Con Express

MPAA Rating: R (Restricted)

don't be "con" vinced into watching this
To be honest with you I thought the movie was really bad. the acting was ok but the only good part about the movie was that ricky (Rodney Eastman) was in the movie. (for about 5 mins) but i would not suggest renting this movie and waisting 4 dollars.

Insert pun with word "con" here...
"Con Express" has lots of action in it, which is great because this hides the poor writing and uninteresting characters. Unfortunately, the action isn't enough, and in between stunt pieces and shoot-outs, the audience is tempted to doze off. City Heat Productions isn't really known for producing films of the highest quality, so usually I go easy on them. If this were a big-budget company producing this, I'd be inclined to pan it entirely. But I wasn't expecting much and got a little more than I bargained for. The action is, for the most part, pretty good but nothing competitive with your usual dumb action movie. Flanery and Vosloo are perfectly casted, but everyone else seems to stiff to add any more flow to the movie. Vosloo especially appears to be enjoying himself as an over-the-top bad guy hijacking a train containing deadly chemicals. The film moves fast and contains shades of better movies like Under Siege 2, Con Air, Spy Game, and Speed. If you liked those, you probably won't mind this one too much. Just go easy on it.

Con-sider This:
This DVD offers little in the way of features, a trailer being all you get, but perhaps that is normal on a straight to DVD release, I do not know.
I have to admit, I watched this for the Flannery factor and he did not disappoint, but bar the cannibal Russian, there were no truly interesting characters developed here.
Arnold Vosloo was a great bad guy, but that can probably be attributed more to his legacy as the evil mummy than to anything he did in this film. By his mere presence, you just *know* he is a cool, evil dude without him ever speaking.
Dealing with the subject of terrorism and even referring to Sept 11 at one point, you get the feeling that either this movie was played down in lieu of the attacks, (I have no idea when this movie was written or filmed), or else simply lacks any feeling of real danger. Even the Long Kiss Goodnight did it better at the end with stressing the audience. Whatever it is, the dire threat does not seem too terrible or fantastical at all, perhaps not when we know the world is capable of far greater evil, perhaps because it's all been done before on film.
It does, however, steam along at a great pace though and has plenty of action to carry you along.
Worth it if only to see Agent Brooks (Flannery) in nothing but his bracelet . Hey, I'm a woman, what can I say :-)

Man Trouble
Released in VHS Tape by Fox Home Entertainme (18 August, 1998)
MPAA Rating: PG-13 (Parental Guidance Suggested)
Director: Bob Rafelson
Starring: Jack Nicholson and Ellen Barkin
Average review score:

AN Awfull Film
I turned it off after 20 minutes.

Amusing well done little movie. Nicholson's always a joy.
I don't know why so many people slammed this movie. It's not Bringing Up Baby but it's a million times better than the moronic Something About Mary. Jack Nicholson has always been a very fine comic actor. I love The Fortune which was also written by Carol Eastman (as was 5 Easy Pieces) and was likewise trashed unjustly.

Take your choice: Romance or Comedy
MAN TROUBLE gets 4 **** from me because the dogs didn't upstage the actors. I've never cared for romantic comedies which make you decide to choose between romance or comedy. That was the problem with this movie. I chose comedy and got lot of enjoyment from the 100 minutes watching Nicholson, the conster, spar his wits with Barkin, with his Asian wife, with . . . well, with the rest of the cast. I'll be watching this movie from time to time as there are many memorable scenes such as Barkin trying to give the "guard dog" commands in German. Bev D'Angelo, fruitcake mobster ex-wife,furnishes some wacko dialogue and comedy scenes.

The X-Files: Wetwired/Talitha Cumi
Released in VHS Tape by Twentieth Century Fox (05 May, 1998)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Directors: William A. Graham, Paul Shapiro, Larry Shaw, Terrence O'Hara, Tucker Gates, James Wong (IV), Rod Hardy, Kim Manners, Robert Lieberman, and Richard Compton
After "Wetwired" (third season, episode 23) you may never watch cable TV again. Mulder (David Duchovny) and Scully (Gillian Anderson) investigate a pair of multiple homicides in a small town and find delusional killers with stockpiles of seemingly random videotaped TV programs stashed in their homes. A high-tech cable tap may provide the linking clue, but not before Scully starts showing strange symptoms. Third season cliffhanger "Talitha Cumi" (episode 24) guest stars cult actor Roy Thinnes as Jeremiah Smith, or rather many Jeremiah Smiths, a man who may be clone, alien, mutant, or perhaps some combination of the three. Mulder and Scully track the mysterious Mr. Smith after he miraculously heals the victims of a shooting spree, only to discover a veritable army of identical men working for the government across the nation. Meanwhile the Cigarette Smoking Man (William B. Davis) secretly meets with Mulder's mother, a rendezvous recorded by shadowy X (Steven Williams) and presented to Mulder. As with all season-ending episodes, the many threads strewn through the season are pulled together and woven through with new characters and clues--and left hanging until next season, or in this case, the next video release. --Sean Axmaker

UGH!
This episode is bad; Avoid this one. It's not as good as the more better X-Files episodes. Besides the plot seem like a 5-year old wrote it.

