Gale Force
Released in VHS Tape by Artisan (Fox Video) (15 January, 2002)
MPAA Rating: R (Restricted)
Director: Jim Wynorski
Average review score:

A horrible film that pokes fun at TV reality shows
Treat Williams has made some bad films, and "Gale Force" is another stinker to add to his filmography. This direct-to-video garbage stars Williams as a LAPD detective who is asked to sign up for a new TV reality show, "Treasure Hunt", after he is suspended from the police force. The film's director (supposedly it's Jay Andrews, not Jim Wynorski) decided to steal some footage and action sequences from other films, such as "Last Action Hero" and "Die Hard". I wonder how the makers of "Last Action Hero" feel about having its car chase sequence being digitally inserted into this film! Anyway, avoid this one at all costs, and pray that Treat Williams' new TV series will be better than this [one].

What Could Have Been...
What could have been a REALLY great B Flick with a very different plot ended up just another average B Flick. The plot:"Treasure Hunt" is tv's hottest new reality based show-$10 million dollars is buried on a remote island and it's between 8 contestants to find it and bring it home.(I can hear the idea being pitched now to a major tv studio to actually go through with this) Rogue theives have infiltrated the island and are also looking for the hidden cash but wait another disaster has beset these islanders: a violent tropical storm is heading towards them. Sounds good right? The Bad: Well the opening car chase scene is STOLEN from "Last Action Hero" it is the original scene but edited with Treat Williams in place of Arnold! (Look for the Slater 1 license plate on the car!) Even when the "house" where a hostage is held up blows up (STOLEN from Last Action Hero) it reeks of being from another movie.Didn't the director trust his production company or are B flicks that tight on a budget due to the economy? I thought I could overlook this flaw but alas another scene has a group of ex-Navy Seals flying in by helicopter to the island. This was lifted right from Predator! The somewhat Good:Overall I found it to be entertaining just to find the "borrowed" scenes from better action movies. I was disappointed in Michael Dudikoff playing a bad guy. (First Olivier Gruner in Extreme Honor and now Dudikoff for shame!) Its bad when B actors are playing bad guys instead of the usual "good guy" we see them play in countless other movies. What could have been will probably be when a Big Budget Movie Co. remakes this plot and releases it to a national audience. Bottom Line:Check it out just for a good laugh then check out the better produced movies they borrowed from.

Comedy 'Force!'
...Treat Williams sported a brown leather jacket, red shirt, blue jeans i.e. Jack Slater's wardrobe and his name was Jack, right? The first ten minutes of the movie will leave you disgusted and you'll probably shut it off immediately. But, the main reason to watch "Gale Force" is because of Michael Dudikoff. The American Ninja plays a bad guy for once and he takes care of business. Basically this movie makes fun of reality television shows especially "Survivor." "Treasure Hunt" has brought in a group of people to search for a pot full of ten million dollars. But, a group of pirates (ex-Navy Seals) are scavenging around the island taking down the contestants. That's enough plot. Too much thinking. Jerad (Dudikoff) asks the host, "You think we're ready for primetime?" and then surprises him with a blast! I was amazed to have seen clips of the helicopters flying around from "Predator" in this movie... This movie is horrible, but it can make anybody laugh. A lightning bolt struck two people at the same time, yes! Old Man Withers still has some fight in him. Way too windy for me, the winds looked pretty windy. Oh well, like I said comedy!

Venomous
Released in VHS Tape by Fox Home Entertainme (22 January, 2002)
MPAA Rating: PG-13 (Parental Guidance Suggested)
Director: Fred Olen Ray

Scary not really !?
well i really wasn't expecting much , definely a D- movie good in spots but never a great one at that . the effects are cool in places , but if you're looking for a real horror movie then go somewhere else the actress that plays the doctor so much more capable of better roles then this sorry one, i wish they would have spend more time on it,starts off cool then loses steam.

P.S. if you just want to see snakes moving around then rent it.

A partial clone of the movie "outbreak" with snakes instead!
If you've seen the 1995 movie "Outbreak" this movie will seem very similar to you. Instead a cute little monkey spreading the virus, we get snakes instead. The film's main star Treat Williams plays a doctor in small town that is going though a number of snake bites. What Treat Williams does not know is these are government bred snakes which escaped from a top sceret government lab in the mid-1990. To add to this mess Willaims character is going though some marial problems.

The miltary eventually seals off the town and wants to blow it up(along with the people not sick). But Treat Williams saves the day. If you've seen "Outbreak" you've seen this movie before!

The DVD is is widescreen and has a trailer and scene selection . this movie was a little bit better than Treat Williams last movie with Fox "Extreme Limits". It is rated PG-13 for swearing, violence and some hospital scenes.

Rent this movie first before you buy it! If you are a fan of Treat Williams you might like this movie!

Not bad at all !
Sure, it is very similar to Wolfgang Petersen's Outbreak, about deadly virus carried by rattlesnakes. But the stars, Treat Williams and Mary Page Keller make this movie fairly entertaining. Director Fred Olen ray provides a great audio commentary throughout the movie that is very informative and entertaining. The DVD itself is OK. Sharp and clear picture and quite good Dolby 5.1. Too bad, Fox charges way too high for this B movie DVD but it worths at least a rental.

