of money to spend to make this picture. However, it should stand as an example of how not to make a picture. Talents of a big-name cast are abused and wasted; this film is filled to the brim with lousy overacting. Also, the screenplay is not very historically accurate. Most viewers would probably stop and rewind the tape before seeing very much of this movie. If you watch this film on television, you'll probably change the channel to see what else is on.

Chained Heat 3:Hell Mountain
Released in VHS Tape by Mti Home Video (03 October, 2000)
MPAA Rating: R (Restricted)
Director: Mike Rohl
Average review score:

You'd have o be chained to the couch to watch this movie!
Undeservedly overlooked at this year's Oscars, this is actually a retitling of a film called 'Hell Mountain', and has all the hallmarks of a tedious cash-in. You'd be half right; while nothing to do with the 1983 classic, as post-apocalyptic soft-porn B-movies go, it's not at all bad. And, believe me, I've seen enough to know how bad it *can* get. Fortunately, CH3 is set in a future where fertiliser and guns are in short-supply, but civilization still has an abundant supply of thongs and hair-stylists. The plot/excuse has a village exchanging their nubile young girls with an evil (and disfigured, natch) man who runs the fertiliser mine. This peeves one of the boyfriends, who looks like Kyle McLachlan, but sadly possesses none of the quirky wit. Oh, and all teachers bar one have been exterminated.

Certainly had potential --- but failed to deliver
I generally love women-in-prison films because I really enjoy that whole genre of vulnerable young imprisoned girls being preyed upon by bad-girl-cellmates, evil lesbian guards, and that always lustful female warden. This one DOES have the lustful female warden (but not enough of her), and there is one guard who just might be a lesbian, but the rest of it is disappointing and falls flat. For one thing, there are WAY too many guys in this film! Big mistake!

Basically, in the future women will be enslaved to work the salt mines, but one girl in particular has a boyfriend on the outside who wants to break her out. And, of course, he does. The best scenes (in my opinion) involve the beautiful, older female warden and the two young, blonde female sex-slaves she keeps for her private pleasures. I really liked it whenever those three were on the screen. Unfortunately, that was only twice, and too briefly at that. Of course, there's also an obligatory shower scene, but the women all kept their clothes on!?! What fun is that? Granted, their outfits were skimpy... but really! I liked the scene, but like the film itself it COULD have been a LOT better!

A futuristic WIP
very nice if you a WIP-B flicks fan. very good picture quality with famous faces playing minor roles, it must be hard 2 earn money in holywood these days. the plot is weak but for genre fans it is an entertaining 90 minutes of nothing

Crackerjack
Released in VHS Tape by Republic Studios (14 July, 1998)

Director: Michael Mazo

can we say Die Hard rip off
holy shiznay in the pants, this one blows, though Kinski's in it she doesnt save it, but shes hot. its a great, great, great crappy Die Hard tip off as Plummer holds up a skitresort and Griffith(not even close to Willis) is the one man army to take them down. how painstakingly chunky and frunky

crackerjack or crackerjerk
This film is awful. I love martial arts and was hoping to find some here. Unfortunately no. Thomas Griffin is a horrible actor. His character in this movie is poorly written - as is the movie itself. Perhaps the only redeeming point of the entire film is christopher plummer as the bad guy. Save your money, there are hundreds of better movies out there, including your neighbors summer vacation movies he's been wanting to show you.

A LOW RENT DIEHARD
This movie plays out like a very low-rent Diehard. In this case Thomas Ian Griffith is Bruce Willis, Christopher Plummer is Alan Rickman, and Vladimir Kulich (he's the reason that I bothered to watch this film in the first place) is Alexander Gudonov. Instead of a wife, Griffith's character has a brother, sister-in-law, and their newborn child. Nastasja Kinski, the entertainment director at the hotel, turns into a love interest for Griffith's character. Plummer plays a former mob hitman who assembles a band of mercenaries to take over the mountain-top resort where his former mob boss is staying in order to get his hands on a fortune in diamonds belonging to his former boss. In order to cover up their theft, they intend to bring an entire glacial field down on top of the resort to wipe it out. There is a scene in it where Griffith's character is supposed to be making a menacing threat to Plummer, and I swear, Griffith is smirking his way all the way through it. I think that he should go back to the world of soap operas where he came from and maybe get a little more acting experience. The acting in this movie is ... and the storyline is such a lousy ... of Diehard it's hilarious. This movie isn't just bad; it's R-E-A-L-L-Y B-A-D!!! It's the kind of movie that you want to get together with a group of friends to watch so you can sling insults at the screen. It would be perfect for the Mystery Science Theatre 3000 treatment.
