My Man Godfrey
Released in VHS Tape by Universal Studios (12 January, 1994)
MPAA Rating: Unrated
Director: Henry Koster
Starring: June Allyson and David Niven
Average review score:

David Niven as Godfrey is charming and distinguished!
"My Man Godfrey" is one of those old classic films you must see sometime! David Niven magnificently portrays Gofrey, an Austrian illegally in the country who fears he will be deported if he is found out. He soon meets Irene Bullock (June Allyson) who is captured by his dapper charm as she hires him as her family's butler. Everyone in the family is cast under his charming spell except Irene's sister, Cordelia. In time, she, too, will be fascinated. As soon as detectives become suspicious, he feels he must go back to Europe despite Irene's disapproval. I don't feel suprised at her falling for a man as handsome as he is. On a boat returning, she runs after him and beforehand, he knows of a law that says a person illegally in the country can marry an American only after they've left American borders, which will probably happen when you see them together in the final shot with the Statue of Liberty in the background! This picture is delightful and David Niven is sleek, superb, girl-attracting, and distinguished. "My Man Godfrey",as one of the character's in the story, Vincent, would put it, is:
"Lovely, lovely!"

A Great remake !
I think this is a great remake of the 1930's film and David Nevan and June Allyson are splendid in it. It's enteraing and as good as the orginal. I highly recommend it.

Great fun
If this movie had tried to keep to the same script as the original, It would not have worked. The basic story line still works however Godfrey Smith harbors a different secret past. This time Francesca (Eva Gabor) gets to be the bean spiller. You might remember Eva [Green Acres (1965) ASIN: 6305906580]

June Allyson makes a good ditzy Irene Bullock.

A Christmas To Remember
Released in VHS Tape by (22 December, 1978)

Director: George Englund

THE BEST CHRISTMAS MOVIE
I have a very old, scratchy, taped-off-the-tv video of this movie that I watch every Christmas and any other time that I desire. I've periodically tried to find another new one fearing that some day this old tape of mine will self-destruct. This is the sweetest, funniest, most heartfelt movie, and I have enjoyed it along with my family for many, many years. Jason Robards is exquisite as usual and Eva Marie Saint is truly a saint, putting up with this old curmudgeon. Bryan Englund is superb, bringing a touching and sympathetic portrayal of Rusty, the boy who has no choice but to be shipped off to his grandparents in Minnesota during the depression. A young boy helps his Grandad's heart to heal. You will laugh heartily, but you will also cry.....you won't be able to help it.

I've reviewed this twice,passionately.
I spent about 45 mins writing a very passionate review of his movie in this space about 2 months ago. I submitted it too! You don't seem to recieve it. Really was a heart felt review too. Sorry, Don't have any copis of it--unless you do?

Catherine Cookson's Moth
Released in VHS Tape by Bfs Entertainment & Multimedia (26 May, 1998)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Director: Roy Battersby

Romantic, thrilling period piece.....top notch drama!
This is a splendid dramatic adaptation based on the Catherine Cookson novel. It stars handsome Jack Davenport (The Talented Mr. Ripley) as a poor carpenter who works as a servant for a wealthy family and becomes the love interest of his boss' daughter (played by Juliet Aubrey - "Middlemarch"). It also stars Justine Waddell (lately of "Mansfield Park" and BBC's "Great Expectations"). It explores issues of class, family vs. personal obligations, and love vs. duty. This is one of Ms. Cookson's best work! I highly recommend it - great acting, production values and is very satisfying and enjoyable!

The Anderson Tapes
Released in VHS Tape by Columbia/Tristar Studios (09 September, 1997)
MPAA Rating: PG (Parental Guidance Suggested)
Director: Sidney Lumet
Starring: Sean Connery and Dyan Cannon
An early example of the techno-thriller, The Anderson Tapes--sharply directed by Sidney Lumet from the novel by Lawrence Sanders--follows just-out-of-jail Duke Anderson (a balding Sean Connery) as he plots the heist of an entire New York apartment building, enlisting a crew that includes Martin Balsam as a vintage 1971 gay stereotype and a very young Christoper Walken in perhaps the first of his jittery crook roles. The gimmick is that Anderson has been out of circulation so long that he doesn't realizse his mafia backers are only supporting him because they feel nostalgic for the days before they were boring businessmen and that the whole set-up is monitored by a criss-crossing selection of government and private agencies who don't care enough to thwart the robbery, which instead becomes unglued thanks to a spunky handicapped kid-cum-radio ham. With a cool Quincy Jones score, very tight editing, a lot of spot-on cameo performances from the likes of Ralph Meeker as a patient cop, The Anderson Tapes hasn't dated a bit: it's wry without being jokey and suspenseful without feeling contrived. --Kim Newman
Average review score:

Excellent movie.
Great flick. Fast paced armed robbery thriller driven by an ultra funky Quincy Jones soundtrack. Excellent direction, and an all star cast make this movie a great choice. I believe this was even Christopher Walken's first film. Sidney Lumet's style is unmatched as the fast paced editing follows the excellent soundtrack. Onoe of the best films ever made in my opinion.

Tape Measure
The Anderson Tapes conspicuously mentioned in this film's title are very peripheral to the film's plot. Instead we have a brilliant 'caper film' set in a New York City townhouse in early 1971. The images are still memorable of a balding Sean Connery as the leader and brains behind the heist. And who can forget that stoic and peculiar looking member of Connery's team, Christopher Walken in his first film. What an impression he made. This film still looks current even today. This is a real suspenseful film full of great characterizations. A good one!

Tape Worm
Sean Connery turns in an excellent and memorable performance in this excellent thriller competently acted, well scripted and neatly directed about a heist where everything is not what it appears to be. This film is full of great characters and suspense. Quincy Jones composed a great score. Look for Christopher Walken's distinctive face in his film debut. It will keep you on the edge of your seat.