Deadly Matrimony
Released in VHS Tape by Anchor Bay Entertainment (07 January, 1997)
MPAA Rating: Unrated
Director: John Korty
Average review score:

Painfully Stupid
I caught this movie DEADLY MATRIMONY on the worst channel on cable television, you guessed it, the Lifetime channel! To be brief, it is overly melodramatic, poorly acted, and a pain in the gulliver to watch.( A CLOCKWORK ORANGE referance )
The only good part about it( spoilers, wait, it can't be a spoiler anyway because no one in the future will ever see this weak, pathetic excuse for a movie, and if they do I pity them )was the part where Treat Williams kills his wife with a poker. Wait, before you think, "what a sick and twisted misfit excuse for a human being", I think that is the only good scene not for its violence, but because it suprised me. I had no idea she would die right then, I thought she would learn how to fight and then kill him like so many other bad drama films like the highly atrocious, ENOUGH with Jennifer Lopez( ouch! ). And this is one of the only movies I saw that the geek gets the girl.
Oh, and did I mention that Treat Williams ... in this movie.

A good film
This is a good movie about a brave cop. Brian Dennehy is terrific. And I think that the movie is fair to Alan Masters -- after all, he was convicted, along with two others. The stories in the movie are also in a couple of books about the case!

Deadly Matrimony
I thought the movie was very good. I find it hard to believe he's not guilty since there were others convicted also. I think it showed a lot of courage of Jack Reed.

Journey to the Center of the Earth
Released in VHS Tape by Hallmark Home Entertainment (11 April, 2000)
MPAA Rating: Unrated
Director: George Miller

Pure Schlock or Please Come Back James Mason, James Mason
The only thing this movie has going for it are the special effects, after that forget it. In the original, which had surprisingly good special effects, we have the more important element of characterization and a great storyline, all true to Jules Verne's vision. Add to that a terrific cast with the always great James Mason in the lead, and you have all the makings for a great film.

In THIS schlock of a film we have cardboard characters that only make you plead for them to wind up in the jaws of a dinosaur. (Sigh) They just don't make em like they used to.

James Mason we need you!

Where is the original version in DVD
This movie was OK,.... But of all the trashie movies put to DVD... Why can't we get a classic like the 1959 Journy to the center of the earth put on DVD. I would buy it right away, like now if I could. Oh well,... I'll just keep coming back and checking every 6 months or so. At least they got the Time machine on DVD. NO DVD COLLECTION WOULD BE COMPLETE WITHOUT BOTH OF THEM!!!

A kid movie for the whole family
This adaption of Jules Verne's classic strays a lot but I found it rather enjoyable. I first saw it on TV when it was a two-parter and only caught the ending of the first part. I have always liked Treat Williams and the actor who plays the Scotsman, McNiff, whom I've seen in the Patrick Stewart version of Moby Dick. I picked the video up at Hollywood video for a reasonable price and was amazed at how much I missed on TV. The best part, in my opinion, was the Boston bare-kuckle boxing match in the very beginning. I also liked the blue forest and the rival tribes. This movie, which is intended for youngsters, can be enjoyed by everyone. But a word to parents, though: some of the tribe's ritual dancing is a bit questionable for younger viewers.Overall a pleasant evening-at-home-with-the-kids film.

rips off scences from other major movies
This movie steals scences from the movie cliffhanger (yes their scences) This is a watch before you buy movie. this movie is just not original. sorry, but this movie is copyright crook.

Pathetic movie feels like a made for TV movie! Rent it first
This movie literally borrows scenes from many action movie. It is full of plot holes...The story is OK. The DVD has OK amount of features. Rent this pathetic movie first(unless you like Treat Williams or B grade action movies!). I would go into details about the many plot holes but that would ruin it for other readers/viewers. Just be sure you rent this movie first before you buy it!

Worth Watching Once for the Cut and Paste from good movies!
For and "original work" how could the producers and director hope to get away with the "Cliffhanger", "Narrow Margin" and "A Long Kiss Goodnight" cut and paste scenes. These are not copies, these are the actual scenes from the movies, cut and pasted into this one. My son about fell out of his chair as we watched the plane and helicopter sequences, the chases and train sequenses, the semi truck sequences and climactic explosion that we had seen from other movies. He wanted to know if those actors got royalties off of this movie, especially Craig Berko who was clearly seen but not credited.

That aside, there were many cliche moments, some good lines, and some very bad dialog. But it was worth watching, especially with someone who does not know (or even one who does but hasn't yet seen it) about the cut and paste because it makes for a hilarious (absolutely unintended by the makers, I'm sure) movie experience and a great conversation after the movie among friends. I have never had such an experience before...