The Worst Episode Ever!

Well . . .
While I can't say it's my favorite, I have to disagree with the one-star reviews. "Wetwired" isn't GREAT, but the scene with Mrs. Scully confronting her crazed, psychotic daughter in order to save Mulder--even placing herself in danger to do so--is a highlight. "T.C." was a cliffhanger. Oh--and that aforementioned scene in Wetwired might be a clue to the fact that Margret Scully KNOWS how Dana feels about Mulder. Just for all those shippers out there--myself included. If you don't know what a shipper is, it's a person who's devoted to, even bent on seeing Scully and Mulder together romantically.

I have to disagree, I liked this one
I found the one-star reviews surprising. "Wetwired" admittedly wasn't the best episode I've seen, but it had its moments. And "Talitha Cumi" was an engrossing cliffhanger. We literally shrieked when "To be continued" flashed across the screen--and then spent an hour, late at night, driving from one video store to the next looking for part 2.

Sonic Impact
Released in VHS Tape by Artisan (Fox Video) (14 November, 2000)
MPAA Rating: R (Restricted)
Director: Rodney McDonald

Worst movie ever
I normally would not write a review, but I am ashamed to say that I lost two hours of my life to this obscenely horrible movie. I would have had a better time if I had stabbed myself in the eye five times and tried to bandage it with a soldering iron. If you are looking for a reason to kill yourself, Sonic Impact is the movie for you. Not only was there no Sonic Impact, there was no impact at all. Terrible plot and horrible character development, add to a low budget thriller that I would use to punish my children if they were to pee on the kitchen floor. Ice T was by far the best actor in this movie. If that doesn't give you an impression of its quality, then you probably can't read or write. If you enjoyed Chill Factor, Dante's Peak, or Canadian suspense movies... this movie is for you. I am dumber from seeing this movie. May god have mercy on my soul.

The sky could not be more deadly
I first saw this movie when i was in Dubi in a movie theater and when i saw the movie poster i was surprised because i have never heard of this movie. It is a direct to video release for the U.S. After the credits rolled through thats when i realized this is not going to be a big budget movie. Overall it was a really good movie. I reccomend it for people looking for a date movie to rent.

Kiss of Death
Released in VHS Tape by Twentieth Century Fox (18 August, 1998)
MPAA Rating: R (Restricted)
Director: Barbet Schroeder
Starring: David Caruso, Samuel L. Jackson, and Nicolas Cage
This remake of a 1947 film noir casts David Caruso (freshly escaped from TV's NYPD Blue) in the role originally played by Victor Mature. He plays Jimmy Kilmartin, a reformed criminal struggling to keep straight and keep his wife (Helen Hunt) from going back to the bottle. But a favor for his cousin lands him back in the clink, and when his wife dies, he comes out ready to make a deal with the D.A. He becomes an informant, joining the crew of Little Junior Brown (Nicolas Cage), a pumped-up, asthmatic psycho who weightlifts strippers for amusement. Eventually, Jimmy finds himself forced to keep his radar up for treachery from both the criminals he's finking on and the cops he's working for. This film, directed by Barbet Schroeder, didn't do much business, despite a powerful but controlled performance by Caruso and a scarily splashy one by Cage. --Marshall Fine
Average review score:

Very weak
this film suffers from bad writing& trying to showcase non-big screen acting David Caruso.he should have stayed on Blue.Nicolas Cage is okay.but only Samuel L.Jackson keeps your attention.this film goes nowhere fast.despite having names there's no Chemistry.

Who's afraid of Nicolas Cage?
All right, so he's not the most convincing goon. It's still amusing to see him in this role. I'd say these nay-sayers need to lighten up. As a poor country boy unfamiliar with the urban crime cliches and plot twists, I can honestly say I enjoyed this movie. No, it's no masterpiece, but it is entertaining enough to be worth seeing, even buying at such a reasonable price. Caruso and (as they all admit) a fine supporting cast do very well with a now conventional plot that is at least not as droll as they say. This is probably the first time I've rated something higher than others. Strange.

Kiss Me Baby!
When David Caruso made headlines by leaving the hit TV show "NYPD Blue," the question people were asking was "Is he making a mistake?" Looking back on his career the past few years, we have to say that he did. But you couldn't tell that from his performance in "Kiss of Death." He's actually quite good.

