The hippest, grooviest, stand-up I've seen in a long time.
Sinbad, in this particular stand-up, was undoubtly the funniest I have seen in quite a while. Being a child from the 70's, I could watch this video over and over. The humor was superb, clean, and suitable for even my 10 year old. On a scale from 1 to 10, this video measures a very strong 9.5. Rent it today, you'll love it !

I almost died laughing!
Sinbad has got to be the funniest comedian in the world, and he shows it in this video. With jokes about everything from childhood to vampires, Sinbad never misses in this hilarious routine. I convinced my brother to rent this video (he had never really watched Sinbad) and he still talks about it. Sinbad is one of the few comedians who knows that humor can be good, without being dirty or filled with foul language. This is truly one of the funniest stand-up routines I have ever seen.

As funny on tape as in person
A must for Sinbad fans of all ages! One of the few comics who come off just as good on tape as in person. After seeing his live show 2 days ago, my only mission is to acquire as many video performances as possible.

Fled
Released in VHS Tape by Mgm/Ua Studios (23 September, 1997)
MPAA Rating: R (Restricted)
Director: Kevin Hooks
Starring: Laurence Fishburne and Stephen Baldwin
In the road-movie-reluctant-pals genre, Fled goes down a road well-taken and still manages to get lost. Defiant ones Piper (Laurence Fishburne) and Dodge (Stephen Baldwin) escape from their chain gang when a prison break/shootout begins. Evading rednecks and faceless policemen they make it to Atlanta where "smart-ass" Dodge (who delivers one-liners that do a disservice to smart-asses everywhere) has to recover a computer disk. They are aided and abetted by Cora (Salma Hayek--this time using a funny hat, instead of her breasts, for character development), who takes the convicts in as if she were picking up college buddies from the airport. Maybe she realizes what great guys these prison-garbed buffoons are. They donate money to charity. They save dying rednecks. They rescue little boys from oncoming cars. Unfortunately, they can't save any of Dodge's old associates, like his stripper-with-an-apartment-of-gold girlfriend or his fellow computer hacker, from getting shot up by Cuban Mafia thugs that want that disk! Laurence Fishburne is the main reason to see the film, but that's a stretch, and Stephen Baldwin seems nothing like the same searing actor seen in The Usual Suspects. --Keith Simanton

Fun all the way
This is the movie that got me into the world of Ducati Motorsports. The Ducati 916s that they ride are simply some of the best machines ever made. A great and fun movie overall. Great dialog, good action, and awesome motorcycle scenes. The only thing I find hard to believe, but is prevelant in all movies with chase scenes, is that the stupid Lincoln can keep pace with the 916. Now, unless the Lincoln has Nitrus and a blower, it ain't gonna happen! Besides that, an awesome movie!

EXPLOSIVE ALL ACTION MOVIE
Laurence Fishbourne and Steven Baldwin star in this all action adventure movie which boasts stunning visual effects and many daring, hair raising stunts from the great cast. Its all action near enough from the word go but its compelling from beginning to end with its fast, furious dialogue and great performances from its two leading stars, Lawrence Fishbourne and Steven Baldwin as two escaped convicts who are chained together through there wild adventures. Lots of great thrills throughout!! Highly recommended!

The Fugitive and US Marshals rolled into one.
the 90's version of "the Defiant ones" is a top-notch Techno Thriller which keeps you interested from minute one. enough said... See it, if you dont like it, email me and ill degrade you.

Who The Hell Is Juliette?
Released in VHS Tape by Kino Video (29 August, 2000)
MPAA Rating: NR (Not Rated)
Director: Carlos Marcovich
Yuliet Ortega is a 16-year-old Cubana who lives in a rough, rundown neighborhood in Havana; Fabiola Quiroz is a successful Mexican model who divides her time between music videos in Latin America and fashion shoots in New York City. They have three things in common: startling green eyes, an obsession with their absent fathers, and the passionate interest of filmmaker Carlos Marcovich, who has intertwined their stories into a lively, evocative mix of fact and fiction titled Who the Hell Is Juliette?

Marcovich plays Ortega's great, bursting energy and barking laugh against Quiroz's introspection and melancholy. If he's making a point about differences in national characters, it's nicely undersold and flows without a trace of editorializing. Their difference is like that of the mountains and the sea, of stony self-sufficiency and bubbling openness.