Men's Club
Released in VHS Tape by Paramount Studios (21 June, 1988)
MPAA Rating: R (Restricted)
Director: Peter Medak
Starring: David Dukes and Richard Jordan
Average review score:

Missed opportunity
Rarely do you get a cast this loaded with talent. I mean everyone is top-drawer. Unfortunately, they've been tossed into the bottom drawer with the dirty underwear. A meandering, inexplicable disappointment, and a bore to boot.

a film all about women
Director Peter Medak's adaptation of the Leonard Michaels novel hovers midway between an all male confessional and a testosterone-soaked bull session, and perhaps it's this nebulous stance that has disappointed so many. Michaels also did the screenplay, though it is said that the visit to a brothel - The House of Affection- which comprises the second half is new. The plot centres on a group of 7 men in San Francisco, in various stages of marriage, meeting. We don't expect consciousness-raising, as we would of women, since men don't tend to be as insightful, simply the telling of stories. It's tribal, culminating in a group howling to the moon, but not barbaric in spite of the drinking and pot. We do get the de rigueur anti-gay joke but it passes relatively painlessly. Medak may include the raiding of a frig, full for a wife's next day women's club meeting, and knife throwing, but these men are still presented as reasonable and intelligent. Their hang-dog reaction to the appearance of Stockard Channing as the wife tells us that. The anecdotes we hear are free of malice, which makes the sojourn to the brothel the more interesting, since what expires is more than just about getting laid. It's more practice after the meeting's theory. The men talk of their hunger for "The Other Woman", cleverly realised by the concept of the prostitutes, whose seeming disempowerment gives way once the lovemaking is over. The climactic faux wedding scene and conclusion may be hard to read and have elements of fantasy eg the brothel being so exclusive that is has no other clients, but it also highlights the need for simple pleasures that can ease the battle of the sexes. It's unusual to see a male ensemble, and in a large group naturally some performers emerge as stronger than others, unless the material is like the film of the play That Champion Season, where the writer gives each character an aria. Here, Craig Wasson in particular is wallpaper, though he has an amusing resistance to his seductress, and Frank Langella has just as little, though he gets to look bacchanalian in Devil makeup. Treat Williams delivers a speech about a former girlfriend who gets between his food and his mouth, Richard Jordan as the houseguest is goofy bleeding from the head after Channing hits him with a frypan, and Harvey Keitel reveals a sentimental soul under a stud exterior. Keitel is responsible for the brothel wedding and is the actor most exposed as an object. It's hard to believe Roy Scheider as a great womaniser, in spite of the scene where he mounts his unconscious wife. He's more surprising when he dances to a jazz version of When the Saints Come Marching In. However the film inexplicably belongs to David Dukes, an actor who otherwise has been annoyingly mannered and lightweight. Here he is a revelation. The women make less of an impression, even with Jennifer Jason Leigh as one of the prostitutes. Ann Wedgeworth's madam carrying a doll gets a payoff, and I was actually sorry not to see more made of her anaylsis of Scheider, particularly as they circle each other near the end.

Critical Mass
Released in VHS Tape by Artisan (Fox Video) (21 January, 2003)
MPAA Rating: R (Restricted)
Director: Fred Olen Ray
Average review score:

A Joke
"Critical Mass" is so bad that it is actually enjoyable. There are so many holes in this plot that one wonders if there was actually a director assigned to the project. The basic plot centers around terrorists who steal nuclear material to make a bomb and then take over a nuclear power facility to blow it up. Amid numerous explosions and even a nice truck/bus chase in the high desert are enough plot holes to keep most movie audiences in hysterics. My favorite was in the Pentagon where top military brass are discussing the terrorist. The camera does a closeup of the dossier showing the actor's picture playing the terrorist. The next line is, "The terrorist, whose face is unknown..." Why tell us his face is unknown just after showing us his face? We had to replay this moment and then pause the DVD so my wife could stop laughing. Her favorite moment was when the terrorists are stealing the nuclear material and are walking around the facility. The leader has a little piece of notepaper which he keeps looking at about 7 times, as if he couldn't find his way up the stairs without looking at his paper. I wondered if maybe he had his lines printed there. Then you've got Andrew Prine playing a pompous state senator who is shooting an election commercial at the power plant when the terrorists attack. Prine and his lovely press secretary run for the door with security guard Treat Williams while the rest of the camera crew and reporters stand there allowing themselves to be shot. As the terrorists are running around the facility with automatic weapons looking for the them, Prine starts shouting at Williams in full voice. This happens repeatedly with the terrorists just inches away, but of course the shouting never attracts them. Also, when the bad guys get shot, none of the good guys picks up their weapons. Another moment is when Williams has captured and tied up a terrorist and sticks the Senator's tie in his mouth. Most people would just be able to take their tongue and push the tie out of their mouth and call for help; but this terrorist must sit there for 15 minutes until his buddy rescues him. You may enjoy replaying the moment where Andrew Prine steps on the explosive and is hurled through the air with a ball of fire. Most people would be burned or maimed, but Prine just winds up dead with a bit of fake blood on his nose. This is one of those movies where the plot is so bad that you can enjoy it as one of the most wonderfully incompetent films you're likely to run across. Another thing I like about the DVD is the special features. The only special feature is some previews of other films I never heard of. When you push it to watch the previews, it starts playing "Critical Mass" again. Have a laugh, you won't do much else with this clinker! Taxi!