Caruso plays Jimmy Kilmartin, a reformed car thief with a wife and baby who is desperately trying to go straight. Before he does, though, he reluctantly agrees to help his worthless cousin Ronny (Michael Rapaport) on one last run. If he doesn't, then Little Junior (Nicholas Cage), a sadistic killer, will bury Ronny. Naturally, things go bad. A cop gets shot and Jimmy ends up taking the fall by himself.

True to his personal code of honor, Jimmy won't rat out the others no matter how hard the sleazy DA (Stanley Tucci) pushes him. Then Ronny starts to move in on Jimmy's wife (Helen Hunt) and things really go wrong. Jimmy agrees to make a deal and cunningly manipulates events so that Little Junior takes Ronny down.

Three years later, Jimmy finally gets out of prison. The DA's not about to let things drop, however. He wants Little Junior bad and he'll do what it take to get him, even if that means using Jimmy and his family.

The plot of "Kiss of Death" is loosely based on the 1947 original-a class film noir-which featured Victor Mature, and Richard Widmark in his star?making role. (Remember his maniacal giggle as he pushed the old lady down the stairs?)

The story's been updated and it is grittier, realer and even more gripping. Novelist Richard Price ("Clockers") wrote the screenplay and he is one of the very best writers working in movies today. He has a true affinity for the seedy side of life and the characters and situations that populate his films are always enthralling to watch.

The direction by Barbet Schroeder ("Reversal of Fortune") is tense, well?paced and energetic. The acting is very good, especially by Caruso and Cage. Caruso is a very subtle and contained actor, much like Robert Mitchum, a veteran of many films noir. Also like Mitchum, Caruso seems like a powder keg about to go off. He projects seething fire and intensity without overplaying his hand.

Cage is mostly known for his dimwitted nice guy, hero roles, but he shows here that he has some real chops, creating a maniacal thug with a hair?trigger temper. With his pumped?up body and goatee, he has a hard look that goes great with his intense persona. It would have been very easy to go over?the?top with this part, but Cage never does. This is a very good performance.

The ending is the weakest part of the movie. It seems that the filmmakers ran out of gas and had to settle for less than the picture deserves. This is not a great crime film like "Goodfellas" or "Pulp Fiction," but it still makes for an enjoyable viewing.

[junky] spawn
My God, what a [junky] movie! I'm a lover of "B" rated horror movies and usually the campier the better, but if there's such a thing as a "E" of "F" rated movie this is it. The plot is obviously a ripoff of "The Wasp Woman", the special effects are practically non-exsistant, the monster is stupid looking, (I did like the teeth) and I've see better acting in porno movies. The only redeeming feature of this turkey is the physical appearance of the woman actors, the're for the most part pretty darn good looking. I could keep going, tearing this thing to shreds, but let me suffice to say I haven't seen a movie this bad since "Attack of the Mushroom People"

DO NOT TOUCH!!!!
I happen to be a fan of Fred Olen Ray's movies, but you must fight all urges to buy this one, folks. First of all, the picture quality wasn't that great. I've seen worse, but it is poor quality and very grainy (which suprises me given the good quality of other Retro Media titles). Next, the acting is atrocious. I can usually deal with bad actors and actresses (as I said earlier, I'm a fan of Fred Olen Ray's movies) if the plot is decent enough or if the story is at least entertaining enough. But this is absolutely the worst movie I have ever seen! There are no, I repeat, no redeeming qualities in this movie. So, why did I give it two stars you ask? The extra materials, that's why. There are some pretty neat things on the rest of the DVD (such as Nite Owl Theater bloopers, outtakes of the movie, and, of course, a new episode of Nite Owl Theater). But believe me, it is not worth the price of the DVD. STAY AWAY!!!!

Mediocre Monster Movie!
The movie begins with a space ship coming back from a journey into outer space. On this journey they have obtained spores from another planet.John Carradine uses these spores to make ayouth serum.Carradine dies. His assistant takes the serum to an aging movie star who injects it hoping to start landing leading roles again. So far this movie is lightweight. The movie star turns into a giant buglike creature. The most exciting segment takes place when the secretary goes skinny dipping in the pool and is killed by the buglike creature. The plot is bad,the acting is bad,the whole movie is bad.Buy this if you can find it on sale.

Average review score:

Move on, not worth the time.
Don't be confused by the name; there are other, and much better "The Patriot" films staring Mel Gibson or Steven Seagal and then there's Patriot Games staring Harrison Ford as Jack Ryan. In this 1986 movie a former Navy SEAL who was dishonorably discharged, was called back to the Navy to recover a stolen Navy nuclear weapon. It's not often that I have given less than 3 stars to a military movie; they are my favorite review. But this film, with Leslie Nielsen as its star is as poorly done as I've ever reviewed. I tried to like it; in fact I tried to watch it! No luck. If you're like me and in to military movies, the title "The Patriot" sound inviting, and it is if it's the one with Mel Gibson! ...This poor film of the same name is rated R for a brief sex scene and military violence. ...