Both women have significant ties to North America. Quiroz's mother traces her daughter's green eyes to her long-vanished father, a Canadian archeologist on a dig in Michoacan. Ortega's father, who abandoned his family during the Mariela boatlift, turns out to be an electrician living in New Jersey. This is a fine example of what happens when a filmmaker follows the logic of a subject that intrigues him rather than conforms to a preset script. Who the Hell Is Juliet? seems to be discovering itself as it goes along, just like its two appealing heroines. --Dave Kehr

Poetic Loving Film Makes a Mockery of Mockumentaries
This 1997 movie, much of it filmed along the sea wall in Havana, is a beautiful, playful, and ultimately deeply moving exploration of two young women, the incredibly vivacious 16-year-old promiscuous Cuban Yuliet Ortega and her green-eyed Mexican model would-be mentor, Fabiola Quiroz. I agree with the San Francisco Chronicle quote that only a poet could have dared so much and succeded so completely. Among the many innovations here are a send-up of the popular "mockumentary" structure-these people are either real or an incredibly undiscovered bevy of the world's most accomplished Latin actors. There are many touching, laugh out loud moments-and the laughter is heartfelt, resulting from the innocent depths of youthful sweetness and naivete that mark these young Cubans' joyful and yet heartbreaking lives. Yuliet's white father has left on a perilous trip across the straits of Florida to settle in the United States; her mother has attempted suicide by immolation (she fails but then succumbs to a heart attack). She is raised by her toothless black grandma, who beats her but clearly loves her, and who talks about the Stanislavsky method and her thanks to Yuliet (Italian for Juliette) for finally allowing her to realize her dream as an actor. The film actually shows what is good about Cuba (Yuliet's presumably lambasting remarks about Castro are muted)-its interracial harmony, the abiding hope and sweetness of its citizens, and its freedom from the poisoning influence of souls sacrificed upon the altar of the dollar. Very innovative, deeply personal and credible (e.g., Yuliet: "I just want to say, to any of you who are still left in the theater, that I never did sleep with the director"), and ultimately a cinematic act of uncompromising love.

Freshest movie in a long time.
Who the hell is Juliette? is a small masterpiece that drips with verve and spontaneity. By turn sexy, funny, sad and raucous, it serves up a gritty and refreshing look at a streetwise Cuban girl's search for identity against the backdrop of contemporary Havana. Yuliet Ortega steals the show with her nubile energy and sensuality. And hats off to director Carlos Marcovich for the beautiful cinematography. Makes me want to visit Cuba one day. Recommended.

One of the Greatest, Fun Movies
This wasn't a movie to change your mind or broaden your horizons. This was a great butt-whoopin of a good time! Robert Rodriguez is my all time favorite hero of a director, and I can't do anything but be wowed by his movies....

Raw Talent
Robert Rodriguez shows the masses of raw directing talent he has in this made for TV movie. The directing is energetic and stylish and even more impressive when you realise that it was shot in only 13 days! On top of this Rodriguez also wrote and directed this mini masterpiece. A brilliant homage to the 50's drive in teenage angst rock and roll movies. It succeeds where Walter Hill failed with "Streets of Fire". David Arquette is perfect as Dude but Nixer, played by John Hawkes, is a scene stealer as the geeky guy we all knew in high school.

agree: the coolest movie ever that nobody's seen
Even if this movie was made for TV it should have been released for the big screen. As it is nobody seems to know this gem. Insanely great music, Johnny Reno's My Mistake alone worth the price of the tape. Great characters like the Nixer and Dude. This movie has major cult potential if only people knew about it.

El Callejon de los Milagros
The movie itself is a great mexican masterpiece, but avoid this DVD at all cost

It have none extra features, and the worst of all, you can't remove the english subtitles.... the aspect ratio is Full Screen and the audio is 2.0

I recommend this movie in a VHS rather than a DVD

(unfortunatelly the only dvd version of this movie, is this featureless DVD... grrr!)

Very compelling story perfectly set in Mexico City.
I saw "El Callejon de los Milagros" (orginal title of the movie) two years ago in Mexico City. It is extremely well-acted by its cast which includes Salma Hayak who since then of course has become a star in the U.S., though she has never had a vehicle here like "El Callejon de los Milagros" that really showed her acting prowess along with her physical beauty. The movie, though, is really about great ensemble acting that tells four or five separate but somehow inter-related stories set on a street in the working class barrio of Mexico City known there as Tepito. The characters, especially the young guys, have the delicious accent of proletarian Mexico City, and use all the slang and idiomatic expressions. It may be hard to understand for those who haven't spent time in Mexico City, but the sub-titles probably help a lot. The movie touches on themes like homosexuality, machismo, poverty, the poignant fears and desires of a single lady in her late forties, and features some of Mexico's best actors, along with Hayak. I guess the movie is not for the faint of heart, since it unflinchingly looks at prostitution and homosexuality in Mexico City, but always shows choices made by characters in all their complexity. We are looking at very human, fallible people confronting their sexuality, their hopes and dreams, and making choices, sometimes disastrous choices, in hopes of escaping the economic and social limitations that constrict the life-choice options for those living in a poor neighborhood like the proletariat barrio where the "Callejon de los Milagros" is set. It is a fascinating look at life in Mexico City, very convincing and engrossing. It really should have been given a big advertising push by Miramax so that it could have had the large audience it deserves. Too bad, because U.S. audiences would surely have enjoyed it, and those of us familiar with the setting in Mexico City doubly love it because it so perfectly captures the language and mores of the people who live in "el Callejon de los Milagros".

A realistic "Callegon de Milagros"
An excellent drama offset by comedic situations and some great acting."Midaq Alley" captures life around a neighborhood in Mexico City complete with intertwined lives and surprising tangles in the web of life. The story has a soap opera quality but is much more grand and much more realistic than the sappy soaps. The movie is a peek into the trials and tribulations of ordinary lives with at times extraordinary circumstances. It covers a variety of contemporary issues addressing life in the DF today. It is very difficult to explain other than to say that it is well worth viewing to draw your your own conclusions. There is alot going on in the story. The acting is superb and very gritty, giving the movie a sense of authenticity. There is a whole cast of characters that have their roles big and small but all lend credence to the movie. One of my favorite characters in the movie is a man known as "el poeta". During the domino games at the local bar he sites various authors to illustrate his opinions on everything from the game itself to the neighborhood gossip. He is just so cool with his subtle commentary. Another fine performance is put in for the character "Don Ru" who is one of the hubs of the story that ties several characters together. He is very credible given the unusual circumstances. Two of the best performances are put in by Bruno Bichir, as Abel, the love interest of the oh, so sexy Salma Hayek, as Alma. Abel is a sort of naive, yet street smart kid who looks like a younger Andy Garcia. He plays his role perfectly. The dialogue is as younsters talk to themselves complete with "buey" folowing every sentence. The movie has it's share of foul language but it doesn't sound nasty, it comes out just as Mexicans often talk. It isn't anything dirty or vile it is just colorful street talk. Now for the real reason for every man to watch this movie-Salma Hayek, what a goddess! She is just so beautiful that it matters not what she would say or do because most of us men don't care. Seriously though, she can act and does so quite convincingly. Her character is one of the main ones and she pulls it off, not her clothes, with conviction. Granted her chacter does not have the most depth in the movie but she is more than a pretty face, she can act. A galaxy of stars for Salma Hayek. This is one of the best dramas I've seen of late and quite possibly the best to come out Mexico in years. The setting is beautiful and very close to life. The situations are all to real and superbly presented in such a manner that will have you laughng and sad, happy and dissappointed, feeling tragic and triumphant, much like in real life. This is an excellent movie, a little long, but well worth the viewing experience. This is Mexican cinema at it's finest.

Fools Rush In
Released in VHS Tape by Columbia/Tristar Studios (04 April, 2000)
MPAA Rating: PG-13 (Parental Guidance Suggested)
Director: Andy Tennant
Starring: Matthew Perry and Salma Hayek
Opposites attract in this conventional but refreshingly unpredictable romantic comedy. New York nightclub designer (Matthew Perry, from television's Friends) is in Las Vegas to supervise the construction of a new project when he meets a fiery Mexican beauty (Salma Hayek). It's lust at first sight, and their one-night stand takes an unexpected turn when she shows up three months later to announce that she's pregnant. They're determined to do right for each other, so they get married in a Vegas chapel with an Elvis impersonator as their witness. Then comes the hard part--trying to figure out if they're actually compatible. The plot complications are mostly familiar, but Perry and Hayek throw some bright sparks as their initial bliss turns to more realistic concerns for family and future. Along the way there's some sharp dialogue and a few good laughs to give this all-too-human comedy an enjoyable spin. --Jeff Shannon

A sweet romantic comedy
Do opposites attract? Apparently, it does. But is the relationship easy? Not according to this film. This film questions cultural differences. Alex Whitman (Matthew Perry) is a white nightclub designer from New York City. He is committed to his job and takes no prisoners. Isabel Fuentes (Salma Hayek) is a Mexican photographer from Las Vegas. She loves the desert and is passionate about certain things. Alex is not very close to his family, whereas Isabel has dinner with her entire family (and I do mean her entire family) on Sundays. After a one-night stand, Isabel reappears in Alex's life and announces that she's pregnant. Frantic, Alex and Isabel decide to get married. After having experienced cultural and attitude clashes, Isabel and Alex fall in love. The events are sort of reversed. They engage in sexual activity, marry, have a baby, and fall in love. I love the comedy and romance in the film, and I also love the chemistry between Hayek and Perry. I highly recommend it.

...WHERE ANGELS FEAR TO TREAD
This is a delightful romantic comedy. Matthew Perry is a charming, self-effacing leading man. Salma Hayek is a most fetching and winsome leading lady. Strong performances by the supporting cast help make this a most enjoyable movie.

Alex Whitman (Matthew Perry) lives in New York and has a high powered job as a field agent for a builder that specializes in the construction of night clubs. He is sent to Las Vegas to supervise new construction. While there, he meets a fiery, latin beaty, Isabel Fuentes (Salma Hayek), with whom he has a very memorable one night stand. This is totally out of character for both of them. In fact, she is so embarrassed by what happened, that she sneaks out of his house first thing in the morning. Before he even knows it, she is gone, never to be heard from again, until she shows up on his door step three months later to announce that she is pregnant with his baby.

Alex tells her that he supports her right to choose. Isabel chooses to have the baby. She asks nothing from him other than he meet her family, so that it is not such a shock when she announces that she is pregnant. He agrees to do so. He meets her traditional, Mexican-American family and is taken by their warmth, a quality that is sorely lacking in his family. He rarely sees his own family, except for the obligatory holidays, while Isabel meets hers once a week for dinner.

Alex and Isabel fall in love and have a quickie marriage ceremony performed in Las Vegas. Naturally, as they are now husband and wife. they move in together. Then reality sets in. They contend with cultural difference, with pain in the you know what in-laws, and with the every day adjustments necessary, when living with someone one does not, as yet, know. Then, the trust that had developed is violated, and they each go their own separate ways.

What happens with the baby? Does the marriage survive? Watch the movie and find out. The experience will be an enjoyable one.

IT TRULY IS THE GREATEST ROMANTIC COMEDY OF ALL TIME!!
TO SUM IT UP: SIMPLY THE MOST UNDERRATED ROMANTIC COMEDY EVER!! NO EXAGGERATING AT ALL...DESERVED AN OSCAR NOMINATION FOR SCENERY, ORIGINAL STORY, DIRECTING, AND FOR ACTRESS(SALMA HAYEK). MATHEW PERRY WAS OUTSTANDING ESPECIALLY;..I'VE NEVER EVEN SEEN 'FRIENDS', BUT HIS COMICAL DELIVERANCES OF LINES WERE UNPARRALLED.
IF YOU WANT TO CRY, IF YOU WANT TO BE TOUCHED DEEPLY, IF YOU WANT TO BE MOVED EMOTIONALLY, IF YOU WANT TO LAUGH, AND IF YOU WANT TO BE GLUED TO THE SCREEN FROM THE OPENING CREDITS UNTIL THE END, THEN BUY THIS MOVIE!! EASILY MAKES THE TOP 10 MOVIES OF ALL-TIME!!!

An Anglo builder (Matthew Perry) from New York and a Mexican-American photographer (Salma Hayek) from Las Vegas have a date, get pregnant, and then get married in a particularly rocky union made worse by the presence of in-laws from both sides. This relationship comedy (with some drama) goes down all the paths you'd expect it to, but it is also deliberately a showcase for Friends star Perry and his gifted way with a one-liner. Nothing special here, just two nice stars in a cozy vehicle. The DVD release has full-screen and widescreen presentations, theatrical trailer, optional Spanish and French subtitles, optional Spanish and French soundtracks, and Dolby sound. --Tom Keogh
